There is a theory that those fats actually help you not to gain weight (I can't remember the whole reasoning behind it) but I do eat a lot of whole fat foods and I'm struggling with middle-age weight (I'm almost 40, and I think my metabolism is rebelling) so I hate to promise you that it won't matter.
I am all for eating things in as close to their whole and original state as possible so I continue to eat full fat dairy and lots of butter and coconut oil and lard. But I find that I need to keep my portion sizes small.
Is that helpful AT ALL? lol . . .

Hey Steph. I struggle with this. And I thought of you as my husband and I have been processing how to become healthier and make realistic changes in our diet. I've read through your philosophies (and reading inspirations) before - and this is the first time I've read through this post (albeit it about 2 years after the fact!). My family is young - we have an almost 3 year old and a 6 month old. But we want to do things right. We are open to many kinds of dietary changes - and we are not afraid of healthy stuff by any means. But the idea of taking all the processed foods out of the equation seems overwhelming because ... well...we are used to it and it's SO EASY to pick up stuff at the grocery store. I think we can work on weaning down on that stuff, while adding other good things (although my 3 year old may balk at some stuff haha). My question (and I do have one): I am also in the process of trying to lose baby weight - about 10-15 lbs. I know the philosophies that have inspired you advocate for REAL food - real butter, real creamer, non-skim milk, etc. How does that fit into losing weight? I know you are not a dietician haha. I guess I'd love to know your experience with adding those things into your diet and the affect it had/has on your body. We also toy with cutting back/out gluten - but one change at a time!
Sorry for the uber-long comment :)

Jo-lynne: I’ve been reading your blog for a while now (and run in the PSMM circle o’ bloggers). But I have never felt better, and never had a healthier winter, so it's worth it to me. I want to get Food Rules. You should read Omnivore's Dilemma. Good stuff.

Hi Kaley. I’m so glad this information is making it mainstream. And yes, it IS expensive. I just stumbled upon this post and, ironically, just got done reading "Food Rules" and watching Food, Inc. Obviously, I am now sharing the same food values and goals as you, and I also want to share the information with EVERYONE! It's definitely easier to just shove our fingers in our ears and say LA LA LA LA LAAA! when it comes to the food industry, but now that we know what's reallllly going on, it's horrifying. I wish it wasn't so expensive to eat healthy and fresh and REAL, but, sigh, it is. Pay now or pay later for medical bills, I say. Anyway, thanks for posting!

Hi! I just stumbled upon this post and, ironically, just got done reading “Food Rules” and watching Food, Inc. I just stumbled upon this site looking for a recipe. Wow! I just finished reading "Eating Animals" and am committed to changing my family's eating habits. However, it's really hard to know where to shop and what meats/dairy to "trust." We also live in a 'burb of Philly--Media. Any advice on local places to purchase food? I shop at Trader Joe's a lot, but would love to find a better alternative!
Thanks!
