American Idol Final 36 — Night 3

idol1Yawwwwwn…  This is round 3 of the final 36.

Von Smith — You’re All I Need to Get By: It’s okay, kinda old fashioned.  Not something I’m going to remember.  The judges are eatin’ it up.  Go figure.

Taylor Vaifanua — If I Ain’t Got You: Another old fashioned song.  WHY do they choose these numbers?  She’s adorable and has a great voice, but I’m falling asleep. Awww, she’s crying.

Alex Wagner-Trugman — I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues: I’m thinking this kid is too young for this song.  Oh my, is he GROWLING?  Yeah, I’m confident this kid is too young to sing this song.  Kudos for trying to give it a more upbeat feel, but ummm, no.

Ariana Afsar — The Winner Takes It All: The first Abba song on AI.  Well, at least it’s something new.  Sometimes I think they choose the same 20 songs over and over.  Okay so I was really expecting more than that.  The judges are disappointed too.  Poor thing; she’s adorable.  Don’t expect we”ll be seeing her next week though.

Ju’not Joyner — Hey There Delilah: Great song.  Finally, something MODERN.  He’s really slowing it down and lending his own touch, and I like it but I’m not sure he’s Top 12 material.

Kristen McNamara:  Not bad.  I missed the first 1/3 of her performance.  This chick can sing, but I’m not crazy about the song.  Sick of the old fashioned songs.

Nathaniel Marshall — I Would Do Anything For Love: Love me some Meatloaf.  Hope this guy doesn’t ruin it for me forever.  Omigosh.  I can’t stomach it.  Okay, so you know what, he can actually sing.  I can’t help but feel like I’m in a karaoke bar though.  I love Simon.  “Excruciating.”  “Olivia Newton John headband.”  Kara nailed it — he’d make a great karaoke buddy.  That’s Nate.  American Idol — notsomuch.

Felicia Barton — No One: I like this chick.  Good song choice.  Finally someone tonight who is relevant.  My main criticism is that you don’t really get a sense of her range with this song.  I’d like to see her back next week.

Scott MacIntyre — Mandolin Rain: This guy is SUPER talented.  Top 5.  For sure.  Kara’s right; the imperfections didn’t matter because his passion is undeniable.  I can’t wait to see him with the piano.

Kendall Beard — This One’s For the Girls: Karaoke.  That is all.

Jorge Nunez — Don’t Let the Sun Go Down: I anticipate a yawner.  While I love Elton John, he’s hard to remake into something relevant and memorable.  Well, I may have to eat my words.  This guy can sing, that’s for sure, but there’s nothing original here.  “When I get emotional I can barely think in English.”  So cute.  I’m conflicted on him.  I’d like to see what he’ll do next time.

Lil Rounds: I’m not familiar with the original; it’s not my kinda music.  But she deserves to be in the Top 12, no question.  Simon sums it up with one word — brilliant.  Oh no, Paula’s being punny.  Spare us.

So my top 3 picks this week are…  Lil Rounds, Scott MacIntyre, Felicia Bargon.  With notable mentions to Jorge and Kristen.

I broke down and am watching AI for the first time this season, so I can actually participate in these discussions.

I don’t like Scott MacIntyre as much as everyone else does, and I especially dislike that song. Why would he pick that? Yuck.

I liked the girls this round. I agree with Lil Rounds and Felicia Bargon, and I’d choose either Kristen McNamara or Kendall Beard for the 3rd slot.

I am probably wrong on all 3 – I have no experience with these predictions!

  2. I discovered your blog a couple of weeks ago while trying to sneak a peek at the results show. I’m on the West Coast and prefer not to sit through it if I don’t have to. I do take the time to watch the performance shows, however. Usually before I read your recaps of those episodes.

I have to say, your recaps are by far my favorite and I follow a couple of other blogs that post them each night. But that could be because I agree with your assessment of the performances most of the time. :-)

  3. I rolled my eyes at the same ‘punny’ comment. Oh please!

My faves: Ju’not Joyner, Scott McIntyre, Jorje Nunez, Lil Rounds (hmmm … that’s 4).

I actaully had to mute my TV several times last night……no impressed at ALL – we didn’t even vote.

  5. Some notes:

    * I’m so over Paula. I loved her when she was Forever [My] Girl, but AI Paula is annoying. We have Kara now; we don’t need Paula anymore.
    * I think that Scott McIntyre is amazing for overcoming challenges, and he totally made me cry last night. But I don’t think he is Top 12 material. Sorry!
    * I really liked Kristen McNamara. Liked the song, liked her performance, like her non-purple hair.
    * Nathaniel is so irritating, but his performance was entertaining. And Alex – oh, Alex – he cracked me up. And then when he realized that things didn’t go as he’d planned, I just wanted to cry and hug the poor kid!

  6. We agree on most of this!

I was all set to watch last night and my son had a meltdown over his homework. Dant it! I did slip in a tape though (I know, can you believe I don’t have a DVR?) anyway I enjoyed your rundown. I was hoping Scott would do well. I hope I can find time today to watch it.

  8. Bonnie says:

That should have read “Dang It”

  9. Elaine says:

I pretty much agree with you. I really hope the guy who sang the Meatloaf song doesn’t make it through. Too many other good people last night. Well except for Alex, he was just BAD!

  10. I was BORED out of my SKULL except for Lil. Scott has talent, but he still bored me that night. I’m ready to be blown away tonight…someone please blow me away tonight!
