It’s The End of the Road for Danny

in American Idol Recaps

dannySince I missed last night’s American Idol show, I was feeling oddly detached from tonight’s results.  I fully expected, as most of the American Idol watching public probably did, that Kris would be on his way home right now.  But nope, in a classic American Idol twist, the popular Danny Gokey is the odd man out tonight.

I would love to see the performance from last night that Simon said made Kris a real contender.  I guess it’s time for a little YouTube search.  Although I don’t think that’s entirely fair (Simon’s comment, that is).  I think Kris has been a serious contender since midway through the season when he really came into his own.  He had some brilliant performances, and he has a strong fan base.  In fact, this reminds me of a comment that was made on one of my recap posts a few weeks ago, labeling Kris a black horse in this competition.  Good call!

Danny’s final performance on Season 8 of You Are So Beautiful after his fate was revealed tonight was worthy of all the hype I read in last night’s recaps.  I’m so bummed I missed last night’s show.

I hate to see Danny go.  I was an early fan of his, although I admit my loyalty became divided between him, Allison, and Adam as the season progressed.  For the first time ever, I didn’t have a strong preference going into the semi-finals.

Therefore even though I’m sad to see Danny go, I’m not hugely disappointed.  And while I admire Adam’s consistency and stage presence throughout the season, I won’t mind if Kris takes that trophy home next week.  Either way, I’m looking forward to the finals.  Not as much as I would if Danny were in it, but the way I see it, the Final Four this year were all deserving, and any one of them could have been the next American Idol.

I screamed when I heard Ryan say Chris’ name. WHAATT??? He is the least talented of them all. He just doesn’t have the chops that Adam and Danny have. Hit a few sour notes last night, and I expect a few more next week. Adam is going to roll right over him. May as well give him the crown now. What did Simon say? “It’s going to be a ding-dong.” Whatever that means! And did you see Simon’s face when Chris was declared a finalist? His eyes got really wide and I could just hear him saying, “You’ve GAWT to be kidding me! America made a complete and UTTER mistake!”

I haven’t watched last nights results show yet but I knew I could get the scoop here. Danny was my favorite from the beginning (I just think he seems so nice) but the past few weeks I really started cheering for Kris. He really did a good job on Tuesday. It’s still kind of shocking to see Danny go.

WOOHOOO! My boy Kris made it in!!

and did you hear Ryan say there were only 1 mil votes separating the top 2 ? Out of 88 million votes, 1 mil is a CLOSE race!!! I bet Kris gets a lot of Danny’s votes. Should be interesting next week!! – you know I would have liked to have seen Danny and Kris in the final – oooh, this will be fun!

Kris was BRILLIANT! I haven’t really noticed him much this season until recently. I think his is the album I would regularly listen to most, although I think Adam is immensely talented.

I liked Kris’ 1st song (Apologize) but I wasn’t into his 2nd like everyone else and I didn’t like any of the others’ songs either. You didn’t miss much.

I agree that any of the top 4 could have been in the finals. Danny will do just fine and I look forward to hearing from him in the future.

Simon made that comment because the judges all got in big argument about Kris’ first song, the judges pick for him, and Randy and Kara especially really trashed him for it and it was their pick. Then when he sang Heartless he blew it out of the water, hence that comment from Simon. Personally, I liked Kris’ first performance too, but that’s just me.

Deep down I was hoping for a Danny/Kris final two. I’m sorry to see Danny go, but seeing I’ve been routing for Kris since the top 32, I’m beyond thrilled. To me he’s the only one who’s gotten where he is purely on his talent. Everyone else had camera time and major back stories right up until the top 16, he didn’t have anything in that department. Next week’s show should be awesome.

I really wanted to see a Kris/Danny final… I can’t deny Adam’s talent, but I really don’t want to see him win – something about how the judges fawn over him really turns my stomach… I’m rooting for Kris next week! And, I can’t wait to see what Danny does after this – he’s got a great career ahead of him – LOVED his song the last two nights!

I completely agree with Ashley.

I’m thinking that this will benefit Kris more than Adam though, as I bet Kris picks up a lot of Danny’s old voters. I don’t think that Danny voters would be as likely to flip over to Adam, since their styles are worlds apart.

Needless to say, I hope Kris wins.

Never having watched AI before though, I’m curious: Has this ever happened before, where someone who has never been in the bottom is eliminated? That surprised me.

Whoever says Kris isn’t talented doesn’t know what talent is.
Adam, Danny, and Kris (and Allison, of course) are all tremendously talented, and any one of those top 4 is deserving of a win.

I was not surprised to see Danny go last night. Adam had the shameless backing…schmoozing…of the judges. And Katy Perry…ugh! So that helped boost him, I’m sure. Kris’ version of Apologize was better than the judges gave him credit for. And his second song was such an original twist on the Kanye version! Danny has a most amazing voice. Paula’s song pick hurt him. Why choose a song that requires Danny to dance? Not fair! And while his second song was beautiful, he was overshadowed by Kris, and then Adam.

I hold to my theory that Kris will get the majority of Danny’s votes, and will go on to win this thing. Being an Arkansan, I’m pleased with this. Adam is fantastic too, though, and I will be happy, no matter who wins. Both of them–and Danny and Allison too–have bright careers in front of them.

Overall this has been my favorite Idol season, followed closely by the Carrie Underwood season. Next season, I hope to see fair exposure given to all the contestants, and that the obvious bias of the judges will stay under wraps.

Jo-Lynne,

I’m flattered you remembered my post. :) Just don’t tell my wife I was right – she hate’s it when I’m right.

Though Adam is impressive and like a train wreck to watch (you just can’t look away even though something inside you is screaming “don’t look!”) – I do hope Kris wins. I think that he has a much better shot of having staying-power when it comes to commercial radio than what Adam does.

Adam’s followers are eccentric, to put it mildly, and am not sure how that would translate to radio. Somehow I imagine his live show’s would be a mix between the Rocky Horror Picture Show done Broadway style with a dash of 80′s hair band screams thrown in. ;) But let’s not paint him into that corner alone. Look him up on YouTube and watch “Is Anybody Listening” from a play he was in starring Val Kilmer and then swing over to check out his performance of one of his original songs “Crawl Thru Fire” from the Zodiac Show (put the kiddies to bed first . . .not appropirate.)

You decide.

hubby was so sad to see danny go! Chris is very talented and adam has a set of pipes for sure(even though he annoys us both). It is such a hard season!
