This giveaway is closed. The winners are announced in this post.
This week I want to show you how awesome the Palm Pre is at multitasking. As far as I’m concerned, it is THE best feature with this phone — that and the status bar. I decided it would be a lot easier to show you than to tell you so with a little (okay, a lot) of help from my husband, I put together this video.
This week wraps up the Palm Pre Plus campaign with Verizon and The Motherhood so that means it’s almost time to award the three $25 Verizon gift cards and the grand prize — a Palm Pre Plus.
WIN IT! Simply leave me any comment related to the Palm Pre Plus on this post. On Friday I will announce the winners in my wrap-up post.
NOTE: This Palm Pre Plus will work only on Verizon Wireless so the winner will need to have Verizon service or be planning to switch to Verizon.
Also, I’m not the only one giving away a Palm Pre Plus this week. For more chances to win, check out these blogs.
I wrote this review while working on a Verizon Palm Pre Plus campaign by TheMotherhood.com on behalf of Verizon Wireless and have been given a Palm Pre Plus (and prizes for giveaways) to facilitate my review.

What sort of battery life do you get with the Pre Plus?
With that, how much do you use the phone on a regular basis and how long does a charge last for you? Does the number of programs running affect that number?
The battery life is not excellent, but it depends largely on the usage and what you’re doing on it. I can almost always get through the day, but I charge it religiously every night.
My friend has the Palm Pre (Sprint not Verizon’s Pre Plus so there might be a few differences) and from what I’ve heard is that the battery life is good if you use it just like a normal phone (texts, calls, calender, etc). If you use the apps, videos, and such then it would get zapped quickly however the upside is that it charges remarkably fast. Furthermore, every update to the WebOS has had some sort of improvement to managing the battery life.
Yes, I hear they have improved the battery in this version.
I have been playing with the Blackberry Curve for a few days and your video review of the Palm Pre Plus convinced me that its the phone for me! I would very much like to win one as buying one is out for at least a year or two. (By then though they may drop in price a bunch!) Hope to win!
I have the Blackberry Curve, and while it is a good phone, I prefer the Palm Pre for the web browsing and the multi-tasking.
I love my Pre, but battery life is an issue. I take advantage of USB ports whenever I can, keeping it charged so it can multitaks without worries whenever I’m on the run.
Very cool. How is the speaker phone? I use that a lot while in the car and on work teleconferences.
The speaker phone is not very loud, but I rarely use it so it isn’t an issue for me.
My question: can I give it to my husband? He would LOVE it and I would love to wow him for his bday!
Haha! If you win, you can give it to anyone you want!
I’m interested in the speacker phone too. We have family out of state and the kids love to talk to them on the speaker and my current phone is terrible!
What an awesome giveaway!
How easy is the sync process? Do you sync it with bluetooth?
Also, are you going to stick with the Pre after this is all over? Are you a total convert?
The sync is so easy it’s not even funny. It basically walked me thru the process. And when I want to sync my Pre calendar to my Google calendar, it’s just one touch on the menu.
Yes, I am sticking with it. This week we are going to break my current contract and switch to Verizon.
I have been wanting a smart phone for some time – my question is – do longish nails make it difficult to use?
I do not have longish nails, so I can’t say for sure, but I would think it might be a bit annoying. I type with my nails.
Does this phone require a data plan with Verizon?
Yes, it requires a voice and data plan.
This phone looks fun! Can you check email while talking on the phone?
YES!!!!!!!!!! You can do a bunch of things at once. It’s what I love so much about it.
I have a Blackberry with a full keyboard and a tracker ball. I find the tracker ball to be frustrating when trying to scroll but not as bad as the touch screen on my husband’s Blackberry storm. Is it easy to scroll with the touch screen on the Palm Pre?
As I said, I have the Curve as well. I don’t find it as annoying to scroll on the touchscreen. I also have the iPod touch so I am used to the touch screen. I MUCH prefer it to the blackberry scrolling.
My first question is always “What is the battery life?” I haven’t gotten used to putting it on the charger automatically every day and like to know how long I can go between charges.
Followed by “Does it have a pullout keyboard? … which I already know the answer to thanks to an earlier post.
You may not be the only one giving one away this week… but you are the only one I am following!
I have been so disappointed by T-Mobile for so long. The only way they get anything done is when I threaten to quit … and actually have a backup plan in case they let me go that far. And ohhh have I been ready to go that far!
