Every year I look forward to the day after Thanksgiving when I dust off the Christmas music playlist on my iPod and fill the house and the car with glorious Christmas music for the month of December.
But this year I discovered that after a day or two of listening to my Christmas playlist, I was tired of it. Only a few songs seemed fresh and enjoyable, and I realized it is because most of my Christmas music dates back to my college days. I’ve added a few songs here and there over the years, but for the most part, I’ve been listening to the same 50 songs for the past 20 Christmases.
So I was delighted when I was offered a copy of Yancy’s Have a Fancy Yancy Christmas DVD.
This is EXACTLY what I needed to spice up my Christmas playlist this year. In fact, I haven’t listened to anything else since I received the DVD in the mail. It’s been playing in my car nonstop for days, and there is not a single song that I don’t enjoy. I like the mixture of traditional Christmas carols and original numbers, two written by Yancy herself. Most of all, I love Yancy’s sound. She’s edgy and fresh and fun, and this album is a great addition to any Christmas music collection.
Last year I made a list of my Top 10 Favorite Christmas Songs. I don’t think I would change much this year, except that I would surely swap out a few for some of Yancy’s.
What are your favorite Christmas songs? I’d love to add a few more new ones to my Christmas playlist, so don’t be shy. Shout ‘em out!

My all-time Christmas favorite (which I posted about today – great minds think alike, obviously) is All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey. I know it’s cheesy and overdone – but I love it and it’s just my Christmas song.
And in fact I enjoy her whole entire holiday album – and the 2nd best song is probably “Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child”.
The best Christmas song ever is Oh Holy Night by John Berry. No other version compares. Download, close your eyes and worship!
It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year” by Andy Williams……
There’s a new JACKSON 5 Ultimate Christmas collection on iTunes. seems super fun!

I rave about it every year, so surely you have “Here With Us” by Joy Williams by now?
Recent additions for me include “Ring the Bells” by Travis Cottrell, “Silent Night” by Taylor Swift, and I don’t remember what else. I like traditional songs with more modern arrangements. Mercy Me has some great versions of classics like “Little Drummer Boy,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” and so on. Their original song, “Joseph’s Lullaby” is great too. Casting Crowns has a Christmas album I think, and I like their overall sound.
Happy listening!
Jessica Simpson’s version of Hark the Herald Angels Sing…it’s kinda gospelly and just great. (Shocking, I know but apparently that gal can really sing!)
My top 2 albums right now (and also last year) are:
Josh Groban’s “Noel” (he has a duet with Faith Hill that is FABULOUS) and Third Day’s “Christmas Offerings” (Mac Powell’s sound is like no other!)
Others I enjoy:
Harry Conick Jr
Point of Grace
and anything by a good symphony orchestra–there’s one in particular that I love, but can’t remember their name, and I haven’t pulled it out of my stash yet.
