Gratitude Challenge Day #3

the-gratitude-challenge1

Okay, so it’s really day 4, but yesterday’s assignment was to write a post about something I feel grateful for in my life, and did I do that?  No, of course not.  Because procrastination is the name of my game!  So, here I am, a day late and a dollar short, as usual.

Speaking of which, did I tell you about my fiasco of a day on Tuesday?  It’s such a great example of how I roll.  I knew I had an orthodontist appointment at 3:30.  It was long overdue.  I’d canceled and postponed the appointment for far too long, so I did everything in my power to get there on time.  (And also, we had plans to meet my husband at the pool at 5:30.)  But when I arrived at the orthodontist, I realized I was at the wrong office.  BLAST!  So I called and bled all over the phone, and they said to drive on over to the correct office and they would fit me in somehow.

So I drove 45 minutes to the other office with all three kids protesting the whole way.  And they fit me in.  But of course I had lost my next tray of Invisalign.  The orthodontist just laughed when he heard that.  I’m supposed to be near the end, but my bottom teeth are not cooperating, so he said we would just ditch the rest of my trays, get new impressions made, and go into what he calls refinement.  Fortunately, there is no additional cost for this, but it means that instead of having two trays left, I’ll have 10 or 12.  Joy.  With any luck, I’ll be done with braces by the time I’m 50.

By the time we were done there, it would have taken too long to go home, get our suits and swim gear, pack sandwiches and fruit for dinner, and make it back to the pool in time to enjoy it before it closed, so I had to tell the kids that there was no pool in their immediate future.  They were so not amused.

Which has nothing to do with being grateful, but anyway.

Today I just want to say that I’m grateful for YOU! Yes, even you, there in the back, lurking but not commenting.  Of course lurking is perfectly fine, although I’d love it if you’d just say Hi every once in a while.  But no pressure!

Seriously, though, without this community of readers and commenters, blogging would mean nothing to me.  I’m quite sure I would not still be blogging if there was no social interaction.  Every day you make me laugh or cry, you encourage me, you challenge me, you inspire me.  Some of you are moms and some of you aren’t.  Some of you share my love of coffee and handbags, and some of you couldn’t care less.  Some of you share my faith, and some of you don’t.  Some of you share my passion for traditional whole foods, and some of you think I’m a nutcase.  But each one of you hangs around because something I talk about resonates with you on some level, and I’m so grateful for the contributions you all make to this community.

So thank you!

Well, since I got busted, sitting here in the back and not commenting, I guess I’ll speak up and say, “Hey!” As a cancer patient, I don’t get out much anymore and I LIVE on the internet. I just recently discovered your blog and am still exploring it & enjoying it very much. :) I’m grateful for your interesting, informative, and funny posts. Thank you. Okay, back to lurk mode.

  4. Jo-Lynne, sorry to hear about your “extended” invisalign treatment, but at least they aren’t “braces-braces”, lol. :)
I think it’s safe to say we are all thankful for you too! :)
    Have a beautiful day.

Thanks for taking part in the gratitude challenge! I’m working on it as well but your writing is so much better than mine…does serve as a great model however since it has been so long since I’ve tried to write anything meaningful outside of a grocery list.

    Inspired, THANKS!

  6. I really should make myself do the gratitude challenge – love this post.

Aren’t comments like gold? Well, I’m grateful you have such a fabulous blog that you share funny stories on so I can have a little chuckle to myself in the middle of the day :) So thanks!

  8. It is my pleasure to be one of your readers. Days like those are killers, and yet right now, as I sit here missing my sons who are far away in San Diego, I think of all the times I didn’t make it to the pool this summer and wish I could just make it happen like magic.

I just finished invisalign – about 3 months ago – and you are SO lucky to have an orthodontist that will do that! I lost a tray once and mine charged me $200 for new impressions!!! Be grateful for your awesome orthodontist and the extra $200 in your pocket!

  10. Oh My Word on the invisilign. I know that was spelled incorrectly, but whatev.
I have to tell you that your teeth are bee-you-tiful in person, and I never would noticed anything was wrong or being worked on with them!
And my high school boyfriend showed up at our 10 year reunion with braces. A girl would have planned better. Granted- he works on capitol hill and is super successful, but BRACES? So, all my girls whispered in a question to each other, “invisilign??” come on…”. Yes. He could have done that- the respectable braces for adults. I think that should be their tagline. They can pay me later.

    Aww…thanks!

  12. This is weird(er than usual!) but I was thinking of my bloggy friends while shopping (child free) in Belfast.

I was in TK Maxx – so obviously thought of you, and this lady passed me on the UP escalator as I was going DOWN, and she had YOUR BAG over her shoulder. Yes, your bag, aka THE BAG! I briefly thought of chasing after her and asking did she know her/your bag was famous, and taking a pic of it, but thought better of it!

So there you go – a random bit of info to make your life complete, someone in Belfast, N Ireland has your bag :)

  13. Jo-Lynne says:

Janmary, GET OUT! That’s hilarious. Actually, I’ve had several people tell me they’ve seen my bag. I find it odd that I haven’t, but then, I don’t get out much, lol.

  14. Teri says:

And I am so grateful for you. Thank you for being such a blessing in my life.

  15. Suzanne says:

Some of you share my love of coffee and handbags, and some of you couldn’t care less.

Yum, love my coffee. Now, handbags, I couldn’t care less about. So, we do have something in common. That and I love your sense of humor. :-)

  16. Stephanie says:

    You’re welcome. :)

Isn’t the blogging community wonderful? We don’t have to all think alike, but we can still learn from each other and encourage each other just the same. I love that.
