Dolphins Blowing Bubbles

In the interest of full disclosure, I want you to know up front that this post is sponsored by Social Spark. Occasionally I will be doing sponsored posts for Social Spark, and I will ALWAYS tell you up front.  I value the trust I have built with my readers, and I would never want you to read an entire post and reach the end and feel like you were duped into reading a paid “advertisement.”  That said, you should know that I will never endorse a product or service that I cannot wholeheartedly recommend, and I don’t believe I am compromising the authenticity of my blog by occasionally accepting a paid writing opportunity.  I do understand, however, that not everyone feels the same way.  So feel free to skip by this post if that turns you off, but REALLY you should read it because what I’m going to share with you is WAY COOL.

The only thing I was asked to do was watch a video and share it with you along with my thoughts about it.  When I saw the video, I immediately called my kids in to have a look.  This is honestly the coolest thing I’ve seen in ages.  And I’m just so psyched that we are actually planning an Orlando vacation for later in the year and I will get to see this exhibit first-hand.  Because I DO plan to go see it.

I’m talking about the Dolphin Bubbles exhibit at Sea World.  (There is a button on my sidebar that takes you to the site.)  These dolphins are actually blowing bubbles in the water from the air in their blow holes and then playing with the bubbles. You have to see it to believe it.  Not only are they creating their own play toys, but they have figured out how to manipulate them to keep from floating up to the surface of the water.  They are such graceful, intelligent creatures.

My kids were mesmerized, particularly my 3-year-old.  After the rest of us left the room, she stayed behind to watch it again.  When she joined us in the kitchen for lunch, she said excitedly, “Mom!  I’m going to be a dolphin when I grow up!”  Of course her older sister wasted no time informing her that there is no way she can be a dolphin EVER, but she was not to be deterred.  “Yes I CAN!” she declared defiantly.  It’s no wonder she is so confident; after all, isn’t everyone always saying that you can be anything you want to be?  I guess I’ll have to qualify that statement from here on in.  Or is it here on out?  Hm.

So anyway, with no further ado, here is that video.

For another really cool video of the dolphin bubbles, seen on ABC News, that explains even more, click here.

So cool! I wanted to be a marine biologist when I was a kid, but the whole swimming and water pressure issues got in the way. I think marine life is fascinating though, and could watch that kind of stuff for hours. Thanks for sharing! I’m so jealous you get to go. :)
