Sunday Mornings

This morning my husband and I were both in our bathroom — I was putting the finishing touches on my makeup, and I suppose he was tying his tie or something — when we heard the howl of our temperamental 3-year-old.  The howling grew louder as she approached.  Once she reached us she started whining about something being wrong with her dress or her shoes or whatever it was that was bothering her at the moment.

My husband cast a resigned look in my direction and sighed, “Sundays…”

I snorted.  “Sundays!  This is EVERY day.  YOU just aren’t HERE.”

He nodded sympathetically as I turned to my daughter, prompted her to use her words and express her needs politely, and proceeded to calmly reposition her dress or her shoes or whatever it was causing the ruckus.

Men.*  Do they really think that it’s all rainbows and butterflies when they’re not around?

*I wouldn’t FOR A SECOND put down my husband.  I just thought it was such a funny commentary on parenthood.

Oooh.  Speaking of my husband.  Today is his 40th Birthday!

Happy Birthday, old man!! :-)

  1. Happy Birthday, Paul! I hope you have a stellar day! I was going to write on your wall on Facebook for the occasion (how else do you say happy birthday to someone??), but I did it here instead in the hopes that you get 40 comments for 40 years!

  3. Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you…Happy Birthday dear Paul, Happy Birthday to you. I would say to picture me singing, but that would scare even the strongest of people :) So..hope your day is fantastic!

  4. Happy Birthday to your husband!

I know what you mean about having to put an asterisk about your joke that it is just a joke :)

Oh, and I was able to join the group. I got an email and everything so I should be informed in the future. Thanks for your help.

    Happy Birthday old man :)

Sundays are like that around here too. Sure, during the week it is crazy too, but Sundays the kids seem so much more riled up.

hubby has had to watch the girls 2 saturdays in a row without me, granted one sat. he had my mom to help and this sat. it was only a total of 6 hours without me. however he is officially in a bad mood, he said he doesn’t know how i get anything done and is amazed i get out of the house on time for anything. yep, everyday of the week babe.

  7. Awww happy birthday to your husband! I can’t make an old man crack because I’m quickly approaching that number myself. ;)

Yeah the morning ruckus…it seems like with girls it’s especially audible!

  8. Linds says:

Happy Birthday! Have a great day!

  9. Just like our house on a Sunday morning. My dh teaches sunday school, so he and the kids leave for church an hour before me (bliss – I love that hour!).

Every Sunday he says “This is SO STRESSFUL – getting 3 kids ready and out for 9.45 am!”

The kids are already dressed and fed, all he has to do is round them up and remind them to bring all they need. I like to remind him I do this EVERY school day (he leaves for work at 7.30am so misses the fun) and then, as it says in my blog header – I say “Welcome to my world!”

    Happy Birthday to your dh.

  10. hahaha – so true!

    Happy bday to your man!

  11. Grace says:

Happy Birthday to Paul! Yep, your household sounds normal. And Paul’s assessment of it is, too, bless his precious male heart. Perhaps, this is actually a tribute to you, since you obviously have your household looking “together” when he comes home.

  12. Kim says:

Happy 40th. Welcome to the club!!

  13. Oh my word, I can SO relate trying to get my 3-year-old to USE HER WORDS. Argh.

  14. Lindsay says:

hehe oo I don’t look forward to that age either.. so when does it get better and you dont have to remind them to use their words?

  15. Aaah, so young! :-)

  16. Terra says:

My husband thinks it is rosey when HE is around and I am gone…thing is he has never done that for more than a couple hours. I need to run away for a month so he can really smell the flowers.

  17. Jackie says:

Happy birthday to your husband! Hope you had a wonderful day.

  18. Chris says:

    Happy Birthday to your honey.

  19. Happy Birthday to your hubby!

My hubby has made the same comments! And I agree, “What do they think it is like when they aren’t around?”

You hit the nail on the head with this post!

  20. Happy Birthday DCRDad!

But wait, Jo-Lynne, were you at MY house on Sunday? Like you, it happens frequently but this week was a doozy.

  21. HAHA – Old Man ;)

Happy Birthday. 40 is looking good on him.

  22. Kellyn says:

    Happy Birthday!

My husband and I have that conversation all the time. Things at bed time that he never sees blow his mind. It is never as simple when he deals with bed times.

  23. Elaine says:

That is quite humorous. Sounds like something my hubs would say/do. Hope your man had a great birthday!

  24. Happy Birthday to your hubby – hope you had a lovely day! My hubby will be 40 in July.

  25. Cathy says:

Oh I hear ya about the e year old… I posted about our “break-up” last week. Do you ever get that feeling, when they turn 3-ish? Its like they start breaking off from being an appendage to their own cranky selves? LOL
