2009 Recap

New-Years-CarnivalThis was so much fun the last two years that I decided to do it again and hold a carnival for anyone who wants to join me.

On this, the last day of 2009, I give you the first line of the first post of every month.

JANUARY

I know, New Years Resolutions are so yesterday.

This post is about, wait for it… last year’s New Years resolutions.  You weren’t expecting that at all, were you?

I got a good laugh reading back through my last year’s resolutions.  If I learned anything from this post, it’s that making New Years resolutions is pretty much a guarantee that you will keep none of them.  So with that law of nature in mind, this year I resolve to eat tons of sugar and simple carbs.  There, now.  Let’s see if that works.

FEBRUARY

Yesterday I was reminded of the kind of parent I USED to be — back when I had one child and I was determined to do everything right.

This post was certainly interesting to re-read.  (More so for me than for you, I’m sure.)  This line really stuck out to me — My other two children never acted like this, and I’m pretty sure it has more to do with ME than with HER.

I’m not so sure about that line any more.  At this point, I firmly believe that each child has a distinctively different personality, and it’s my job to figure out how to best parent each based on their individual strengths and weaknesses.  This parenting gig is a constant learning process, is it not?

MARCH

This morning my husband and I were both in our bathroom — I was putting the finishing touches on my makeup, and I suppose he was tying his tie or something — when we heard the howl of our temperamental 3-year-old.

I thought this was a riot, in light of February’s first post.  There is certainly an overriding theme among the posts of 2009.

APRIL

I’m feeling better already.

Last winter was a tough one, emotionally, and this post reminded me of that.  Here’s hoping this winter isn’t as much of a struggle.

MAY

Did someone say denim?

This post is all about ways to wear a denim jacket, complete with pictures.  I got a lot of positive feedback on this post.

Because it’s my blog, and I make the rules, I had to also include the next post from May 2009.  I forgot all about this post until I re-read it tonight, and it brought tears to my eyes.  Oh how I wish I could keep this perspective every single day of my life.  The post was titled Beautiful, and the first line went like this:

A few weeks ago, my daughter took it upon herself to create this.

If you only click on one of these links to previous posts, make it that one.  It’s a goodie.

JUNE

I don’t know about you, but May kicked my trash.

Did I mention that the winter of 2009 was a rough one?  Yeah.  Okay.  This post cracked me up.  It’s just one of those “day in the life” posts that is fun to go back and read.

JULY

There’s No Place Like Home… Especially when you forget to bring sheets to your vacation rental home.

As it turned out, we had a pretty good vacation, rain not included.  But it did get off to a bit of a rough start.

AUGUST

She Came, She Saw, She Laughed, She Cried, She Spoke… And she did it all in a great pair of shoes.

I had SUCH a good time at She Speaks last year.  I survived my first speaking engagement, although I have yet to listen to the CD of my session that they sent me.  Some things you’d just rather not know.

It was so much fun reconnecting with so many blogging friends and meeting new ones.  Reminiscing makes me all giddy with excitement over going to Blissdom in just four short weeks.  SQUEEE!!!

Oh, and did you see this?

Can I say it just one more time?  SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

SEPTEMBER

This week I’ve learned a few things:

This post is 23 for the price of one. Not only do you get to hear what I learned one week back in September of 2009, thanks to MckLinky, you can see what 22 other people learned as well.  You know, if you have unlimited time to waste today and were in need of some good reading material.

OCTOBER

I’m cheating.  The first post of October was a whine fest, so I will link to the second.  You are welcome.

Last night my husband paused the movie we were watching (more on that in another post) to inform me that he thought I should do a blog post on what I eat for a week.

Not that hearing what I ate for a week last fall is much better than reading my whine fest, but hey.  It’s all I’ve got.  Take it or leave it.

NOVEMBER

I’m about to start an insurrection against the “new math” they’re using in schools these days.  Who’s with me?

I still stand by this statement.  SHEESH.

DECEMBER

This week I learned that I can control a mild asthma attack with breathing exercises.

Oh I’m just a hoot and a holler, aren’t I?  I wish I had a more entertaining post to end with, but what can you do?

