- Joy to the World — Jewel (This is my newest favorite. I can’t get enough of this one!!)
- The Magnificat/Prelude of Faith/Holy is his Name — John Michael Talbot (An old favorite)
- O Holy Night – Josh Groban (A new favorite)
- Christmas Canon — Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Everyone knows this one, but it still gives me chills every time.)
- Joseph’s Song — Michael Card (I particularly like the words to this song.)
- O Holy Night — Martina McBride (The lungs on this girl, I’ve never heard the like of it!)
- Hark the Herald Angels Sing – Nat King Cole (Great traditional carol)
- Season to Rejoice — Sheila Walsh (Another old favorite)
- Little Drummer Boy — MercyMe (Another new favorite.)
- Santa Claus Is Coming To Town — Bruce Springsteen (For fun. And you didn’t seriously think I could have a top ten music list without Bruce, did you? Silly Internets!)
(Yes, I am well aware that I have two versions of O Holy Night on my list. I had three on there at one point. I think it’s safe to say it’s my very favorite Christmas song.)
Wanna do your own? Let me know if you do, and I’ll stop by. Or if you don’t want to do a whole post, just give me a few suggestions in the comments. I need some new songs for my Christmas playlist. I haven’t added any this year.

I LOVE o Holy Night, my favorite, too. I also love “I Am You Are” by the Martins (hard to find, but an INCREDIBLE song and “Hand of Sweet Release” by the Gaither vocal Band. Trust me, I don’t only listen to southern gospel, but these two songs are powerful! I’ll try to do a favorite list today!
Mine are up!

O Holy Night is my favorite too! I chuckled when I saw you had 2 on your list, I would have done the same
O Holy Night is great… check out Sara Groves’ new version. My list is up also… http://lifewithcourt.wordpress.com!
My all time favorite two songs that I will drive my poor husband nuts with the whole of December are, “Last Christmas” by Wham and “The War is over” by John Lennon. I know, not very sophisticated but they are so Christmassy. Love them…but yeah, Holy Night is really pretty too.
O Holy Night is my favorite too. I actually really like the Barlow Girls version, which is not so traditional. Martina and Josh are great though. Jewel’s Christmas album is surprisingly good, I’ve had it for years. I just got Celine Dion’s new one and it’s quite good, and I’m not a big fan of hers. This year though I think my favorite is called Here With Us by Joy Williams. Check it out, I think you’d like it.
My favorite is ‘Breath of Heaven’ by Amy Grant. I love love love that song. A close second is ‘O Holy Night’ by Martina McBride. That’s my husband’s favorite song- he could listen to it all day every day and never get tired of it.
You’re right about Christmas Canon- that song is so beautiful.
I just love the classic versions of 20th century holiday standards
Mel Torme “Christmas Song”
Bing Crosby “White Christmas”
Judy Garland “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”
For carols, nothing beats being in a choir, singing the versions from the Oxford Christmas Carols and Anthems book of arrangments by David Willcox and John Rutter-the descants on “Hark, The Herald Angels Sing” and “O Come All Ye Faithful” are favorites of mine.
I just found my Jewel holiday CD and have been listening to it lately. I don’t really have a favorite, I love all the Christmas music – especially at Church on Christmas Eve. Warm fuzzies all over.
Beautiful selections! I have to admit that we haven’t been playing much Christmas music around here. For some reason, it seems like it’s still a long way off…but it’s NEXT WEEK!
I gotta go with “Mary Did You Know?” by Kenny Rogers and Wynonna Judd. It used to be “O Holy Night” but this song bumped that one into 2nd.
Someone else already mentioned it, but it won’t stop me. You must go to i Tunes right now and look up “Here With Us” by Joy Williams. And then you will weep. It is truly beautiful. “O Holy Night” is also one of my favorites. I have both versions you mentioned, and others. I might check out the Casting Crowns album. As if I need more music. I also really love Mercy Me’s version of “Little Drummer Boy” and “We Three Kings.” I could go on, but I’ll stop there.
Oh, and this is not Christmas related, but ‘m sharing anyway. I love the JMT song too. Check out “Great Things” by Matt Maher. It is more of a rock song, but based on the Magnificat. It is a great workout song and just overall good.
nice playlist……….I’m partial to Silver Bells. I think that it’s because I grew up in NYC and Silver Bells is one of the only carols that references how magical Christmas time can be in the city. I actually get all weepy when I hear a good version of the song.
I played along!I haven’t heard Jewel’s version. I’ll have to check it out! Thanks for the list!
nutcracker, nutcracker, nutcracker!!!!
Mine are scheduled to appear tomorrow morning! Thanks, that was a lot of fun!
hands down – O Holy Night is my favorite! Its just a beautiful song.
my favorite fun Christmas song is “Baby it’s cold outside”!!!
I had to get in on the musical fun! The top of my top-ten are:
1. Christmas Cannon – Trans-Siberian Orchestra
2. Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song) – Amy Grant (This was #1 until Christmas Cannon came along. LOVE this song!)
3. O Holy Night – Celine Dion
4. All I Want For Christmas Is You- Mariah Carey
I love the Amy Grant Holiday CD
my favorite I just discovered in the last few years……..Ray Charles version of Rudolph – you can hear it on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-3INb4E26k
a family favorite is Bruce Springsteen’s Santa Claus is Coming to Town – every year my parents would BLAST this song from their Bose system as the kids came into their house on Christmas Eve………. hear it here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pauxfOgZe0A
I love Band Aid do they know it’s Christmastime at all…I think I’m the only one on that planet that enjoys that song. AND I love Last Christmas by Wham.
Did you ever hear Paul Schaffer on David Letterman do his impression of Cher singing O Holy Night? Man Polly, quit cryin’, it’s funny.
