This week I learned…
TO KNIT.
I have always thought it would be fun to knit, and I’ve watched my knitting friends with envy and a little bit of awe as their needles make that comforting clickety-clack sound and a ball of yarn is slowly transformed into gorgeous patterns and shapes. I’ve received knitted gifts from friends and seen them give knitted gifts to others and wished I had that skill to share.
Well, now I can do it too! Behold, my first scarf!
My mom was in town last weekend, and my 7-year old has been begging to learn to knit, so we went to A.C. Moore and bought us each a set of needles and a ball of yarn and went to work. The poor woman sat between us on the couch for two solid afternoons, helping us fix our dropped stitches and increased stitches and everything in between. And slowly those two balls of yarn were transformed into lovely scarves for my little girls. C made her own red one, and I made a purple one for R. Of course they were grumpy and wouldn’t pose with them for a photo. Ahh, the trials of a mom blogger.
I don’t know when I think I’m going to find time for another hobby, but at least now I can say I can knit!
What did YOU learn this week? You know the drill.

Knitting is on my list of things to try to learn. Well that was wishy washy, wasn’t it?! I would like to learn it. There, that was stronger.
I need to take a class. Great job!
Very Nice!! Is that a scarf for me??
It isn’t hard, and I love to do it while I just watch tv, so simple!
I’ve tried a couple times to knit and gave up. I just don’t have the time to sit and frustrate myself on purpose! LOL! I can crochet like a mad woman though. You did a great job.
Hugs

I love to knit – so much fun making something! Great job to you and your mom for having the patience!
Looks fantastic!
Love the colors!
I knit a Build-a-bear a scarf last week – about the limit of my knitting abilities!!!
Impressive! Can your Mom teach me next time she’s up?
My mom can cook, sew, can, and knit circles around me. Sometimes I feel like such a loser! I’ve always thought of taking up knitting, but never got around to it. Good for you–love the scarves!
I crochet and bead but I don’t knit. Both my grandmothers tried to teach me how to knit and gave it up as a lost cause…’cause I have two left thumbs! I think I’ll try it again now that I’m older. Some reason, my creativity is BETTER now that I’m older!
Welcome to the club! It is addicting. You’ll love it~
Looks great! I am no knitter – tried a few times but never found my skill set there!
Knitting is one of those things that scares me. I am not sure why it may be the many horrible failed attempts as a teen. I think I’ll conquor sewing first.
But that scarf looks amazing. Yep I am jealous! (you know that could be a nifty giveaway…just saying. ~_~)
Oh that is beautiful! I don’t know that I would have the patience to knit but I sure love the finished product.
That’s awesome! I intended to learn to knit this winter, but it didn’t happen. I want to make scarves.

Way to go! Last year we were snowed in and so I took up my needles and taught my self how to knit again after maybe 20 years. It was a blast!
Way to go!!! I “can” knit, but the efforts are woeful. I’d like to learn to crochet. Hopefully I can get together with our church’s knit & crochet group soon and someone will help me out!!
Looks great! My mother makes quilts and has passed technique on to me but now I am waiting for her to pass on her sewing machine as well! Happy knitting!!
Oh, I have always wanted to learn to knit. I just need to find the time. The colors are beautiful.
Your scarf looks great! I knitted my first project this week, too. It’s a washcloth. You can check it out on my blog. It didn’t turn out nearly as pretty as yours. In fact, my mother told me it looks a little used already
. I don’t yet know how to fix dropped stitches, so that could be part of the problem. However, I really enjoyed it and look forward to starting something new!
When I was teaching my girls (9 and 7) I had them literally knit one row…then I would knit one row (to make sure that there wasn’t a dropped stitch, or an added stitch). I re-taught myself how to crochet last week, and made a beanie! It felt awesome!
This is a huge accomplishment–along with discovering you are a runner in the SAME week!!
I think it’s great you and your daughter both learned–I wish I had learned when I was younger. I ended up taking a class at JoAnn’s because I didn’t know anyone personally that could teach me.
Love the colors in your yarn, which brand/color name is it?
I just started knitting over Christmas and have yet to finish the two scarves I’ve been working on. This post reminded me that I should probably get back to that. I love the yarn you chose, so colorful! I think it is great that you are doing it with your daughter too. Zoe wanted to give it shot, but I think I have to get a bit better before teaching her. Good luck with the knitting.
