So I was sitting at my computer happily reading blogs at about 8:45 last night. I clicked over to Barb’s site and started reading this post of hers, nodding my head approvingly and thinking what a delightful lady she is, and then I saw this:
Now I’m going back to my comfortable chair to finish reading this Dean
Koontz book in plenty of time to watch Survivor tonight because I’m all
about quality TV.
WHAAAAAAAA!!??
Scrreeeeeeeech! Stop the presses!
Survivor is on tonight!!?? What time is it!? Crap! It’s 8:45. Hurry, get to the TV, what channel is Survivor on? Dang! DANG! They’re at tribal council! I missed the first show of the Fans Vs. Favorites season. HOW did this happen!? I can’t believe you guys let me down. HOW did I not know about this? I mean, I knew about the Fans Vs. Favorites show, but I had no idea it was starting TONIGHT!!!!!!!
I hate missing the first show of a new season, but I guess I can find a recap online. At least my DVR is set up to record from now on.
*deep breath*
Clearly I need to get a life.
So here we are with more Q&A.
Jen asks: How do you get your housework done all day? Do you
have a system or schedule or just wing it? Oh And do you cook every
night?
Um, Jen. You are making quite a large assumption here. When did I ever say that I get my housework done?
Seriously, I’m not a great housekeeper. I fly by the seat of my
pants in just about every aspect of my life, housework included. I
love a clean house, but frankly, I don’t love it enough to achieve it
on a consistent basis. When we are going to have company, I scurry
around and make it gorgeous, but most of the time it is far from
perfect.
I do cook most nights. But I use the term "cook" loosely. We don’t
eat out much at all. We do takeout about once a week, and there is
always a Freschetta pizza in the fridge for those nights that I get
caught without anything better planned. Sometimes we throw pancakes
together. I cook a "nice meal" probably 3 or 4 times a week.
Along those lines, southernfriedgirl asks: What is the dinner you go to in a pinch when you need to actually cook something but it’s last minute or you are tired, etc?
Pancakes. They’re always a hit, and I usually have the ingredients in the house.
Julie asks: What
do you think about calendars – electronic or written? I have a Treo
which I sync with Outlook and a Palm Software program called KeySuite.
I’ve color coded everyone in the family and have my calendar, my to do
list and all my contacts with me all the time. I often tell people I’m
allergic to paper. ![]()
When we get REALLY busy, I do print the calendar and post it on the
fridge.
I have recently switched to an electronic calendar as well. I don’t miss shuffling my paper calendar from place to place and then wasting an hour of my day searching for it when I need to write something down. But I find that I often forget to check my electronic calendar (which is on my computer; I do not have a palm) and then miss important events from time to time. I guess you could say I’m still adjusting. It’s only been six months. It takes me a while.
Heidi asks: What
were your dreams when you were growing up (both little kid and older
kid) and do you think you ever pursued those dreams? And based on that,
what guidance would you give your kids for following their dreams?
I had two dreams when I was growing up — to be an elementary school teacher, and to get married and live happily ever after. At this point, as corny as it may sound, I can honestly say that I’m living out my childhood dreams.
As for my children, I will tell them what my mother always told me. You get your education, and then you can choose to do what you want with it. But college comes first. Beyond that, I will encourage my kids that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. My mom always told me that, and I believed it. Granted, I didn’t choose an extraordinary path in life, but I also didn’t settle for anything less than what I wanted. I don’t want my kids to ever settle for less than what they deserve.
With that in mind, I know I have a couple single readers out there. I know of one who desperately does not want to be single. And there may be others who read but I don’t know their story. If that applies, I want to say this to any of you. DO NOT SETTLE. Trust God and His perfect timing, but don’t settle. You’re worth it.
Keep the questions coming! I will do at least one more round before I wrap it up.

I can’t believe I missed Survivor. I had no idea. And then I read the comments, so now I know Johnny F. went home. I need to find a recap. I’m just stunned I missed it.
Nice post. I like how you often quote your Mom, she’s a wise lady! I wonder if J ever quotes me…….NOT! lol!
Thanks for the answer. I think that is a great way to approach parenting your children.
I also know several ladies who are desperate to be married. It is hard to know what to say to them when I got married very young after not even wanting to get married, but I think you are right.
We eat pancakes for dinner too. Yum!
DO NOT SETTLE! Great advice. A lifetime of “settling” is simply NOT the best plan. I married 2 days before turning 30…I’d like to say that I was waiting on God’s timing, but I didn’t know Him then…I just knew enough to know that I needed to marry someone whose company I would enjoy forever. My sister married at 40…and is gloriously happy. You can accomplish MUCH during those single years that you will not be able to do once you’re married. Get busy!
Hmmm, I’m thinking maybe pancakes tonight!
I found out it was Survivor night from Barb’s too. But luckily for me, the day before!
I would’ve hated to have missed it too but I can honestly say it wasn’t spectacular by any means. And I’m so glad Johnny Fairplay went home! (PS. I hope you saw that part.)
Amen, dcr! I dated for 17 years, and when I look back, I’m so thankful I didn’t marry any of them. I was 33 when I got married and I needed to be 33. Had a lot of growing up to do, and I had to learn to live on my own first. I was des.per.ate to be married, but I just wasn’t ready.
And that stuff about he’ll come when you’re not looking? Please. I was totally looking and there came Marvin Gardensalad.
Thanks for the answer! I understand what you’re saying about keeping up with the computer calendar. If mine didn’t sync to a hand held (I just like Palm), my system wouldn’t work for me AT ALL.
I carried a phone AND a Palm Pilot for years and finally, two years ago, the Palm phones started looking good. Now I’m a Treo Girl. The husband is addicted to his “crack”berry.
Thanks again! I’ll be watching for photos of the completed office!
Do not settle. That is a great piece of advice to end this post with. Sometimes I think I’ve done way too much of that in various areas of my life and I definitely want my kids to go for it. Sounds like your mom was a great encourager!
I can’t believe you missed the first survivor. The beauty of satelite tv, at least in Canada, is that we have eastern times and western on the big main channels so if I missed it at 6 p.m. I can see it or record it at 9 p.m. How did I ever survive without that? ;v)
I have to say that for someone who says they don’t keep their house clean, you certainly know how to pick up fast because it always looks good to me! Let me know next time you miss Survivor. We won’t delete it from recording.
I like your Q&A posts. They have been very informative, and it’s nice to get to know the blogger behind the blog.
How many seasons of Survivor have there been? I ask this, because I feel like Survivor has been going on for half of my life…
DANG. IT. Last night, I actually thought, “It’s Thursday, but no Survivor yet.” I can’t believe we missed the first episode!
Whimper.
I really enjoyed this….I wing housework too. But I do have days during the week that the bathrooms , the sheets and laundry get done…I know I’m crazy. Then I have days I dont do anything…but like you I do cook almost every night…we did take out last night only because I had a small thing of plurasy going on…..so….some nights are just not made for me and the kitchen. Thank God for Take Out.
Thank you.
You didn’t miss much on Survivor. It was so totally weird I felt like it was rigged. And I love Survivor!
