And it’s… SHOWTIME!
Hi Paula. You look nice in straight hair. You should definitely keep it.
But Ryan, Dear. You are really NOT funny at all. Please stick to the script. Thankyouverymuch.
It is my humble opinion that group numbers should be banned forever and ever amen. Does anyone disagree? I’ve never known anyone who likes them. WHAT is the point? Honestly?
Lovin’ the glimpse behind the scenes after last week’s Results Show. I’ve never really thought about what happens after the show.
After some chit-chat, we get down to business. Danny and Lil are safe. Anoop is safe.
Allison and Michael are asked to stand up. I’m predicting Michael is brought down front. Paula predicts Allison.
And she’s right.
Alrightythen. I wasn’t expecting that. I’ll be SO annoyed if Allison goes home this week.
AHA! Michael is also in the bottom three. Sneaky… So I was only half wrong.
Mmmm…. Dunkin’ Donuts.
After a considerable commercial break, we’re back.
Scott is safe. Megan is safe. Even though she wasn’t my favorite last night, I do think she deserves a Get Out of Jail Free Card just for performing with the flu.
Matt is also safe.
And Kris is safe.
So that leaves Alexis and Adam. Alexis reminds me of a doll in a toy store; she’s so teensy.
Both Adam and Alexis stand while the judges discuss their fate. Simon stands by his statement from last night that Adam’s performance was indulgent rubbish. He punctuates that by calling it dreadful.
Alexis joins Allison and Michael center stage in the unfortunate bottom 3 spots.
Allison is sent back to safety, THANK GOODNESS, while Alexis and Michael are left to stew while we are subjected to another commercial break.
We get a little trip down memory lane with Carrie Underwood. It really is amazing how far she has come. I remember her initial audition, although I confess I was rooting for Bo Bice that season. Does anyone remember how out of tune she was in that finale? Okay, I’m over it. Really. And no one can deny her success. Plus she’s just darling.
So Carrie and Randy Travis take the stage, and WHAT DOES SHE HAVE IN HER HAIR? I don’t get that at all. But anyway.
I really enjoyed that performance. I love cheesy duets. I just eat ‘em right up.
Meanwhile Michael and Alexis both look like they’re gonna puke. And the wait isn’t over yet because they must endure yet another commercial break.
And after a nationwide vote… Oh wait. That’s Ryan’s line.
So yeah. Michael is safe and Alexis will go home unless she wins the judges over with another performance of Jolene. Awwww, say it ain’t so!!!!! I’d rather see Scott or Michael or even Anoop go home tonight. Not Alexis.
The judges SAY they are considering using their veto or whatever they call it, so they sit in a huddle and whisper throughout her entire performance, which is so obnoxious but no one asked me, did they?
I have to say that her performance is 100% improved over last night, proving it was a good song choice; she just didn’t bring it last night.
Simon tells her it was good but not good enough, and they send her on their way. Did anyone really think they were going to use their veto this early in the season? Seems like a ploy for drama to me. But then, I don’t know why I would expect any less. This IS American Idol, after all.
And that’s a wrap! Tune in next WEDNESDAY night when the top 10 perfrom Motown. Ooops, there I go channeling Ryan again. But really, it is WEDNESDAY b/c of the presidential address. I’m doing my best not to roll my eyes. Can the man at least speak on a DIFFERENT night? First March Madness preempts Survivor, and now this. (My husband is wishing I had never discovered the internet right about now.) Okay, over and out.

I was SHOCKED that Allison was in the bottom 3! I thought she did great last night!
I laughed when I saw Allison showing shock she was in the bottom 3. I like her, but that seemed a bit prideful.
I thought Alexis did well; kinda sad to see her go. Performance wise I was almost eying up Scott to at least be in the bottom 3.
I am SO bummed Alexis is going home before Michael or Scott. Or Adam after that extremely bizarre performance …he should have at least been in the bottom 3 as punishment for that atrocity. And I still really don’t care for the hippy shake girl with the quirky voice.
Alexis would have been a much more interesting addition to the Top 10 tour than say Michael or Scott…the whole thing is still very male voice dominated at this point. I loved her sound and had her pegged to be in the Final 3. Bummer.