I guess I should have asked a question… How is their customer service? I’ll switch now if they are better than TMobile.
I haven’t had to deal with customer service, but my husband has Verizon Wireless on his work phone, and he has no complaints. He has been telling me to switch to Verizon for a year, now.
I have been with Verizon for 9 years, and I never intend to switch providers. They have never been anything but good to me. We have had billing issues in the past, and customer service has been very nice and helpful. Oh, and I rarely find an area without service.
Here is a tip for YOU… you can get rid of the Phone from your quick launcher because you never need to dial a number from the Phone Application.. Just go onto “Card View” via a swipe up and then just dial your numbers from the keyboard. Universal Search will automatically recognize that it’s a phone number and give you the option to dial directly from there! The only time i ever open the Phone App directly is to get to Phone Options or Call Log!
Thank you! I forget about Universal Search. I need to highlight that in my last post!
i’m worried i won’t like a touch screen. how do you like typing on it compared to the blackberry??
First of all, you can’t type on the Palm’s touch screen. It’s too small, and they don’t offer a keyboard so any time you want to type, you must pull out the keyboard.
As far as typing on the Palm vs the Blackberry, I prefer the Blackberry keyboard to the Palm’s, but only by a narrow margin. I love the web browsing on the Palm and the features of the touchscreen, so much so that I am giving up my Blackberry and switching to the Palm. They are both great smartphones, just for different reasons. My husband loves his bberry. He has the Storm, I think.
As far as typing on a touch screen vs typing on a Blackberry, I love typing on my iTouch. I also thought I wouldn’t like it but I got used to it very quickly.
Typing really comes down to personal preference. Everyone has a different opinion. I could not STAND typing on the Motorolla Cliq that I tried for a week and returned back in December. But I have no problem with the Blackberry, iTouch, or the Palm.
hmm- I know you were previously a BBerry girl like me, so I’ll ask about messaging. My husband and I keep contact throughout the day using our BBerry messenger- is there an equvalent Palm Pre App? Have you tried it out? Or are there other msging apps to try so that we could msg between berries and the palm pre?
My huz and I use the texting to converse during the day, but you can also use Gmail and Yahoo chats on the Pre.
The only experience I have with a “smart phone” is my iTouch which isn’t even a phone at all. But my question is, what does this sync with? I know it isn’t iTunes, but what do you use to sync up your contacts and photos and what not?
I have an iTouch too. Love it and thought I wanted an iPhone until I tried the Pre. I’m addicted to the multi-tasking now.
It syncs your contacts with your gmail and facebook (and palm account if you had one). It syncs your calendar with Google calendar. I’m sure there is more that I’m forgetting.
It also has a music app — thru Amazon i think. I think it syncs with iTunes.
Although, I would LOVE a Palm Pre Plus, sadly I cannot switch to Verizon. Do you know if Palm has any plans to offer the phone via AT&T?
Nope. Sprint and Verizon.
Actually, AT&T has announced that they will have 2 webOS devices in 1H10… it was announced by AT&T back in January but no details have been announced since. For updated info, you can always check out http://www.precentral.net for the latest in Palm webOS news!
How easy is it to use the button on the keyboard?
I’ve been wanting an iPhone too, but I refuse to switch from Verizon. My Blackberry is over 2 years old and is starting to die so I’ve been in the market for a new phone. Your video shows how easy the Pre is to use. Thank you for that. My question. Does it sync with iCalendar and Mac?
Thanks for sharing. I already have a contract with Verizon so I am very excited about this phone. I also have an ipod. Can you tell me about the apps for this, what is the easiest way to download apps to the phone? Oh, and thanks for the opportunity to win one!!
There are TONS of apps for the Pre, not as many as for the iPod, but how many apps does a person need, really? LOL. There is an app store on the phone, and you can search by keyword or by the most popular. I like my iPod, but you can’t multi-task like you can on the Pre, and I tried to use the iPod’s pedometer app on my run yesterday, but when I cut over to the music to change the song, the pedometer stopped. URGH!! With the Pre, it keeps working, even if you switch to another application. SWEET!
