Links and Shout Outs

links-and-shout-outs2Good morning, Interets!  It’s been quite an eventful 24 hours.  Yesterday, after picking up my daughter from school in the pelting rain, I returned to the protection of my warm and dry, if-not-entirely-tidy home, and set to work here at ye olde computer where I planned to spend the remainder of the afternoon.

The next thing I knew, the phone rang.  It was my mom.  She was at the Philadelphia airport, on her way from Virginia to Maine (Philly happens to be a convenient connecting airport), stranded due to the inclement weather.  Of course I told her to sit tight; I’d be there as soon as I could.  So I rounded up the girls and hopped in the car and drove to get her, and that’s how we ended up with an unexpected but very welcome house guest for the night.  The kids were delighted (as was I) and we had a nice, albeit short visit.  She’s already back at the airport and hopefully awaiting her ON TIME flight to Maine this morning.

Meanwhile, today is Opening Day for Little League as well as the day of our church’s Easter Egg Hunt so I’ll be busy.  Just look at this big guy.  I can’t believe it.

As usual, the weather is hardly conducive to outdoor activities.  I don’t know when I’ll get used to spring in Pennsylvania, but it seems like the Easter Egg Hunt and Opening Day are ALWAYS the coldest days of the month.  At least the sun is shining, which is more than I can say for the extended forecast…

But let’s not dwell in the negative.  Okay, on to my links!

Good for a laugh — Black Coat, Red Boots

I can relate only TOO well — At the grocery store, in the peanut butter aisle.

Lysa announced the winners of the She Speaks scholarships — She Speaks Scholarship Winner Announced.  There are THREE!  Very exciting.  I can’t wait to see you all there!

Amy shares tips and tricks for successful home hair coloring — At Home Hair Coloring Savings.  I am considering giving this a try.  I even bought a box of color.  But I’m SCAYERED.  Should I do it??  My biggest fear is that my hair will look like I applied a coat of shoe polish.

I made this recipe last night — Chicken Scallopine.  It was DIVINE.

Is it wrong I keep showing up at your rainy parade only to SNOW on it?

6-12″ of snow here for today/tonight/tomorrow with winds 35-45 mph.

My parents are heading back to Maine next Thursday. They have been here since November but we are all still going to miss them! But they have the fun of driving from Florida lol.
It’s been pretty nice here the last few days. I know your nice weather time is coming soon and then ours will be over! LOL.
Blessings,
Kim

I am scared to color my hair — be it myself OR in salon. I LOVE my natural look — all the shades of brown, red and gold, and to color it wipes all that out. BUT there are more and more “natural highlights” of the unattractive gray variety, so it’s getting to be time. I sort of feel like I might rather be in control myself.

Yes, Jennifer, that is EXACTLY my dilemma. That, and also my hair isn’t as shiny as it used to be. I’m hoping color may help that?

Jo-Lynne – no worries! I used to dye my own hair all the time. Just strip down naked and lock yourself in the bathroom while you apply and wait. (The color gets everywhere and it stains!) Then jump in the shower for the rinse. Oh, and dry your hair with a dark and/or old towel the first few times, so you don’t ruin your good towels!

And I’ve been meaning to send you a link for this cool makeup website if you haven’t heard of it yet. It has great, yet inexpensive (and environmentally friendly) mineral makeup.

baseball started for us about two weeks ago…we’ve already had 3 rained out practices. Not that I’m complaining. At all.

Have a good weekend!

Doing your hair yourself. Oh my goodness you are brave! I don’t know if I could be so brave.

I box color my hair all of the time. I normally use Natural Instincts because it’s semi-permanent, but I’m thinking about trying the Perfect 10 that Amy recommended. I don’t want drastic change- just a hint of auburn and shinier hair and I’m able to achieve that look with a box. Good luck- keep us posted :) .