I called it! At least I called the bottom 2. I really thought Michael would be going home even though I like him. I do agree that the group numbers are just dreadful. After seeing those, who really wants to go see the summer tour??? And Miss Hip-Twisting Weird Voice girl needs to be the next to go!
I also loved Alexis and had her pegged for Final 3. However, I saw some pride and entitlement in her tonight that I hadn’t sensed heretofore. Maybe the judges caught that, too? I don’t know.
She seemed really put out when Randy messed up her name and called her Allison. I also thought she was 100% improved over last night, but in finding her grit and dirtiness, she left her niceness behind.
She was really the only one I could determine deserved to go home after last night. I thought they all did quite well & am so impressed with this season.
I watched until about the last 20 minutes, I had to get the boys ready for bed wo I was looking forward to your update this morning.
It seems like they could do something to improve the gruop numbers.. you are right, they don’t work.
I was dissapointed to see Alexis go although I doubt she would have made it much longer. I was kind of hoping Allison would go. I just haven’t been a fan of hers.
My favorite at this point is probably Danny.. I just like his personality. My son likes Anoop..he did do well I thought this week but probably not going to make it too much longer.
Did you say AI will be on Wednesday next week?
Yes … Paula’s hair is lovely straightened.
Seriously … what was the funeral-thing in Carrie’s hair?
I agree with Simon – Adam’s performance was creepy.
I liked Alexis but I didn’t think she’d be in the top 5 anyway.
(I LOVE your running commentary-style writing for this show. Very fun to read
)
Nicki – Thanks! I just try to envision the entire World Wide Web sitting next to me on the couch. It gets a bit crowded sometimes, but I’ve never been one to turn down a party – virtual or otherwise.
First of all, please just get rid of those horrible group numbers. Please, just spare us AI!
Besides that, I though Allison seemed a little to shocked that she was picked..I didn’t like that.I though for sure Alexis would stay but at the same time she really butchered “Joline” so she deserved to be sent home.
I agree! it should have been Michael (or Scott) not Alexis!!! and did you see how bothered she was when Randy called her by the wrong name?
You know what’s so funny about the opening group song???? it’s so “cruise ship” like – the thing they criticize the contestants for being like??? I NEVER like those songs either – but the Ford commercials are usually good!!

Yes, I agree that Allison seemed shocked, which is tacky. And yet, I don’t think she deserved to be in the bottom 3 and she’s only gotten rave reviews from the judges, so perhaps she was a bit taken by surprise. (Except that Paula actually picked Allison over Michal for bottom 3 — which I found incredibly odd. But then, it’s Paula, so…)
The other thing about Allison, she’s just 16, so I try to cut her some slack for not hiding her emotions as she should have.
Way to wrap it up in a nice package for us, Jolene. Oops, sorry – Jo-Lynne. Sorry, I couldn’t help myself. I don’t think it was Alexis’ time to go, but she does get the “single mom struggling” sympathy vote from me so I may be biased. I can’t stand Scott or Anoop, they could go. And Michael, whom I love, should have done a different song, so I wasn’t surprised to see him in the bottom three. I do love Allison, so I’m playing along with you and chalking up her pridefulness to youth! And because I know you want to know, my AI snack of the evening was Riesling and popcorn!
Oh my gosh, You make me laugh. We are totally on the same page, right down to the Carrie’s hair bling. Thanks for the update and the chuckles
Oh, the group numbers! Thank goodness I’m usually watching on TiVo (after the kids go to bed) so I can just fast-forward through them. I think they are only on there so the producers can make us watch for a whole hour.
The thing in Carrie’s hair was weird but her dress was cute. I rooted for Bo Bice that year too but she turned out to be the real thing. I didn’t especially like her duet with Randy T., though–their voices didn’t go well together, I thought.
Nice use of Randy Travis, and I agree – group numbers SHOULD be banned forever and ever amen!
Carrie U is lovely and I enjoyed that song very much, but you forgot about Brad Paisley. I heart him.
I didn’t mind that Alexis went, although I would have picked the guy. And yes, Allison’s reaction to being in the bottom three was tacky and someone should tell her so.
