6 Unimportant Things That Make Me Happy

I was tagged for this meme years weeks ago, and I haven’t gotten around to following up on it.  I have about 20 posts started in my draft folder, but surprise of surprises, 90% of them have to do with “real food.”  (For the record, I do hate that term; I find it distasteful.  Haha, aren’t I punny!?  While I do resent all the processed crap that is out there, and particularly the way it is peddled to our kids, I also feel like referring to traditional whole foods as “real food” and the rest of it as “edible imitation food products” or some such nonsense is condescending.  And yet, I do find myself struggling to find simple terms to differentiate the two.  So please know that it is never my intention to sound superior or condescending.  I absolutely detest that in a person.)  All that to say, I don’t want to turn this into a health and nutrition blog, and yet it’s a bit of a struggle to maintain a sense of balance, as I find myself a bit engrossed in this topic at the moment.

So.  Movingrightalong.

6 Unimportant Things That Make Me Happy

1.  Sunshine.

Nothing boosts my mood like a sunshiny day.  It can be 30 degrees or 100, I don’t really care, as long as the sun is shining.

2.  Scoring the PERFECT handbag at a fraction of the retail price when I least expect it.

For months I’ve been wanting a red handbag, but I haven’t found The One, and I haven’t really looked very hard.  But every once in a while, I put on an outfit, and I think, What this really needs is a red handbag. I put on one such outfit two times this past weekend, so when I was at Marshalls yesterday looking for shoes, I wandered back to the handbag section just for kicks.  After perusing all 4 racks, I was almost done, when a bright light shone from above and angels sang and I saw The Bag.  It was EXACTLY what I wanted.  I grabbed that thing right up, let. me. tell. you.

3.  Good Music

Any music, really.  I’m a huge fan of classic rock, but I love country and classical too.  My iPod has QUITE an eclectic mix of music.  Or it did.  Before it went through the washing machine and died a tragic death.  (For the record, it is now buried in a bowl of rice.  I’m hoping it’s not too late to salvage it, but I’m not optimistic.)

4.  A perfect mojito

Nuff said.

5.  The way I feel after a good run.

There’s nothing like it.  And I never thought I’d say THAT.

That’s five, but I’m off to an appointment.  And it’s a Monday.  So I’m cutting myself a break.

Feel free to play along!  Leave me a link if you do, and I’ll be sure to check it out.

I’ve heard the rice bowl works miracles. And way to go on the running! That’s what I always tell people–I hate the actual running usually, but I LOVE the way I feel after. So strong and hot and so on.

You had me until the run. Congrats on the purse score, I have had the perfect 75% off one for a year now, and it’s close to dying. Your post gives me hope that the next perfect purse is just right around the corner!

I drank a mojito yesterday and it made me think of you. Of course, I was using up a drink mix we had sitting around in a cabinet so I’m sure it wasn’t as good as your homemade moijitos!

Well, like someone else said, you had me until the running part. ;-) Running just causes asthma attacks for me, always has even as a kid in gym class. I hated running! But biking, now THAT is something I can manage. And we just got our bikes tuned up – finally – so we’ll be out riding all week in this awesome, awesome weather we are having in Seattle.

What makes me happy? Hearing my kids laugh uncontrollably; hitting an effortless golf shot; a big bowl of vanilla chip ice cream on a hot summer evening.

AND, a revamped blog, thanks to DCR Design!! Love my new blog format – thanks for all your help, Jo-Lynne!

Great job on the bag! I can hear those angels singing. They often hang around the racks at Marshall’s.

Um, pretty much all of the above. :)

I get most of my purses at TJMaxx/Ross/Marshalls and in fact, just bought two new ones there this summer. Love.

I think the key word in point #5 is “after” as in “the way I feel AFTER a good run.” My thoughts exactly. :)
