Swagbucks

Everyone everywhere is talking about Swagbucks.  Evidently you earn points by searching the web, and then you get to buy stuff.  I mean, who wouldn’t like that?  I’ve heard of people saving points all year and doing their Christmas shopping with it.  So I thought, what the heck.  I’ve got nothing to lose, right?

So far it works pretty well when I’m searching for something on the web, but the first few hits are usually ads, so if I have trouble finding what I want, I just go to Google, but I always give Swagbucks search a try first.  How’s that for a run-on sentence?

I installed the toolbar so I don’t forget to use it, plus that earns a few extra points.

Then you get points for referring people to Swagbucks so if you click on any of the links in this post or sign up through the button on my sidebar, I get a few points.  That’s just a win-win, wouldn’t you say?

Have you had success using Swagbucks?  I’d love to hear about it!

I’m using it too, but so far I am not earning much. Of course, that could be because I still use my bookmarks for all the blogs I read, and I think people who really get a lot actually type in addresses in the Swagbucks bar. Still, is is a relatively easy way to at least get a little bit.

I’m doing the same thing. I also have it automatically feed to Facebook whenever I win a point to generate interest. I think I get a referral for the people that sign up under me by clicking that link too. I didn’t ad the widget to my blog though because it just looks too big with my layout. I think it works way better with the two column layout you have on the right.

Husband and I both use Swagbucks. We usually save our points and get the $5 Amazon gift cards. I’ve already earned $50 worth of Amazon gift cards and I started using Swagbucks sometime around Thanksgiving.

For each referral, you will get one swagbuck for every swagbuck they earn up to 100. After that, you’re back on your own unless you can find another person to refer. =)

I do all my searches (and blog reading) by going to Swagbucks and putting in the name I want. If you’ve earned a point, it will be at least another hour before you win again so feel free to use your bookmarks during that time. I even put “google” in the swagbucks search if I can’t find what I’m looking for on swagbucks that way I get credit for one more search. =)

  4. I think I’ve earned $20 in Amazon cards and a $5 Alice card in the last couple of months. Not too bad for doing nothing (although this is not a business model I normally advocate:). The people that are making hundreds of dollars are doing so off their referrals. That’s why they mention it about once a month. Nothing wrong with that. Just saying, I don’t think it’s normal for people who just use it as their search engine to get that much. I’ve also noticed that the more I use it, the faster I earn that 1 swagbuck here and there. I’ve actually found it to work really well (compared to Google). I rarely use anything else now.

    Thanks for the great tips!

  6. I had not heard of this. I had heard of bing (I think it’s bing — one new search engine) that does a similar thing.

I might have to try it. . . . Through YOU of course if I do.

  7. I am trying to use it. I am a google addict so it is a struggle. Thanks for the tips! I have heard it can really pay off!

  8. I’m a Swagbucks addict! Love it! Just started late last year, but already have gotten some gift cards.
I’m saving to buy Christmas presents, just like you mentioned. They just changed things today and you get 10 and 20 bucks, it’s all relative cause the reward prizes are worth more points, but it seems better to get 10 bucks instead of 1.

  9. You always beat me to the punch! I saw this over at We are THAT Family and was thinking of giving it a shot. Keep me posted on what you think! I may go check it out and use your link of course.

I love Swagbucks!! I mostly redeem our bucks for restaurants.com gift certificates at restaurants we like. You can get a $25 certificate for 40 SB. Seriously. So occasionally we can enjoy a dinner out without feeling like we’ve totally blown our budget. I think right now though, I’m saving up for a Starbucks gift card. I think gift cards are the way to go for redemption. I’m the same way with my Pampers points.

I installed the Swagbucks toolbar several months ago…and have never used it. I can’t break the Google habit. ;)

If it ends up being lucrative for you, though, I want to hear about it. I could probably be convinced to give it a concerted effort…

    to stephanie,
when you install the swagbucks toolbar … where does it appear? does it show up on the desktop? casue i dont want it to..& if so , can you hide it?

    • Corina says:

It installs as a toolbar. If you want to hide it, just go to your VIEW button on your browser and uncheck Swagbucks. That way you still have it there if you want it but you don’t have to see it. Although if you don’t see it, you won’t use it and you won’t know when there is a code in the toolbar.

I have earned $110 in Amazon gift cards in the past year (less than a year really). I use them for Kindle books, exclusively. So each month, I buy a book from the kindle store and it’s free! Nice way to feed my reading habit!

  14. Hello!

Your site looks great! And judging by your Swidget, it seems like you’ve been doing pretty well in SwagBucks. :)
