Fashion Question of the Week

I’m a huge fan of black, and I’ve always wanted a “go to” black dress that I can dress up or down and change up with accessories.  I thought I found one earlier this summer, but after wearing it a few times, it’s not QUITE doing it for me.  This is the story of my LIFE when it comes to dresses.

So yesterday I was at the mall and I came across this Sleeveless T-Shirt Dress.  Score!

T-shirt-Dress

It’s cute.  It’s comfy.

(And it’s not that short on me.)

(And I had a 20% off coupon.)

So here’s where YOU come in.

I need accessories.  What do you suggest?  I’d like to dress it down, I think, for my events next week.  I have some flat silver flip flop sandals that I can wear with it and some gold wedge sandals that give me some height but still are casual.  So I could use ideas in both gold and silver.  Or I could go with color, I suppose.  I did pick up a turquoise beaded necklace yesterday that looks nice with it.

Dish.  What’s your favorite way to accessorize a LBD?

  1. I would go with a really chunky or thick silver bangle braclet, and some nice big silver hoop earrings. That’s not too dressy. I’m not sure how I feel about black with gold…I’d have to see the shoes.

    Turquoise! Turquoise! Turquoise!

  3. Actually when I said bangle, in my mind I was thinking more like a cuff…a wide silver cuff bracelet.

  4. I always have to preface any answers to such questions by saying “I am no fashion expert, but. . . . ”

Scarves are always good, and they are trendy. There’s lots of ways you can tie them, and they are casual, and can add great color. Maybe not what you’re looking for for this event, but if you want a breezy casual look, I think it would work.

A wide belt looks nice for a casual look. Match it to your shoes (or not).

I’ve been doing hot pink with black. I have these really cute patent leather hot pink pumps I wear with a black and white dress I have. It sounds crazy, but it looks great. I’ve also seen a lot of bright yellow with black lately.

I would go with a big chunky bangle bracelet and some fun, bright shoes. I’ve been wearing bright yellow sandals all summer and I LOVE ‘em!

I have a long, silver necklace that is different sized ovals linked together. I also have some dangly, interconnected silver oval earrings. I love them because they make something solid and a little plain feel special. And they match everything. So that’s what I would look for.

  9. I like a jean jacket to dress down a black dress. Or a short-sleeved cardigan and some fun, matching jewelry.

  10. Naturally I would suggest a custom-made cute charm bracelet with beads of your choice…..LOL!

Seriously…would probably go with silver jewelery maybe with a splash of turquoise or hot pink.

  11. melissa says:

    either big, colorful beads
    or
all silver (you have great silver!!)

  12. Alyssa says:

i have taken to accessorising with scarves lately, not like warm scarves but colourful silk ones… they are light, look amazing and come in handy if the weather turns bad and you need to protect your hair!

  13. Emily says:

I would go silver but also splash out on colour. The best thing about black dresses is that they can be anything and everything. Go for turquoise or hot pink and bright yellow is huge this summer (although be careful not to over do it or you’ll look like a bee!)

I’d go silver for a night out and bold, brights for a more casual look!

  14. Stephanie says:

I bet the turquoise necklace will be lovely.

If you want to dress it down, you might consider a denim jacket (I’m still searching for the perfect one).