I haven’t gotten a smart phone yet, but have been *dying* to try the iPhone. Your post has now made me want to try the Pre! My only concern (with both actually) is the screen…I keep my phone in my purse and don’t want to scratch or crack the screen. Do you store it in a pouch or case? I guess you can probably get some sort of ‘skin’ for it, but then how do you type? Thanks! I’m on ATT right now, but want to switch to Verizon b/c of coverage areas and dropped calls on ATT…it’s driving me NUTS!
Stacy, the Pre comes with a lovely little felt case that it slips into, that I have already managed to lose. GRRRR. And I can’t seem to get another, at least, they don’t sell it online or in Verizon Wireless stores. But it was a nice way to protect the phone, and I’m sure you could make one or buy something similar. I think they also make screen covers.
Okay so I googled (actually I searched with Swagbucks!!) and found this site with lots of Palm Pre cases.
Lots to choose from. I will be ordering something for MOI.
I’ve never owned a smart phone before. My current phone is over five years old!
How much do the applications cost?
Does it take videos?
Hi Susan.
They just added video capture as an upgrade.
Applications are generally $1 or $2, rarely as much as $5.
Hope that helps!
You already answered my question about checking email while on the phone and multitasking, so I’m left without a question!
I think the phone looks terrific, so I hope I win!
Have been using my Palm Pre Plus for the past month and I LOVE it! Any idea of whether Documents to Go in an editable form will come to the App Catalog?
To help out: Susan S–there are over 2000 apps, many of which are free. The average cost is probably $1.99; I haven’t really researched but some of the games are $6.99. Video capability arrived with the OTA update to version 1.4 over the weekend.
Stacy–I use PhantomSkinz on my Pre and have no scratches. I don’t currently use a case, but occas use a clip on holster. The keyboard slides out, so no worries. There is a virtual keyboard that can be loaded onscreen.
Patrice, thank you!!! I didn’t know about the virtual keyboard. Not sure about Documents to Go. I will try to find out.
You have to have a smart phone plan right? How much more a month is that?
They run from $20 a month and up. It appears that with Verizon, at least in my area, the plan for an unlimited 3G wireless data plan is $29.99.
I hear there is also a family data option on Verizon for $39 a month.
Is there a calender function? Is it easy to use or not worth learning?
The calendar is AWESOME. For one thing, it syncs with Google Calendar (which I already use) but it is very nice on its own. You can give each person in your family a different color so you know when you look at it who the activity is for. There is a lot of info on that here.
I inherited my son’s blackberry when he switched over to the iPhone…..I’m thinking maybe it is Mom’s turn for something cool!
The Palm Pre is the easiest to use smartphone around and yet offers the features and sophistication that any business owner or executive requires. It really is your personal assistant in your pocket. For more reviews on smartphones click: http://www.squidoo.com/palmpre-or-pixi
is it a hybrid?
runningmatey at hotmail dot com
How do you like the reception?? I have the Verizon BB Storm. One of my biggest issues with it is that I can’t hold it on my shoulder (you know, the standard mom w/out any hands trick) b/c the person on the end can never hear me like that! I didn’t seem to have that problem with other/non-smart phones before so just curious if you’ve noticed anything like that with the Pre.
Looks like a great phone though.
And speaking of great … that’s by FAR the best video on a blog I’ve EVER SEEN!!! Seriously that’ commercial worthy right there!! Props to your husband:)
Why thank you SO much.
The reception is great, but I can’t hold it on my shoulder. I couldn’t with my blackberry either, though, so I don’t miss it.
An iphone works as a phone and ipod combined. Does the Palm Pre work like that, too? could I get rid of one appliance? Please say yes!!!
Yep! It sure does.
Does this phone require a high data plan?
Does it sync easily with Macs?
Yes you can synch with a MAC. There is a download on the Apple website.
Does it have a stylus to write with or just fingers? Does it have character recognition as an option instead of keyboard? Thanks.
Does it get “hot” while in use? As in, does it feel warm to your ear when on the phone or does it get warm in your hands when you’re surfing, etc.?
LOL, no, not at all.
I’ve heard that the battery life wasn’t that great, but do you know if they offer an extended life battery for the Palm Pre Plus? Or is there an app that you can use to extend battery life(like with the Droid)?
Not that I know of, but I’ll check with my team.
Bridget, because the battery is easily removable, you can always get a backup and bring it with you when you know you’ll be gone all day and giving the Palm a workout.
