Before and After

Did you know it’s almost impossible to capture makeup application without professional lighting? Okay then. Just to manage your expectations. I promised some photos of my new makeup but I really don’t expect you’re going to notice anything very different. And I have to admit I’m a wee bit frustrated with the new stuff I bought; I don’t like it as much as I thought I did.

If you missed the prequel to this post, you can read all about it here.  So by popular demand.  Or, you know, because two of you requested photos, here I am with blue eye liner and neutral gold/brown eye shadows.

Just to be sure and cover all the bases, here I am with brown eyeliner and shadows — the colors I wore for about 10 years.

And this is the plum/lavender eye shadows with the blue/black eye liner applied to the outer half of the eye on top and bottom.

I’d love to know your thoughts. Because honestly? I think I like the BROWN!

ohhh, its dangerous to do this …I can’t really decide based on these pictures. The lighting seems different in all three but I do have to say I am impressed with your ability to take pics of yourself.
Isn’t it a snow day there? Maybe the kids could help you out with taking pics…

  2. Jo-Lynne says:

these are a combination of pix taken by me and some by Hub. More on Chic Critique.

  3. Bonnie says:

I like both shadow colors but I really like the blue black eye liner.. I really need a make up change myself. I’m so tired of the same old colors and same old applications, just don’t know how to change it! Great pictures.

  4. LIz says:

The brown is fine, but I think the plum gives a little extra something. I also like that you lined only half of the eye. It definitely changes the way your eyes look, a much softer look. Yeah, I like it.

  5. Michelle says:

Close up I like the brown the best, but further away the plum makes your eyes pop. And really, who is going to look at you from 10 inches away? So plum. Plum is my answer.

  6. Amy says:

    The plum!

  7. I, too, like the browns. Lets face it, you look beautiful in all the shades, but the brown does something extra to me ;)

  8. Whitney says:

    Hi! Its your cousin :-)

I really like the plum… I feel like your eyes and face look brighter!

Still working out my schedule to get to see you soon…

  9. Dorothy says:

    Nice eyebrows.

  10. Mama Bub says:

Up close I can’t tell a difference. Maybe it’s my own bleary eyes that are the problem! Far(ther) away, I think I like the plum the best. And I’m VERY envious of your complexion!

  11. laura says:

This isn’t going to really help you much but I think you look terrific in all of those pictures.
Beautiful skin. you would have to pay me to post close up pictures like that on my blog.

  12. Tatiana says:

The plum looks really nice on you, it brightens your face up more than the brown. The pictures have different lighting so it’s a little difficult to tell if that is what is making you look brighter with the plum or not. Either way, I still like the brown also, it does not look wrong on you.

PS how cool you got to go to such a party, I wish they had those around here!

  13. Lori says:

I think I prefer the plum, actually! The pictures turned out really well – great idea!

  14. Jamie says:

I think the plum looks more natural…which doesn’t make sense! The brown makes you look more made-up. Both look great, so I think you can o either color applocation and rock it.

  15. Janel says:

Well, I think that you look great in all of them. I think your coloring looks awesome in pic #2 because of the color of your shirt. It makes everything pop. Whatever make up you have on in those pics looks great!

I really see your eyes as brown. A soft bright brown. Hazel, eh?

  16. Jo-Lynne says:

Yeah, Janel, I’m not sold on the hazel thing either. But plum is good on both brown and hazel, so it seems like a good way to go. May try for a black eye liner though.

  17. I think the brown looks best for everyday, but the purple looks great too! Maybe use it for evenings or when you’re wearing purple hues.

  18. Love the plum!

  19. Jenn Calling Home says:

I like the blue liner the best. It makes your eyes pop.

  20. Erin D. says:

I like the purple! They all look very natural and expertly applied, which is something I can’t seem to master. But I have green eyes, and I love using purpley eyeliner and shadows, so I’m biased towards purples.

  21. patches_mcmatt says:

I think you’re pretty no matter what color eye shadow you use!

  22. Well, the lighting an photography needs a little help. It could come in the form of one snowbound friend with a 6-year old that would love to have him be distracted by 3 other children.

  23. I’m not good at this at all – I can’t decide. You look great in all three. How’s that for diplomatic? But it’s true!

  24. Jo-Lynne says:

How I love you all! Mmmmwahhh…

Little do you all know that I hardly EVER look like I do in those 3 pictures. I am SUCH a slob most days.

So I have chosen a new avatar from the photos hub took. A new avatar and a new look. Now we just need SPRING! :-)

  25. S. says:

I like the plum best. Fun pics!

  26. windy says:

I vote for the plum! It looks great:)

  27. They all look good, so just go with what YOU like!

  28. Another vote for the plum!

  29. Jaime says:

Actually, I like the plum. However, it might be the lighting or the color of your shirt in the picture. It would definitely help (although might not be possible) to have pictures taken on the same day, in the same shirt, and same light, even if it isn’t professional.

My make-up is in a sorry state. I don’t know what colors to wear or how to apply it. Unfortunately, I’m a bit too busy right now to even care! Shocking, I know.

  30. Jo-Lynne says:

Jaime, I hear ya. The lighting is so different in all of these.

  31. Okay, so you are saying you like the brown liner best? Because I think the plum AND the blue are absolutely gorgeous. I mean, the brown looks absolutely fine, but the colored liners really stand out in a stunning, “Ooooooh, what’s different” sort of way. Keep the colors!

  32. I like the plum. It’s always nice to have options. Maybe it’s a Calista thing? They did me in plum eyeliner and shadow for my wedding – although that was many, many moons ago.

  33. nicole says:

I don’t know anything about makeup and can’t see a big difference. I do love that first picture though. And your new profile picture (is it new? or am I the world’s most un-observant person?). Okay, I looked again and in the up-close pictures, the lavender eye makeup is much softer and looks great.

  34. Fran says:

Let me be generic and say that I truly love ‘em all!
They all look fabulous. Its a mood thing…whatever floats your boat!!

  35. I actually think you look great in them all, but I prefer the first set the best! I wish I could apply makeup that well!

  36. Julie From Inmates says:

I have never been good with make-up or hair. But, I do like the first set best. I think they all look fabulous really, especially with those great eye-brows. =)

  37. Stephanie says:

As you said, it’s hard to tell without professional lighting. But – from the pictures – I really like that blue eyeliner. It’s a nice “pop of color” and compliments your brown eyes nicely.

  38. Darla says:

Plum, totally and completely the plum.

    The End.

    Amen.

  39. Kim Dickerson says:

You are liking the plum probably because you are wearing purple in the picture. Wear something you wear often and try then both…you may like the brown better because you wear more complimenting tones and colors for the brown.

PS>>>I never wear make-up…I have grey chemo face! I have no knowledge of any of this whatsoever.

    Love you sweetie!
    Kim
