As I said, my gift guide is very personal this year — all things we love, things we want, or things we are buying for people, so I’m including several items from my husband’s Amazon Wish List for this post.
If you have a photographer-wannabe living under your roof as I do, any of the digital photography books by Scott Kelby should be a sure hit. From what I understand, they are very easy to read and follow, even for the very amateur photographer, and the advice is excellent.
Not only is my husband an aspiring photographer, he is also an aspiring guitarist. This Intellitouch PT1 Tuner made his wish list, and I thought it might be a helpful gift idea for someone else.
My husband always complains about dry hands, and I always tell him if he’d wear gloves, it would help a lot. There is NOTHING like a nice glove, for man or woman. I saw these in an email I got from Saks, and I know they’re extravagant, but don’t they look DIVINE? Oh hey, they’re on sale for a mere $136. I can hear my husband croaking all the way from the office. (Don’t worry, Dear, I won’t be buying these.)
For the man who travels, I thought this travel-ready alarm clock was pretty nifty. And this Saks purchase is actually quite affordable. My dad always asks to borrow an alarm clock when he comes to my house to visit. If I thought he’d actually bring it with him, I’d get this for him.
My husband absolutely loves his Leatherman. He carries it with him everywhere he goes, and it comes in handy at the most unexpected times. This all-in-one tool makes a great gift for the DIY guy (or gal.)
So this gift could be for him or her, but I’m putting it in the For Him section because we were going to get one for my FIL before he went out and bought one for himself. You can’t go wrong with a GPS by Garmin. Well, unless they already have a navigational device of some sort. My mom gave one to me for Christmas last year, and I love it. I did a thorough review here.
If you REALLY want to spoil him, I hear the PlayStation 3 is phenomenal. We have PS2 and Wii, so we won’t be investing in the PS3 anytime soon, but it sure would be nice to have the Blu-Ray. Our current DVD player was the $30 model from Target, and it leaves quite a lot to be desired.
I always struggle the most with buying for the men in my life, especially the fathers. What about you? What are you getting for the men on your list this year?

the PS3 is AWESOME!! my husband got that this christmas and two of my brothers have them as well and love them. we love our wii, but all the really cool “grown-up” games are all on PS3.
as for me, i LOVE the blu-ray!!! it really is amazing!!!
Can’t speak to highly of Scott Kelby – love anything of his – borrowed his one on the iphone from the library.
I actually want that book for ME! I’ve heard such good things about it!
Steph
Thanks for the great ideas! I have been racking my brain for something for my husband. He’s the kind of guy who’s very technical and picky about stuff. And also, he tends to go out and buy things when he wants them instead of waiting for Christmas.
The camera book is a great idea and also the GPS (if I can make it fit into the budget!). That might have to be a mommy AND daddy gift.
Merry Christmas!
No idea what I’m getting Husband. I want to get him thoughtful gifts, but he is a hard man to shop for. I can always go to the faithful college gear that he loves, but I want to be more creative. I’m in a bind.
My hubs is a coffee geek and has everything from french press to vacuum pots. I ordered him an italian stove top espresso pot, and it just arrived today. It’s small and affordable. I also scored a blu-ray dvd player at Walmart for only $78! Last year my dad got a small record player. He pulled out all his old albums and had a ball with it.
Husband and I don’t exchange gifts and my Dad is so difficult to buy for. If he sees it and wants it, he gets it.
Plus his birthday is the day after Christmas (and Mom and Dad’s anniversary is that same week).
In short, this yesr Husband has ordered for Dad a 71-one piece Snap-On tool set that Dad mentioned he wanted.
And I’m sure that we’ll throw in something John-Deereish, too.
I like how you have the yearly gift guide. My husband is really hard to buy for. He’s one of those people who doesn’t want or need much. Hope you’re doing well!
I just signed up for Twiter. I realize I have nothing to say all of a sudden.
I think our husband’s must be related – they sound SO much alike!
Thanks for the ideas. My husband already bought himself a new lens for his camera, but a photography book might be good. Or a tuner for his banjo. Yes, banjo. He’s such a dork!
PS3 and the Multi Tools are GREAT Ideas!
I am all about saving money!
When it came to my boyfriends birthday I wanted to get him something fashionable without breaking the bank…
I don’t know if you have ever heard of Nixon watches ( http://www.nixonwatchesnow.com ), but they have a TON of really great styles for men and women under $100!
Good luck!
