Last week I totally missed the boat with the Idol recaps. I watched both shows a day after the fact, and it wasn’t until I saw Boomama’s Idol recap that I remembered that I was going to blog the show. I even missed the results show because, hello, SURVIVOR? Nuff said.
First of all I feel the need to weigh in on the whole Ellen-joining-Idol bit. I don’t think she necessarily adds anything new to the critiques, but I have always loved her sense of humor, and I thoroughly enjoy her addition to the judging panel. And I don’t miss Paula one iota.
So with that out of the way, first up is Michael Lynch. Wow, this is a HUGE improvement over last week. This guy’s in it to win it. And I’m totally impressed with his experience in the arts as well as sports. Glee anyone?
John Park sings Gravity. Again, this is a huge improvement over last week, but I’m not sure he’s got what it takes to make it to the top 12. The judges seem to be in agreement. But can I just say that I hate it when Ryan questions the judges. They gave their 2 cents. Now move on, ‘k?
Casey James is breaking out the electric guitar tonight. I remember when Bo Bice sang this song; I have his version on my iPod. Ooooh, I like Casey’s ending. Up till that point it wasn’t doing much for me. Cara is right – the notes were off. The guitar playing was better than the vocals.
I feel so bad for Alex Lambert. Poor guy PUKES before every performance. One puking episode would cure me of singing in public for EVER. Little known fact: I used to sing solos but I eventually stopped because my nerves made it such a miserable experience. So when I watch this show, I secretly WANT to be up there, but I know I’d be totally puking in the bathroom before every show.
So I actually liked this performance right up until but not including that last note. Yowsas. But otherwise, I like the tone of his voice. It’s different, and he’s pure. HUGE improvement. SO happy for him.
Toddrick Hall is a cutie-patootie, but this music is so not my thing, I can’t even be objective. Randy is SO right. Just sing the ding-dang song already.
I’m not even sure of this guy’s name. I am so not into this performance. at. all. And um, he knows God? And everyone that knows God gets everything they want? Oh my lawsie, I have so much I want to say about that I don’t even know where to start so I won’t. Movingrightalong.
Andrew Garcia is singing… something about nothing. I’m nodding off, y’all. I need someone to come out here and give us a jammin’ rock and roll performance stat. I was expecting this guy to be a little bit more quirky and fun. But tonight he was so not.
Aaron Kelly is singing one of those songs that should be banned from American Idol forever and ever amen. The kid can certainly sing, but I wish he’d choose something more modern and… wait for it… relevant. Simon is so right. Sorry, Cara.
Tim Urban is the guy who didn’t make the original top 24, and last week Simon flat out told him he doesn’t deserve to be here, which makes me really want to see him succeed. I’m a sucker for an underdog, what can I say? Okay, so I am really liking this. It’s a great song choice, anyway. This should buy him another week for sure. And finally, a song from the 21st century, THANK. YOU. Okay, the judges are panning him but Simon is on my page. And did you hear it? RELEVANT. Heh.
If I had to put my money on someone to make it to the finals this year based on last week’s performances, it would be Lee Dewyse. I can’t wait to hear him again tonight, and I love this song, yippee.
Oooh, pitchy. ACK. Is it me or is the whole second half of the song off-pitch? I love his tone, he definitely has his own sound, and he’s sings my type of music, but yikes. I’m afraid I’m a bit disappointed.
Am I on a different planet? The judges love him although they all mention the pitch problems so I guess they can just overlook that. Seems to me that a requirement for a singing competition would be to sing in tune. Although do you remember Carrie Underwood? She sang so out of tune when she was on Idol. I remember I was so irritated when she won over Bo Bice, but now look at her. And you never hear about Bo Bice amounting to anything so what do I know?
Is that it? It’s over? Wow, that went fast. So alright then. Who was your fave tonight? I’m gonna go with Michael Lynch. And I’m afraid we might loose John Park this week, what do you say?

I agree with you completely on everthing…except for the Carrie Underwood part. I picked her to win at her first audition, and I loved her throughout the whole season. I loved Bo too, but on that final voting night, my fingers were dialing for Carrie. =)
Adios to John. And hopefully, farewell to Mr. I Know God…whatever his name was. I think it started with a J…
I agree. Bye bye, John. And Mr. Whatshisname. Eeew. Sorry, but I didn’t like Tim Urban much. He took a great song and butchered it. Nerves, I think.
Loved the recap!
Todrick and Jermaine can just leave right now…ick! Puke on their attitudes! I’m a huge Casey and Michael fan, and Alex is just so dang cute!
Love your blog! I”m stalking – er, I mean following now
Blessings,
Lisa
I like Lee and Andrew, but Andrew is going ot have to step up his game. I was really surprised by Big Mike. Last night was the first time that I really thought he was good. And the two guys in the middle, the God guy and the one before him, blech. They are both so bad that I don’t even know why they made it into the top 24. Was the other talent really that bad?
Hey, where’s your “follow” button?
Toddrick-attitude much?
Jermaine is the nameless ‘Jesus is my homeboy’ boy-I wanted him off last week.
I like Andrew’s voice and wish he’d get the song choice right. I like Michael alot and personality helps. (take note Toddrick)
John was one of my picks to go home as well!!
Without taking a peek, I don’t even remember who John Park is. I’m with you on Tim Urban (and with the “can’t remember his name, but he knows God guy” — exactly my thoughts!!). I wasn’t crazy about Tim Urban last week, but I thought he did great this week.
I don’t know if I had a favorite this week. There are some who I really like. I think that no-name guy and Todrick Hall might go out, and I don’t even remember John Park, so he might be at risk too — ha.
