What I Learned This Week Edition 12

in What I Learned This Week

what-i-learned-this-weekThis week I learned that if you want summer dresses for your little girls, you better buy them before Easter.

Before Easter, the children’s stores were awash with dresses in every pastel shade of color under the rainbow.  One day in the weeks preceding Easter, I happened into the Osh Kosh Outlet (one of my VERY FAVORITE STORES at the Philadelphia Premium Outlets because they have so many cute, modest, affordable clothes for my girls) and there were racks of cute cotton floral dresses, some with smocking, all with pretty tiered skirts.  My girls love dresses, and these were the wash-and-wear kind that are perfect for school and church and everything in between.  I bought a couple for my older daughter but the sizing didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped.  Even so, she loved them, and my younger daughter loved them too (she ended up wearing one of the smaller ones I’d bought.)

Fast forward to last week.  I decided to go back and stock up in the right sizes, and the dresses were all but gone.  GONE!  I managed to snag one in my younger daughter’s size, but my older daughter is stuck wearing one that’s too small (because she loves it too much to give it up) and the other one that fits right, she tries to wear every time it’s clean.

Bah humbug!  Why do dresses disappear after Easter!?  It perplexes me.  Next year I’ll know to stock up before ye olde bunny makes his appearance.

Now I’m off to buy a new washer and dryer.  Yes, mine finally bit the dust.  I am desperate.  I hate making major purchases when I’m desperate.  I can’t haggle as much.  And I do love to haggle.

What did YOU learn this week?!

Think of the inability to find dresses as a money saving measure. Find some leggings and make last year’s dresses work for one more year. Or just keep looking, which is more fun.

I just want you to know that I was hanging around waiting for you to publish your WILTW post BEFORE heading out to the mall. That’s dedication, girlfriend! =)

I hate that! We always had the hardest time buying clothes for Boo in season, because most stores put next seasons clothes out so early.

I hope you find some!!

Have faith – before Easter it is primarily Easter dresses and cruise wear…the summer stuff will be out soon. I already told you how I feel about my Maytag HE Frontloaders. I like them fine, but would not buy them again.

Yes!!! I hate that about dresses! Target still has some cute ones. Try Sears, too.
My dryer is on its last legs. It is taking 2 dry cycles to dry a load. Frustrating! Happy haggling, and let us all know what you end up with! I love a story of a good deal!

oo I hear you.. I dont have anyone to buy dresses for but I noticed they were all gone the day after Easter! My issue is why do they sell all of the cute little boy Easter outfits as sets? My son is in 2T for things on top but most of his pants are still 6-12 months.. He has short legs and a tiny waist.. So all those cute sweater vets.. I couldn’t get a hold of since I would still have to find another pair of pants.. that he might fit in by the time he is 12 ;-)

Our red-head turned 9 this year and between her skinny body, long legs and traditional parents … finding a dress at any time of year is next to impossible anymore. We live in an outlet “mecca” and had such a great time buying dresses at Carter, Osh Kosh, Strasburg, & Heartstrings until she turned 7 1/2… but they don’t make her size anymore – thank goodness for the Land’s End catalog – at least she has something to wear!!

I also learned that raincoats and boots must be purchased when you see them, rather than after a rainy weekend. Thank goodness for online shopping!

Do you go to Costco? I can usually find cute little sundresses there. I’ve bought all kinds of sewing patterns for sundresses, now all I need to do is learn to sew…

Too bad about the dress. Hopefully a lesson learned (the hard way!) :(

Not having girls, I had no idea!

I do know that the swimsuits go quickly, especially the swim shirts for boys.

Not only do the dresses disappear too soon, but they put them out too soon – who wants to wear a sleeveless dress in late March or early April? Then begins the search for sweaters to match – the clothing battles never end!

You might also try a nice resale shop. I was in one today and they had a ton of cute spring dresses–but my daughter has a personal shopper called Grandma who keeps her supplied!

Oh how I remember this same frustration! We were living in London at the time and I so badly wanted a frilly little thing for my sweetie to wear…nothing doing! I searched and searched and made a mental note to shop for Easter in the good ole USA where merchants know how to make a buck off a holiday! teehee!

I always wait until AFTER the holiday/season to get the best sales, but then there’s the risk of htem being all out! now that I have 3 girls to buy for, I am a much worse shopper, because it is easier to just get it when they first come out in a variety of colors and sizes. Cause I practically need one in every size!

I want to know why there are so few dresses available for girls after they leave the toddler department. Seven year olds want to look pretty for Easter too!

I was at Macy’s over the weekend and they still had TONS of cute little girl dresses. They were more on the fancy side, though, not so much play dresses. My MIL had picked out matching dresses for my three girls, but not the right sizes. I ended up getting them matching skorts and tops instead. They had little birds on them–really cute.

now, me? i remember to buy the dresses. but always manage to forget shoes!! so gracie ends up in ellie’s shoes from last summer (that are usually too big) and ellie ends up wearing her cute easter dress with big, black mary janes.
oh well!!
