Links and Shout Outs

I wish I had a slew of links for you this weekend, but I don’t.  Here are a few, though, that you shouldn’t miss.

This one’s for all the poets out there.  Terra has a fun contest going on at her blog and you can win a personalized book by Justin Matott.

I Still Remember — Raising Five.  This is a little word of encouragement from a mom who’s been there.

Luxury vs. Premium — Seth Godin.  I found this distinction VERY interesting.

Re: the premium vs. luxury – I understand what he is saying and I agree with the premise completely. But, did you find it interesting that the woman’s clothes are frivolous but the man’s suit “might be worth it.” Hm…. I’m six feet tall – am I allowed a “custom gown” without being “frivolous.” :) (of course, that would also assume that I would have anywhere to wear anything but jeans and tee. :) )

HA. Yeah, sorta. But I got his point. I think he would agree that a woman could as easily justify a custom made article of clothing if she had specific needs.

I like his point b/c I buy premium denim, for example, and shoes at times. I don’t buy them to advertise the brand. In fact, I prefer my friends and acquaintances DON’T know the brand and what they cost. I often feel awkward when people ask, both in real life and on the blog, b/c I know it’s a LOT of money and I’m not comfortable advertising that. I buy them b/c I like the way they look and fit, not b/c they have a logo on them.

I thought it was an interesting distinction, and a good thing to remember when I am shopping in premium or luxury stores — buy for the quality or the features, but don’t get caught up in overpaying for the name.

  3. The luxury vs premium article was interesting. It ‘s just a language that most regular folk don’t use.

I used to post every single day. But, now I post Monday through Friday and leave the weekends for family. Plus, I enjoy not being attached to my Macbook (as much) on the weekends.

  5. I respect Seth Godin and always enjoy reading his blog. He makes a great point. I think premium can be important but just can’t get my mind around luxury for the sake of being able to spend more.

p.s. happy to say I just found your blog and look forward to being a frequent reader :)
