So I tried out the pumpkin cheesecake bars last night. I tasted them just now. WOW. Can I just say, WOW!??? Okay, you should try that recipe. Tonight.
I also tried the pecan squares. Not so impressed. I thought they’d be more like pecan pie in bars, but there is a lot of crust and a lot of pecan and not so much gooey filling. I’m still serving them, but they’re not my favorite.
Now for the outrageous brownies. Yet again, a new recipe. I have an old stand-by that I use all the time that are great. But I’ve been wanting to give these a whirl. So last night I whipped up a batch.
Karlanlee, do you find these to have a slightly bitter taste?? Almost like they’re burned? I don’t think I overcooked them, and I did melt the chocolate carefully in a double boiler, so I don’t know how I would have burned them. I think maybe it’s the flavor of the coffee that is in them that I was tasting.
I made a mistake and melted all the chocolate instead of saving 12 oz to stir in at the end, so I’m not sure what that did to the intended consistency. They didn’t taste quite as bitter this morning when they were cold as they did last night when they were warm. They are definitely rich and moist. I sent most of them with Hubby to work, and they were gone by 11:30. So they must not be that bad.
I have to decide which to make for tomorrow night. These are very expensive to make, so I might be reverting back to the tried and true.
I did find a travel gift. This gift sort of makes its way around during the game, and whoever has it at the end of the night gets to take it home. It’s always a big competition to try and end up with it, and there is usually quite a commotion when the winner opens it. So I wanted something good.
I got the Large Cream Rectangular Baker from this collection and the curry dish towel. I hope it goes over well. Most of my neighbors don’t cook, but I thought the baking dish would be great for entertaining. You can throw almost any warm dip-type thing in it. It took all my self-control not to buy one for myself.
There, I think I answered all your questions.
As for the rest of it, they are tried-and-true recipes, so I don’t anticipate any further issues. I need to make sure I have serving dishes for everything. I have all my paper products. I think I’m set! YAY!

The first time I tasted the Outrageous Brownies, it did have a bitter taste. But now that I’ve made it a lot, I don’t taste that anymore. One thing that made a difference for me was making sure I didn’t overcook it. And making sure my pan was big enough. You might try leaving out the coffee next time and see what that does. I’ve made it both ways. They are definitely more of a dark chocolate taste than say your average Duncan Hines brownie. They taste similar to the Baker’s Chocolate recipe in my opinion. One thing I know, it makes a boatload of brownies!
THANKS! I’m used to homemade brownies, but my other recipe is not as chocolatey. I used the right sized pan. I think I will make them again tonight and cut the coffee in half. After having another one this afternoon, I don’t taste the “burned” taste at all. I rather like the richness. I’ll be sure not to melt the chocolate chips into them either. I think that will make a big difference.
um, I’m going to need to make the pumpkin cheesecake bars SOON!! yum.
I just printed out all the recipes…and I plan to make them for the kids school and the church parties next week. Thanks!
