From a Sow’s Ear — Fat Head.
Fed Up: School Lunch Project. I just discovered this blog and it focuses on what I think is our biggest nemesis on the fight against the rising diabetes and obesity rates — the disturbing state of the school lunch program.
And along those lines, did you realize that the CDC now states that “1 in 3 children will develop Type II Diabetes in their lifetime?” Read the whole article at The Huffington Post. Y’all. We MUST change the way we feed our children in this country.
*steps delicately off soapbox*
And in the home renovation category, did you see this bathroom makeover at Young House Love? Divine. I don’t know which part is my favorite — that gorgeous sink and vanity or the reglazed bathtub and subway tile? And I’m in awe over the open linen closet. Let’s just say, no one would want to see inside MY linen closets. But kudos to them if they can keep it that orderly.

Thank you for specifying type II diabetes in your post. Two of my boys have type I. There is such a big publicity push for type II awareness and prevention that we often run across people who are judgmental about what might have caused their diabetes. I sometimes want to shout from the rooftops, “Type I is NOT CAUSED BY DIET!”
Ah yes, big difference.
Do you have a place where you keep all of your recipes? Now that I’m slowing stepping into the real food movement I want to go back and see some of the things that you’ve made.
Candace, yes, they should all be labeled “Tried and True Recipes” and there is a Category bar on the sidebar with a drop down menu. You can find them all there. Some of the old ones aren’t as nutritious, but even they can be altered a bit to include all whole foods.
I like the quote you pulled. Have you seen the previews for the new TV series ‘Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution’? If not, here’s the link. It looks amazing!

Young House Love is such an inspiring blog, isn’t it? I like stopping in there.
But I have to say…my linen closet was supremely organized pre-kids too.
I too am concerned with the school lunch programs. IMHO, not enough protein and whole grains, and too much salt and fat. I wrote an article on my blog about feeding an overweight child. Keeping the healthy foods going in the kids is so hard today with everything being offered to them in school, parties, etc!
