What I Learned This Week Volume 13

by Jo-Lynne on April 28, 2009

in What I Learned This Week

what-i-learned-this-weekThis week was a doozie, I’m tellin ya.  The weather has gone from hanging out in the 40s and 50s straight to 90.  As much as I love hot weather, I learned that when it gets too hot too fast, it takes some getting used to.

Exactly a week ago my dryer broke and I learned that laundry multiplies exponentially for an active family of 5 when you can’t keep up with it daily.

I learned that with high efficiency machines, clothes actually get cleaner faster than with the old fashioned kind.  Hopefully we’ll be saving money on our laundry bill as well.

I learned that I’m not as frivolous as I thought.  When it came down to it, I could not pay extra for the pretty colors or for the pedestals.  (Fortunately we found a deal where we got the pedestals for free with our purchase!  WOOT!)

I learned that doing laundry is actually somewhat enjoyable with new appliances.  My new washer and dryer actually sing me a little song when they’re cycles are done.  It’s the little things, people.

I learned that I CAN pick a paint color in less than 20 minutes and actually LIKE it.

I learned that bold paint is FUN!

Last night I learned that there is nothing quite as gruesome as waking up to the sound of your daughter retching a foot away from your bed.  Oh yes, you heard me right.  The stomach flu hit our home last night.  This is the second time this winter (and the second time in my daughter’s life) that she has caught a puke bug.  I am hoping and praying no one else gets it.  I am also incredibly thankful that this didn’t happen when we were without a washer and dryer!  I know, it all comes back to that, doesn’t it?

I learned that it’s never a good idea to cut one’s own hair when one doesn’t like the cut one was given at the salon.  There’s a reason they earn the big bucks.  They may not get it right, but that’s no reason to take matters into one’s own hands.  AHEM.

I think that’s enough LARNING for one week, don’t you?

What did you LARN this week?!

I’m sorry about your daughter. Have you ever noticed it almost always happens in the middle of the night? There must be some medical explanation but it just seems wrong. We need to be awake and alert for these things. My son had the same thing but it did start a little later in the morning.

I hope your daughter feels better and you laundry room sounds fabulous.

My 3 year old is dealing with a nasty sinus infection…. for the third time this year. GRRRR.

The stomach bug visited our house twice this winter, too. There should be some rule against that happening. One stomach bug a winter is enough. Fortunately, the second bug was no where near as nasty as the first. All the same, I hope you’re little one feels better soon!

And — you tried to “fix” your hair yourself!?!? You should have let the inter-peeps know of your intentions before you took scissors to hair. We would have staged some kind of an intervention! ;) Seriously though, I like the bangs on you. I think it’s a fun change!

It was crooked! Ridiculous.

Yikes! Puking and bad hair cuts! Mental note: Don’t change my hairstyle or eat bad tuna! LOL. I’m glad you found some joy in your singing appliances though!
Hugs.
Kim
I did like your new hair cut though. What did you end up doing to it?

Love your choice of wall colour – mine took WEEKS to pick, and to my dh all the shades looked the same!

I have never attempted cutting hair (unless giving Barbie an uneven bob when I was 9 counts!) and have no plans to either :)

Oh I hope she gets better soon and that the rest of the family is spared. And way to be frugal. :)

Oh wow…I’m so sorry. I dealt with the pukes (omitvay we’re now calling it) last week. Not fun. Not at all fun. But hey, you got to really break in the new washer and dryer, didn’t you?! Yahoo!

Hope she’s better real soon.

I am so sorry about the stomach bug at your house. As for your hair, next time return it. Seriously have them fix it or give you your money back. It’s totally allowed.

I feel for you since you’ve got the bug. Hopefully it is a quick one and you can get back to life as normal. And it is TOTALLY AWESOME that you got the pedestals for free. Jealous! Happy Tuesday!

I have been meaning to tell you how much I like your orange laundry room walls. Good choice going bold. Why not, right? Kudos on you rockin’ good deal too.

Sorry your little is sick! Here’s good thoughts for NOT spreading to your whole family.

I hope your daughter feels better soon and no one else gets the pukes. Your laundry room looks great – I bet you’re enjoying it, not laundry I mean :)

Oh no! The poor thing. I really hope she feels better and that no one else gets it.

Picking paint colors under pressure is always interesting, but can be so successful!

Ok, I’ll get down to posting my LARNing in a bit.

Be right back. ;-)

I commend you for choosing paint color in 20 minutes. I deliberate for days, nay WEEKS, over paint colors. Not even sure I deliberated long enough over our bedroom colors this time, but what’s done is done.

I really am so sorry about the stomach crud! ICK ICK ICK! New washer and dryer and doing laundry is like buying new tubs and organizing a closet- suddenly it rocks. for about a week.
