Merry Christmas from Sharpie!

This contest is closed.  The winning number is…109.  That’s Leanne K.  Congrats, Leanne!

Remember when there was just one kind of Sharpie?  It was gray with a black cap, and it came in black ink ONLY.  Then they came out with the fine tip.  Now they make Sharpies in every color of the rainbow, in every kind of tip imaginable, baby Sharpies, fancy aluminum Sharpies with replaceable ink cartridges…  You name it; if it’s a pen, Sharpie makes it.

Just look at what they sent me.

sharpies

How cute is that?  A festive ball ornament full of different kinds of Sharpies.

And like the pens, when it comes to uses for the Sharpie, the possibilities are endless.

If I was craftsy, which I most certainly am not, but if I was, I might do something like create flower pot bell ornaments for the tree using Sharpie paint markers.  You could color small terra-cotta flowerpots and let them dry.  In fact, I might just have to go to the craft store and pick up some of those flowerpots and set my 7-year-old daughter free with the Sharpies one afternoon.  She’d have a ball.  Heh.  Get it?  A ball.  Ahem, sorry.

Or you could create your own wrapping paper.

Or make your own holiday cards or thank you cards.

They make great gifts too.  Just place an assortment of Sharpies in a large soup can covered in plain white paper and decorated with Sharpie markers. Wrap it up, top with a festive bow and there you have it — the perfect gift for your child’s teacher or babysitter.

Oh and hey.  Sharpie wants to award one of my lucky readers with their very own ornament of Sharpies. I KNOW!  Fun, huh?  Just tell me in the comments how you would use your ornament o’ Sharpies, and you are entered to win.  And for an extra entry, you can tweet about the contest using the hashtag #sharpie.  (Be sure to leave a 2nd comment that you tweeted it, so you get two entries!!)  I will randomly select a winner on Saturday, December 12.

THEN. Blissfully Domestic is hosting contest where participants can show off their Sharpie-inspired creations and enter to win a $250 gift card. Feel free to use one of my suggestions above, or create your own.  Then you will need to upload a picture of your creation onto the contest post, or you can write a post on your blog and link up.  I’ll update this post with a link to the contest when it goes live tomorrow.  The winner will be drawn by random number.

This post is part of a Blissful Media campaign.

  5. Emily E. says:

I LOVE me some Sharpies. :D We are currently *trying* to move, so I would use the sharpies for box labeling!

  6. Jamie says:

All of Maggie’s preschool stuff gets labeled with a Hot Pink Sharpie. Hot Pink used to be her color!! The hot pink sharpie also labeled our moving boxes and it gets used on the boxes of old baby clothes that Ellie’s getting too big far. I HEART SHARPIES!

  7. My daughter LOVES the little bitty Sharpies, so I’d definitely stuff some in her stocking.

I keep a couple in my junk drawer in my kitchen and use them to label kitchen stuff — foil in the freezer, other dishes etc.

That’s not very creative, but believe me — when my tween gets a hold of them — they are put to creative use.

  8. Ms. M says:

I love multicolored markers– especially sharpies! I don’t actually own any sharpies right now (a post-college, move to blame) so I would use them for lots of labeling CD/DVDs for Christmas mixes :)

    Thanks for hosting, JoLynne!

  9. Annalise says:

i use sharpies for everything! i would use the colored sharpies to make plant markers for my garden by writing the herb and plant names on flat rocks. my granddaughter made me one that said “LOVE” on on side and she drew a ladybug on the other side. i know these would look great in my garden.

    beth B. (mom to Michael)

I would give it to my school teacher daughter for Christmas! She has always loved pens, sharpies and markers and would put them to delightful uses…

  20. Amy says:

I LOVE sharpies. We use them for body art. The girls get a kick out of it, and it only last a couple of days (fewer in the summer when they are swimming). Here are some samples… http://www.singingandspinning.com/2008/08/bugs-new-body-art.html and http://www.singingandspinning.com/2008/08/now-for-dives-body-art.html.

Also, I use a sharpie whenever we go to a place that is going to be really crowded with a lot of kids. I write my contact information and name on their bellies.- that way, if they get lost and are freaking out, they don’t need to remember my cell phone. Better safe than sorry:)

  21. is it wrong to say I would keep them for myself? I am a substitute teacher and these come in sooo handy…you might say I am a Sharpie addict…is there a 12 step program for that?

  22. Sara says:

I would use them to label all our Christmas gifts and home made goodies. Sorry I am not crafty either or I would make something sweet and adorable. I do bake though and could use them to label the yummies!

  23. Sara says:
  24. Amy says:

My husband won my love in college, using his Sharpies, the basic red, blue, green, and black. I remember how every love note smelled like Sharpies – now that’s romance! I’ll plan to share them with him, and maybe we can recapture the romance!

  30. Wanda says:

This may sound totally crazy….but Sharpies make me squeal! I love them! I get so excited when I open a new package of them.
They ROCK! And that cute ornament……awesome!

My teenage daughter loves them just the same. We feel warm and fuzzy over them. Weird, I know!

  31. Gretchen says:

I would NOT let my kids get their hands on them. Last time I had sharpies they “decorated” the front of my fridge. I have missed them terribly. I would use them to create newspaper gift wrapping paper, and hubby would use them to mail what he sells on ebay:)

  32. Cute idea – that would make a cute teacher gift but might have to keep them for myself. I love Sharpies!

  33. I LOVE SHARPIES!!! It’s the only thing I write with. And the Sharpie retactable pen is my all time favorite pen ever!! Everytime I turn around I have to buy a new pack because one of my friends will pick it up to use it and walk off with it…lol! Once you use it there just isn’t any other pen that will do.

