Joey asks: I’d LOVE to now the specs on your hubby’s cam & mic.
Me: I actually get this question a lot. I had to email my husband to find out, and this is what he had to say:
We have the Canon Vixia HFS100. (My input: Be prepared for sticker shock. Most people don’t need a camera of that caliber.) My husband’s advice: If you’re looking for a camera, the key is to get HD. Don’t bother with any SD cameras anymore. Get something that records on solid state disk. Definitely don’t bother with digital tape, and and if you can afford it, don’t bother with internal hard drives. Go for something that takes flash cards or has internal solid state storage.
The Canon Vixia line is consistently rated near the top. However, what makes the best video is good lighting and sound. They are both as important (if not more important) than the camera.
For blogging purposes, a great option is the Kodak Zi8.
It’s less than $200, it’s small like a Flip cam, and it is HD. It’s also the only pocket cam to have the Audio Input jack, so that you can plug in a microphone. This is key to getting decent sound quality. Which leads me to our next piece of must-have vlogging equipment:
We use a cheap audio-technica wired lapel mic — the Audio-Technica ATR-35S.
And there you have it. Our 2 cents worth of advice.