Most smartphones when heavily used go thru battery life! I have a backup Seidio 1350 which does NOT add to the width of the phone. The back cover that comes with VZW Palm Pre Plus is Touchstone-ready.
Jo-Lynne, I haven’t seen any mention of the COOL charging system available for Palm Pre Plus. That is the TOUCHSTONE! You plug in the Touchstone, then the Pre rests on the Touchstone using magnets. No more fiddling with the charge cord or tryiing to pry open the charger port! I have TS’s at home, at work AND in the car! Just another thing I love about my Pre Plus!
Well dang, wish they’d given us one of those! LOL. I hadn’t heard about that, sounds VERY cool.
And true about battery life. My blackberry has better but no awesome touch screen to use up energy.
I have a Blackberry pearl. I like it but I’ve been looking for something new and fun. I love the Palm Pre! I love that it has the touch option AND the keyboard! I’m wondering if it’s easy to hold on to. My Blackberry Pearl is the small Blackberry. Does the Pre fit in you hand nicely? I quess it must since they call it a “PALM” Pre..haha
LOL. Yes, I find it very easy to hold onto. It actually fits very neatly into the palm (ha!) of my hand. I find the blackberry curve harder to hold onto b/c it’s slimmer.
I would love, love, love an upgrade from what I called in an earlier comment, my Little Tykes phone. Really I need my calendar and lists all in one place. A paper planner has never worked for me. I have every kind and size available and I just leave it on the counter and forget to look at it. I don’t think that would happen with a phone cause it’s always with me. My fear with getting a smart phone, however, is that I would need to have it with me and when it’s with me, that I would “need” to check my e-mail and such constantly. (Which I really don’t need to do because I’m not THAT important) Have you noticed more of an attachment to this phone and a constant need to check in with it? (That’s really kind of a personal question, so I understand if you don’t want to answer…all the basics have been covered.
DeAnn, I think it works two ways. I have had a smartphone for a year and a half, and while I am connected while I’m out and about, I don’t feel the urge to hop on the computer the second I get home b/c I’m already caught up on my email. Invariably, when I sit down at the computer to check email, I get caught up doing 101 other things. But if I have caught up with everything on my phone, when I get home I can tend to other tasks. So in a way, I think it has helped me be less tied to the computer.
On the other hand, I do have to be careful when I’m out with friends and family. I don’t want to always have my nose buried in my phone. And I want my kids to learn that it’s rude to always be conversing with someone else in social situations.
Thanks! Great point! I would love to spend more time away from the computer at home and check e-mails and such during some down time like picking up kids or hanging out at the soccer fields.
Exactly.
I haven’t read all of the comments, but I’d love to know, if you’ve used both, do you like this device or the Blackberry better? I currently have a Blackberry Curve and have been browsing verizon wireless’s site for something more fun
)
Beth, I personally prefer the Palm Pre. The web browsing and multitasking, task bar, alerts, universal search — all that is much better on the Palm.
I know this is a WebOS phone and not Windows but I was wondering, is there are any apps to view (or maybe even edit) Microsoft Office documents and powerpoints? That would be extremely useful for work or school.
The Pre Plus comes preloaded with DTG (Documents to Go) which allows you to view MS docs. Currently you can only view docs you load. Hopefully DataViz is working on a version that is fully editable.
Don’t mean to hijack your blog, Jo-Lynne. Home ill with a “bug” and online more than usual. Plus I LOVE this phone!
LOL, I can tell. You are being VERY helpful, so thank you!
I remember you were a big fan of your blackberry. Are you a convert to the palm pre? I like how it seems so easy to use. I just got a blackberry and am finding not as user friendly as I’d hoped.
Yes, when I got the Blackberry I was so in love… LOL. And it is a great phone. For about a year, I was thrilled with it.
But I would get so frustrated trying to view webpages with it, all the scrolling thru the sidebars, and scrolling, and s-c-r-o-l-l-i-n-g. And then it would fully load and jump to the bottom of the page, and I’d have to scroll back up. DROVE ME TO DRINK. It was a nice starter smartphone, but I guess I “outgrew it” ?
So as soon as I was eligible for an upgrade, I went to the store and got the Cliq – runs on android technology. I loved the multi-tasking, the status bar, the web browsing, and how easy it was to access my google groups and google docs – things I also love about the Palm. But I could not type on the dang thing. And there was a funny glitch with the speakerphone, so I returned it.