I’d love to read your 2009 recap.  Please leave a link to your recap post, not to your main blog page.  And I do ask that you link back to this post from your recap post.  The button is optional.

And with that, I’m taking a blogging break for the weekend.  Happy New Year!

Maybe it is just me, or my computer, but I am having issues going back to the previous years and reading those posts. I have only been reading for about a year, and would love to read the “beginning”, but they aren’t loading for me… *bummed*

    Love your posts now though!

  2. What?! Tomorrow is the last day of the year! I’m going to play though…

  3. Jenn says:

The inking was a pain but it was fun to look back over my year.

  4. Amy Bayliss says:

Oh my… isn’t it fun to reminisce? Loved the post about the “glued together junk”. That one was definitely worth a re-read!

  5. Your first lines are so entertaining! You had lots of great posts! Thanks for letting us look back through the year and link up. Happy New Year!

  6. Terra says:

Oh, that was fun! I might tryto do this if my indians don’t wake up in the 20 minutes!!!

  7. Jamie says:

So much fun to look back at 2009!
    Happy New Year!

  8. oh amanda says:

I have been meaning to talk to you for days about your Blissdom gig! Which session will you be in! SO EXCITED for you! You deserve it! :)

  9. I love your daughter’s creation and the whole story! So true! And I cannot believe that Blissdom is only 4 weeks away!!! YAAAYYY! We’ll have to hang out again soon! Can’t wait!!

  10. nicole says:

I’m not sure if I’m going to do this yet–seems like a lot of work. But then, I have nothing better to do (or nothing that I want to do anyway).

  11. Loved your review – I enjoyed doing this on my blog last year. Have done it a bit differently this year, but hope you have a moment or two to pop over and have a look.

Happy New Year from across the pond!

  12. Emily B says:

Happy New Year, Jo-Lynne! I loved this post, and I loved getting to post mine. So much fun to look back!

  13. Carol says:

I just came across your blog today and love it! I posted my link too! Hope you have a very happy new year!

  14. Happy New Year! I remember so many of your post from the past year – especially the new math post. Going though the same thing.

  15. Holly says:

Okay, this was loads of fun–even though it was also like shining a BIG spotlight on some of my faults (not following through with things, consistent exercise…blah, blah, blah). Blogs are a great reflection of our lives, aren’t they?

Hope 2010 is a blessed year for you and your family!!

    Happy New Year!

  16. Jolanthe says:

So funny that I missed this last year {although I did it then}. I had posted mine last night…and someone told me you were doing this, so I joined up. :)

    Happy New Year!

  17. Kathleen says:

Enjoyed reading over your 2009! Wishing you a happy new year full of the richest blessings!

  18. Kathy C. says:

Those were fun to re-cap my friend. Some I remember reading, others I must have missed and enjoyed catching on this second go-round…I especially liked the one about denimn jackets…you are the savvy dresser, ain’t ya? :)
    Happy New Year!

  19. These are always so much fun. Thank you for hosting this year. Have a wonderful 2010!

  20. Terra Heck says:

Thanks for the Blog Recap Carnival. It was fun to participate and recall what I’ve posted about since starting my blog in May. I laughed hard at your November post. It’s something that most parents would like to add to their child’s homework.
It is hard for me to help my kids with their math because they do it way different than I did in school. It’s a whole different concept than what I’m used to.

  21. Joyful says:

I enjoyed reading through your blog recap.
The art project is really sweet.
Thanks for doing to recap. It was fun.

  22. Fiddledeedee says:

Brilliant. Very fun idea. I’ll get to work on it and hopefully be back to link on Monday. Because I’m always fashionably late. :)

  23. angie says:

wow I missed out but here is mine if interested http://shopannies.blogspot.com/2010/01/year-in-review-of-annies-home.html

  24. Thanks for the link-up! Wow, you sure did get a lot of stuff done last year, didn’t you? =) Here’s looking at another great year! =)

  25. Fiddledeedee says:
  26. Better late than never, right? LOL! I just finished up my 2009 recap post and wanted to share. It was quite therapeutic for me to go back through it. Some I’d forgotten all about.

So looking forward to seeing you at BlissDom in a few weeks!!