  38. Lauren says:

I use sharpies for most anything–but especially decorating, drawing and labeling!

  39. I signed my Christmas cards with fine tip red and green sharpies depending on the cover of the card. I have two in my purse at this very moment and I also use them to color code my calendar. The color I use for the month depends on the cooresponding picture. My OCD will not allow it any other way! I so hope I win this give-away. I LOVE LOVE LOVE, Sharpies. In other words, I triple love sharpies!!!

  40. mzzterry says:

My name is Terry and I am a Sharpie addict.
    Yep.
I have been since I used my first black sharpie all those many years ago.

But, my very favorite use for a Sharpie is to write my favorite Bible verses on the mirrors in my house. (yes, It comes off easily. Just wipe away with Nail polish remover). This is a cool give away, I love reading everyones comments!

  41. Andrea says:

I LOVE Sharpies! Once, a few years ago, they had a commercial that showed a white one, and I have been looking for it ever since. It must of just been for the commercial!

My husband is in the process of starting his own balloon animal twisting company for parties and events! Thanks!

I would use these for decorating brown craft paper! Thanks for the chance to win…love SHARPIE!!

  73. Jody Marquardt says:

I would love to use these when freezing items! I could use one color for chicken, a different color for pork, another for venison, etc, so I could quickly pick something with just a glance instead of having to sort through, read everything and try to keep my hands warm in the process! Could even go as far as using another color for diced frozen veggies because once they are frozen, it can be hard to tell them apart! I have a vacuum sealer and I dice fresh veggies then freeze them with it- love it, and would love a simpler way to label them!

I have a confession. I think Sharpies are beautiful. I have a container on my desk JUST for Sharpies. In fact, I think they look so nice just sitting there that I hate to use them and waste them thus having throw part of my rainbow of Sharpies away. I’d be half tempted to just hang that gorgeous ornament right on the tree!

But I would not. I vow to start using my Sharpies more. I decided we were going to color our gift wrap for our out of town family. Might be more special when the wrapping is decorated by my daughter!

    thanks for the chance :)

  128. Right now I have a love/hate relationship with Sharpies. Love them because I use them to label clothes, freezer food, and used one today to label son’s bagged lunch for a field trip. “Where’s my Sharpie” is a question that I ask in my house quite often, unfortunately. When I’m asking that question, the anxiety level is rising, but hoping for no major catastrophe. One day, my hope vanished when I saw that the 3 year old, Molly, had found the blue Sharpie and decorated the 3 day old living room furniture with a Sharpie. Up and down and all around the couch and ottoman we go!

  129. Jessie C. says:

I’d use them to label and make cards! How fun!

Guess I’m not the only Sharpie addict out there! :-)
As a crafter, wife and mommy, the Sharpie is one of my “power tools”! Decorating and labeling bags and boxes of the homemade holiday treats I make and give every year would be one of their first assignments.
And I find my hubby has a harder time ignoring any reminder notes I leave next to the coffepot when they’re written with a bold, black Sharpie.

  132. Stephanie says:

I would definitely make my own wrapping paper

  133. Ronda C. says:

I have loved Sharpies ever since I saw Julia Roberts coloring in her boots with one in Pretty Woman. Just kidding Sharpies have a million uses and I had no idea they made so many colors now.

  134. Heather Cressman says:

I LOVE labeling everything with Sharpies having 3 kids and all. Allthough I need to hide them from them because they love them as well and I DO NOT LOVE when they draw on my things that shouldnt be drawn on :( So I hide my Sharpies and they can use them under strict supervision :)

  135. Jennifer says:

I love Sharpies, what wouldn’t I use them on. The only problem I have now is making sure the kids don’t get a hold of them….

  136. Amanda says:

Part of my job is visiting conflict areas and educating teachers, children and parents about non-violence. The markers would travel with me! If one thing is univiersal, despite politics and religion, everyone loves to sit down and color a great picture!

  137. Michele says:

I would give it to my daughter who is obsessed with sharpies and let her do whatever her heart desires! lol!
    thanks, great giveaway!!! :)

  138. Andrea says:

  139. Dani McGarry says:

  141. Stacey says:

I work with the children at church during our singing time – these would come in handy with making posters and coloring things that I do to keep the kids pleased and entertained while we learn new songs together! :) Thanks for the entry!

  142. Sherr says:

I would use them to label stuff, for lesson planning and Bible study. I would also have to hide them from my kids.

  143. Ginny says:

I am a Sharpie addict, I use them all the time. Mainly for labeling & shipping, but also craft projects~

  144. Sharpies rock for fun homemade ornament decorating, garage sale posters and most importantly… writing an L on the bottom of your 3 yaer old’s shoe.. teaching him to make and L with his left hand so that he can ALWAYS get his shoes on the correct feet ;)

  145. Daniel says:

I would use these around the house!

  146. Shawn C says:

I lOVE LOVE LOVE sharpies! I love to use lots of colors for my color-coded family calendar, the sharpie fine points are great for that! I lOVe the ornament idea, so cute! I would use sharpies to do our holiday scrapbooks, labeling all my kids’ new books, video games, etc., and for labelling the gifts after wrapping!
