This week the Idol contestants are singing from the top 100 iTunes downloads.
Anoop is singing a song by Usher. I’m officially old. I don’t recognize this, and I don’t feel like I’ve been missing much. That said, this is probably the sort of thing Anoop should be singing. At least his performance is more current and relevant this week — to borrow two of the judges’ favorite words. But I’m not a fan. Turns out the judges aren’t crazy about it either, so maybe it’s not just me.
May I just say for the umpteenth time that I DETEST it when a contestant says that they disagree with the judges. Hello, WHO is the professional here? I would be perfectly happy to see Anoop go home tomorrow night.
Overheard:
daughter: I like Megan because she’s pretty.
son: Megan’s not THAT pretty with all of those tattoos.
daughter: Well, her HAIR is pretty.

Megan Joy is singing is singing Turn The Lights Down Low. I’m trying to like her. I really am. But I just can’t. The song is doing nothing for me. And the outfit is atrocious. Kara said her voice was getting irritating “for the first time” — Um, no, NOT the first time.
Danny is singing What Hurts the Most by Rascal Flats. I’m liking it, but I keep waiting for him to hold one of those big notes really loooooong but he never did. I like the emotion he put into it and the dynamics, but I can’t say that I was crazy about the song. It’s almost like it needed to be longer, which isn’t a bad thing. He’s getting major props from the judges. Way to go, Danny-boy! I was beginning to wonder if he had hit a glass ceiling, but he’s definitely still got a lot of fight left in him.
Allison is singing Don’t Speak. I love her, and she’s rocking it, and yet I’m waiting for her to break away from the original. Alright, she sort of did her own thing at the end. I still love her, but I’m afraid this wasn’t her best. Randy doesn’t get the ensemble. I don’t think I’ve ever heard Randy comment on a contestant’s attire.
Scott MacIntyre is singing Billy Joel. This is a good song choice for him, and I like how he changed it up a bit. It’s a smart performance, but it just proves to me that he really doesn’t have the chops to be a contender for the finals. Still, it should buy him another week.
Matt is singing You Found Me by The Fray. This is a different sound for him. I didn’t think it was as bad as the judges said it was but perhaps that’s because I really like that song. I think Matt definitely has a bit of an identity crisis but I also think he’s major talented and I hope he doesn’t go home tomorrow night.
Lil needs to have a wow night. She hasn’t performed up to her potential in weeks. Finally. Lil is in the house. Or not. Ummmm. She got a bit shouty there for a second, but she pulled back at the end and finished up nicely. I agree that it was too old-fashioned. Sigh… I was hoping for a WOW performance, and that wasn’t quite there.
Adam is NOT singing Play That Funky Music White Boy. Is he TRYING to be the ultimate wedding singer or what? Okay, true confessions: I know it’s corny, but I LOVE this song. And I officially love Adam. Somehow he made that original. I wish I had this show on my DVR so I could replay that. My allegiance has officially shifted. Sorry, Danny. I still think you’re awesome and I’ll definitely download your music, but I’m voting for Adam to take home the idol. He’s just in a different league.
Kris is wrapping up the night with Ain’t No Sunshine. He’s at the piano for a change. Love this song, and he’s off to a great start. Wow, this is a new and improved Kris. I’m loving the arrangement. I haven’t been crazy about any of his performances until tonight. This is hot.
Best performance of the night? That’s tough. Adam? Kris? Danny?
Bottom three — hopefully Anoop, Megan and Scott. I expect fear it will be Anoop, Megan, and Lil. I hope to high heaven Megan goes home, but I’m not holding my breath. In fact, based on last week’s results, I suppose Matt could be in danger, but that would be a attrocity.
If Adam wins….Idol is DEAD TO ME. Danny won the night. Megan goes home.
Adam rocks! He’s such a fantastic entertainer. I would love to see Danny win. I think he will do better in the contemporary market than Adam will.

Winner for the Night: Kris. I loved him tonight.
I kind of don’t think America knows what to think about Adam’s performances until the judges weigh in. It’s hard to know if what he does is amazing or just totally different and sort of weird. I’m with you, though, I love him. Just not as much as Matt.

Completely agree about Megan . . . I think it’s the teenage boys who keep her safe each week, but she needs to go. My wife and I cannot stand her voice. It’s not quirky or cute – it’s down right awful.

I just wanted to tell you how much I love your Idol recaps! Between work, grad school, a busy 17-month old, a house and a husband, I often don’t make it all the way through Idol (sad, I know, but I LOVE what little sleep I get…) so I am so excited to check your blog the next day! Thanks for keeping me entertained!!!
LOVED Adam last night, but that is a roller skating song (I realize that may tell my age!) and you just can’t get your groove on to his version!

I missed Kris’ performance and my DVR shut off for some reason, glad to hear he did well. I agree with your pick for bottom three. I’ve thought all along if Megan found the right song I could really like her but it just doesn’t seem to be happening.. maybe like a Nora Jones song? I don’t know. We will see soon.

I was so disappointed with Matt, but I’m a fan of Kris and am glad he did well. Hope Matt doesn’t end up in the bottom three again, but for the love of God Megan’s turn is OVER!
