Fashion Question of the Week

Darla asks: Do you think only slinky-type shoulder strap camisoles are the thing to wear under this?  Or are broader-type shouldered (is that a word?) camisoles ok?  Also, if I wanted to extend the life of this shirt into winter (cuz it’s cold here at the North Pole), would you ever consider wearing like a 3/4 length shirt (sleeves squished up over elbow, so it doesn’t go below the end of sleeve)?  Or is that a fashion don’t?

I say: First of all, CUTE SHIRT!  I have stayed away from that style because a) I don’t know what to wear under it and 3) I need structure.  At least, that’s what I’m convinced Stacy and Clinton would tell me, if they had the chance.  So.  I’m not sure I’m much help.  But I’m sure someone around here will have some advice for you.

That said, having no authority to give my opinion has never stopped me yet, so here’s my 2 cents.  I think I’d stick with a stretchy, fitted cami type of thing underneath, probably in black.  I’m not so sure about the 3/4 length shirt, but then I’m not exactly a risk taker when it comes to fashion.  It’s a burden, y’all.

What do YOU say? What should Darla wear under her sassy new shirt?

In the warmer months, I’d stick with a cami or tank. I can see it with yellow, honeydew, dove, silver and whatever that reddish color is, as well as black.

In the colder months, I think you can do a 3/4 sleeve. Personally, I would wear a long-sleeved, scoop-neck or deep-v tee; I’d let the ends of the long sleeve show. To be hip, I could see it with slim jeans or leggings and some cool jewelry.

Oooooh, I can actually visualize that, with the arms of the T actually showing to the wrist. Good input! Now I want to go buy that shirt.

Oh goodness, I’m a walking fashion blunder and candidate for What Not To Wear, but I say: wear what you’re comfortable in. I do imagine that any “under” shirt whose sleeves don’t show, would be fine. It’s a gorgeous, showy shirt. Any solid, understated thing you wear underneath will hardly be noticed, IMO.

You can definitely pull off a thicker-strap black cami under that shirt! I’m not sure about the black long-sleeve shirt underneath but if you’re chilly you can always throw a black blazer or a cardigan over it! I’ve been loving the jeans, heels, and a breezy shirt with a black blazer look lately, give it a try!

I would go with a black, silky cami under this shirt. But, that’s just my non fashion, uneducated advice.

I agree with Grace (first comment) – I love the idea of longer sleeves sticking out! I really think you could get away with most anything underneath this shirt. Super cute!

For the fall I would totally do a 3/4 sleeve top under, preferably a very fitted black scoop neck.
Even a bodysuit like this:
