1. The next time I decide to bypass my technical team and install a new WordPress theme and delve into code all on my own, I should probably plan to go crawling back and beg for help when a portion of my regular readers can only see 2/3 of my blog.
2. I should also stock up on necessities, such as wine and chocolate.
3. And I should be prepared to spend several days without seeing my family. Note to self: the computer is not nearly as warm and cuddly as the children.
4. When my 4-year-old wakes up at 11PM with that “tell-tale cough,” she doesn’t appreciate it when I rush her to the bathroom and stand her over the toilet begging her to “put it in the potty” because I’m convinced that the tummy bug is about to hit our home, when in fact, it is not the tummy bug at all.
5. I may be a little bit paranoid about getting the tummy bug, considering that I mistook a croup cough for the pre-puke cough.
6. When a child wakes up sick at 11PM, whether it is the tummy bug or the croup, I’m in for a l-o-o-o-o-ng night.
7. And a groggy morning.
8. When a child wakes up with the tummy bug croup at 11PM on a Monday night, I will probably still be writing my What I Learned This Week post. It would have been too simple to have the post written before the last possible minute.
Better late than never, right?
What did YOU learn this week?

My daughter does that weird little cough thing right before she throws up too!
Isn’t it THE WORST? Ugh. She was in the nursery on Sunday night, and the nursery worker admitted that her son had a horrid puke bug that day. I was so ticked. And last night, when I heard that cough, I was convinced she had it. Turns out to be croup, or something like it, and she’s still quite under the weather this morning. Poor kid, but I tell you, I’ll take this over puke ANY. DAY.
A cough, especially at night, immediately fills me with stomach bug dread, so I can understand your actions. I hope the croup is not too severe. I happen to have one at home who did throw up this morning, with no cough for a warning. Yuck.
Oh noes! Hope it’s short lived. And contained to that child. Ugh.
OH, I hope everyone feels better soon and you get some rest, girl!
First pink eye, now this. You are having a week already. Should I wear protective gear if I come visit?
Yeah, seriously. What’s up?? The pink eye was very mild and it was gone as soon as we started drops. No one else seems to be getting it. Phew!
I do worry about this thing R has though, b/c if D catches it, he will have asthma troubles. And I am going to NASHVILLE next week!
Hope R feels better soon. And thank goodness it is not the stomach bug. Talk about close calls.
Thanks! She’s already perking up.
LOL! I used to be that parent that waited a little too late to rush to ‘that sound’ coming from the boys’ room. But then…oh my this is so gross…my oldest puked in my husbands mouth while he was trying to get him off the top bunk in time. UGH! Now ever sound I hear has me jumping up and running in there! No more sleep for me until they go away to college!
Omigosh. You are KIDDING. Until now, my biggest fear was waking up in the night to a kid puking on me. Now I have a new biggest fear. So um. Thanks? Heh.
I must know, did he catch the virus? Or did he manage to escape it despite the close, um, contact?
That was the frustrating part. He didn’t get sick…I DID! And I was hiding behind him! (I know…a bit wimpy, eh?)
LOL. Doesn’t that just figure?
I’m a bit of a germaphobe around children, I hate being sick and being around people who are sick. It’s one of the few times I’m happy not to have children, I get sick less.
Oh gosh, I HATE that cough. When she slept with us David would jump and grab a towel or a blanket or whatever and get it under her before it got on the bed. I don’t know what we’ll do if/when it hits now.
Ugh – sick croupy kids
I hate the sound of that cough – my 10 and 5 year old still get it – I keep waiting for them to grow out of it – preferably before they leave for university!
Emily had that croupy cough a couple of weeks ago and as I thought she was getting better, it then turned in to a head cold with a horrible ear infection. The doc said the cold is kinda backwards with the cough starting before the runny nose. Hopefully that isn’t what R has. Just keep her away from D and he should be good. Alex never got it here. Good luck!
Honey, judging by the picture of your counter that you posted a couple (few?) weeks ago, you are definitely not out of wine.
Hope the kids feel 100% by next week.
Ha. It disappears fast around here, but fortunately I WAS stocked with said necessities.
Oh, girl…I never touch my WP theme- I always hand it off to my WP guru. You are brave and handled the matter with grace…I am impressed
This is totally off-topic! You mentioned recently about parsnips. I love them and have two recipes to share with you, my fellow health nut!
http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Hearty-Lentil-Soup/Detail.aspx
I am making this tonight, and I like it alot.
The other recipe is roasting parsnips and carrots together.
I couldn’t find the link so here goes-
2 lb. parsnips
2 lb. carrots
1/3 cup olive oil
2 tsp. each of salt, pepper, chopped fresh rosemary, chopped fresh sage
1/4 cup water
Quarter and cut veggies in 3/4 inch thick slices. Toss all ingredients in a bowl except for water. Spread in a large shallow baking pan and pour in water. Roast vegetables in lower third of oven until tender, 50-55 minutes.
I probably have broken some kind of blog rule for posting this here, sorry!
Enjoy parsnips!!
LOL. No worries! No rules here.
I’ll try them out!
Oh no! You poor thing. The stomach bug isn’t fun, and neither is croup.
Hope she’s better soon.
That cough is just nasty! I hate the sound of it. I hope she is feeling better!
At least you got your post up! I haven’t even YET!