The Palm is VERY user friendly. When I got my blackberry, my hub had to help me set it up, I recall. The Palm, I did myself, and it walked me through the whole process. It was SO easy. I am still discovering cool new things it does. Plus it has apps. Overall a very “smart” phone.
Jo-Lynne, this comment just sold me on the Palm Pre. I have had a blackberry for the last couple of years and for the most part I love it. But I agree with web-browsing and the scrolling. It can be tiresome. This is the main downfall I have with my Pearl. So if I don’t win one here, I believe I have found my next phone!
My question is, do you like it enough to switch carriers (if your plan is up)? I am also interested in length of battery life.
Amy, I am actually breaking contract and switching carriers. My reasons are two-fold. I like the Palm Pre a lot and want to keep using it. And I also like Verizon’s service better than my current carrier. I get fewer dropped calls.
Wow, amazing overview and stunning video! Thanks for sharing this, much more informative than the store demos for those of us to see.
Can I sync contacts from the Pre to my ipod touch? I have a pro right now and I tried to link them via bluetooth so i could transfer contacts to the touch, but i was unable to. I do not really want to have to individually input all of my contacts into my touch.
Melanie, the BT only connects with headsets or earphones (or car speakers, I think.) So unfortunately, no way to sync from the iTouch. BUT, if your contacts reside somewhere else (Google, Yahoo, Outlook, etc), they will sync to the Pre Plus effortlessly.
Sorry if this was already a question, there were about 80 comments already so I didn’t read them all…BUT:
Can you share the calendar on your phone with others? Can it be emailed to someone? Can calendar events be emailed from another calendar system (say, iCal) to your phone? That would be a great feature. I just did my March calendar for the computer with everyone’s little league practice schedules, etc. and I know it would be awesome to have my calendars synched.
Probably not with the iCal, but it would be great to have my husband know what’s going on.
YES! From what I understand, you can bring in various calendars into the Pre and then color code them so you know which one you’re looking at, and also choose to show them all together or just the one you need.
My husband and I use Google Calendar, and we have them synced so his stuff shows on mine, and mine on his. And then my Google Calendar is synced to my Palm Pre calendar (and his is synced to his Blackberry). Very cool.
Not sure about iCal though.
A phone that sounds as though it can do everything except the dishes and fold the laundry. Whoo hoo!
Is it more expensive to own and use a Palm Pre than a normal cell phone?
Kim, yes, the data plan is an extra $30 a month.
hello! i’m not very modern when it comes to technology. I was wonering, does this make dinner for 6 kids? does it do laundry? does it drive a car big enough to hold a baseball team? what…. it doesn’t? then why does it make your life easier? i would love to find out!!! thank you!!!!
LOL. Yeah, now THAT’s the kinda phone I need!
Does the calendar function work with Groupwise? I have to use the groupwise calendar for work, but want to be able to integrate with other calendar functions!
I am so in need of the Palm-pre to get my mommy calendar under control!
Amanda

Can I still enter to win?
I have a Palm 755 and I like it, but I don’t feel it has very many applications to choose from. Do you feel like the Palm Pre really has better applications?
I assume the apps are the same for all Palms, but I could be wrong.
I’ve heard they are excellent phones. Would love to have one.
Okay I don’t even own a cell phone yet!! Is this Palm Pilot like a cell? Does it (I know absolutely nothing about it) doe it keep a calendar and address book?
Does the Pre Plus have a touchscreen?
Yes, a touch screen and a keyboard.
I am a busy mom with a part time business. The Palm Pre Plus would be helpful to like up both sides of my brain!! The “PixelPipeline” would help for my blog/newpaper column and who couldn’t use the “Shopping Manager”??
The Palm Pre’s the phone for me!!
As for the question..does it come in pink?????
Nope, but you can get a pink cover for it.
I have a Razor right now, which works, but doesn’t do anything fancy. My sister has something new which she does everything from texting to web surfing. My question is how easy is it to move from and “old” cell phone to the Palm Pre?
I moved from a Razr to the Blackberry and it was a bit of a learning curve. But the Pre had no learning curve at all, so I can’t say for sure if it was going from a phone to a smartphone, or if it was just the Blackberry.
Do you know if this phone has VCast song ID?
