I've lived in Texas all of my 31 years, and 28 of those years have been in Austin. Ask about the Ranch! You might not be going to some barn wedding. Most ranches are beautiful and you may be going to a very formal event. Although Ausin is known for being casual, we also know how to glam it up!! I would check, nothing worse than showing up too casual! I would also imagine that there will be flooring, and if you do walk in some grass it won't be all night!
