The dust has settled.
The crumbs have been swept.
Christmas carols have been sung.
The gifts have been relegated to their respective rooms.
The toy box has been emptied to make room for the new.
Family members have returned home.
Egg nog has been consumed.
Cookies have been eaten in massive amounts.
We will have one more Christmas celebration with my side of the family later this week, and then another Christmas will have come and gone.
2009 is on its way out, and 2010 is a blank slate with its comedies and tragedies yet to be lived.
A poet I am not, but I’m feeling rather reflective tonight. Care to join me? What was the best and the worst of 2009? What are you most looking forward to in 2010?
On Thursday I will be posting my annual Year End Recap where I find the first line of the first post of each month of the past year and publish it as a new blog post. Anyone care to join me?
I’ll put up a MckLinky on Thursday, January 31 for anyone who wants to join in. To see exactly what I mean, you can peek at the ones I did the last two years.
Also. There will be no What I Learned This Week on Tuesday. We will be back in full swing next week so be thinking about what you’re learning throughout this week and get your post ready to link up on Tuesday, January 5th!

Not feeling too reflective (yet!) but I am sure I will soon.
I enjoyed doing the recap of the year with the first line etc last year.
It is hard to believe that 2009 is almost over. This has been such a year, one that I am ready to move on from.
I like it when you do the first line thing. I just went and looked at mine and got terribly bored – LOL! I notice that I write little intros to my posts like I’m writing an essay or something. Might have to work on that in 2010!
I definitely need to get more organized in 2010! Of course, I say that every year but maybe this will be the one!
Hope you had a blessed Christmas – looks like it was fun!
I liked your post tonight, Jo-Lynne– I’m feeling very contemplative too!
The worst part of 2009 was my mom getting diagnosed with end-stage lung disease, but on the flip side, my best part of 2009 is that I’ve gotten to fly back to Minnesota every other month and be with her!
What’s your best and worst?
Lets just say 2009 bit the big one here in my house. So I am happy to bid it farewell. Here’s looking forward to bigger and better things to come in 2010!!
Mrs. M — good question. I thought on it and decided I couldn’t decide, lol. Perhaps I’ll come up with something in the a.m.
2009 was a hard year here at the McResidence. First, a very good friend of mine died in a head-on car crash in January. Then, McDaddy left for a 6-month deployment in February. So, yeah, it was pretty tough. I’m hoping for a MUCH BETTER 2010. I may have to look into that year end recap post thingie.
I’m looking forward to 2010 and will gladly leave 2009 behind with plenty of memories, good and bad. I’m excited for plans we have for our family but I admit that I’m worried about where the country is going and what lies ahead.
Your idea of the first line of each post each month sounds fun. I may have to do that! That could be interesting.
HUGS to you girlfriend. And I too ate WAY to many cookies!
Kim
Dang, you’ve cleaned up already? We’re still awash in gifts on the living room floor. I can’t reflect about anything until this mess is cleaned up!
LOL, well, we had to clean up b/c we had company on Saturday. But our Christmas decorations are all still up.
Best of 2009 – Moving away from Houston, TX to Columbia, SC.
Worst of 2009 – Moving away from Houston, TX to Columbia, SC.
We loved living in Houston and miss our friends there terribly. But, we’re so glad to be closer to our family and finally feeling settled. We were able to celebrate this Christmas with both sides of our family and it was crazy hectic, but so worth it!
I’ve seen a Facebook App that puts together a year’s worth of status updates. I bet that would be a pretty interesting blog post, too.
Here’s to 2010!
What a neat idea for an end of the year recap! I just started some “Best of 2009″ posts, but this sounds fun!
What an awesome idea!
I am on this like white on rice sister.
Now to find the time to do this w/o my dh asking me when I am getting off the “stupid computer”. Ha!
Sounds like fun! I may just have to join you.
2010 is already so busy for us that I feel like it’s almost over before it’s begun. You have no idea.
The best of 2009 was getting my health back on track so I can stop obsessing about dying. The worst of 2009 is watching our country’s politicians (I’m holding our Congress people responsible here) once again NOT representing the people but Corporate America. That’s all I’m going to say about that.
Love the idea! I’ll put my thinking hat on. Oh, and I want to see your new ring! Wear it tomorrow night!!
Sarah
This a great idea. Planning on linking up!
Oh, yeah! I love this carnival!
I love the bloggy button. I’ll be joining in for sure! =)
I am ready to usher out 2009 and begin 2010. Ready for a new roller coaster ride to begin. And once again hang on for the ride of my life while my hands are up in the air and I am screaming!! Happy New Year!!!
This is a definite YES from me.
I’m feeling the contemplation too. Not feeling particularly funny – just peaceful. Its a good feeling.
Happy Holidays!
Cathy
The best thing that has happened in 2009 is the ongoing opportunity to spend time with our children (4 young single adults) after moving to Dallas, TX. They live in 4 different states, and it is no small feat trying to get together, but we were all in Orlando for Thanksgiving and all here in D for Christmas…even the grandparents.
I love Christmas but I also can’t wait till it ends…when we return home on Thursday we will ring in the new year with friends then the tree will come down, the stocking tucked away the garland stuffed in tubs and the house will return to some sense of normalcy and I cant wait!!!
Sounds like a lot of fun! I’m going to play along… so long as I remember