No, no Vcast. Not sure why not?!
Is Verizon running a special on the Palm Pre?
They are! In the stores, it is BOGO. You can purchase a Palm Pre Plus and get another Pre Plus free OR the Palm Pixi free. I just checked online and they have the Pre Plus for $99.99. All of these come with contractual obligations, of course.
How does it compare to the Droid?
I don’t know, I haven’t used a Droid. I think there are a lot of similarities with the multitasking and the status bar and such. My SIL has a Droid, and it seems heavy and clunky to me. I like the smooth, sleek styling of the Palm, but I think it depends a lot on what you’re looking for.
How would you compare the Palm Pre to the Blackberry Storm for verizon? Do you get a good signal? My Blackberry Storm does not get good reception at all! I’ve been wondering about the Palm Pre! What a great giveaway.
Really? My hub has the Storm and has no trouble with reception. I’m surprised that is an issue.
HI THERE
I AM IN NEED OF A NEW PHONE. MINE HAS BEEN THROUGH THE RINGER WITH A 7 MONTH OLD AND A 2 YR. OLD … LOL
HAVE YOU TRIED THE VERIZON DROID? IF SO, HOW DOES IT COMPARE?
I would have many questions because I’ve never used a smart phone before. However, I guess I would have to find out how well it would be able to withstand moist conditions since I milk cows for a living. I keep my current phone in my pocket at all times, but sometimes I need to answer my phone when my hands are the cleanist!
My question would be are there a variety of apps and if so are they relatively cheap (or free ones available)? Im a major app person and love to use a lot of apps and what is the size of the memory on the phone? I currently have verizons blackberry storm and i never have enough memory so i have to keep my folds pretty empty to allow app space. Thanks!
Will the Palm Pre accept my aol email address as its default email address?
As long as you can enable imap on aol, you should have no problem.
I haven’t seen anything about the camera yet. I often communicate with my daughter at college via the camera. I have an Envy touch and the camera is not that great. Do you use the camera and if so how is it? How does the flash work?
Oh the camera is GREAT! Really, I am so impressed — a big improvement over my last phone.
maybe you answered this already but i was just wondering how much the “extras” cost. we just have a plain phone with just the basics. can you use this with just basics or do you need to pay for everything else as well?
You cannot use the phone without a data plan, which costs an additional $30 on top of the basic phone service.
Is it easy to use for a technically challenged person?
LOL, well that is rather hard to say. I think it is very easy to use, but I’m used to a smartphone.
That was an awesome video! I went in to the Verizon Store yesterday to check it out since we were right beside the store. My only concern is that the keyboard is so small. Do you find that you are constantly mis-typing cause that wouldn’t be good for all my twittering and text messaging. I currently have a Voyager and love, love the full keyboard. As far as Verizon, we have been Verizon customers f.o.r.e.v.e.r. My first cell phone when I was 16 was with Verizon. I have never had any problems with them. Oh my gosh I would be so tickled if I won this!! Thank you for hosting such an awesome giveaway.
No, not at all. I hardly ever mis-type on it.
And I’m picky. I returned that Cliq b/c I couldn’t type on the pull out keyboard OR the touchscreen one.
Technology is so cool! Does it pop out chocolates too? That would be so awesome…
I have been with Verizon for 9 years now, and not even the iPhone would induce me to switch providers. However, my old phone is just plain sad. I sure hope I win this one!
Thanks for hosting this giveaway!
If you invent a phone that pops out chocolates, I guarantee it will be a smashing success! LOL.
I have not used a phone yet with apps. Are they user friendly? is it hard to get used to?
I find them very intuitive.
Just thought of another question. What kind of charger does it use? I’m not sure what mine is, but it was standard on the blackberries from 2 years ago. It would be nice if I didn’t have to buy all new car chargers.
And another question. Does it have a password keeper or something similar like BB’s?
There is an app called SplashID that provides this service. Now that I know that, I think I need to put it to good use! THANKS!
Awesome! I will make a mental note of that one. Okay, who am I kidding. I’m going to write it down.
Another good password manager is jVault which has a Palm Pre App AND a desktop version. Together the cost is around $10. That way you can backup your data, AND it is encrypted. The developer is SUPER about responding to emails and helped me immensely when transferring data from DataViz’s Passwords Plus.
It uses an unusual charger, and I am trying to avoid buying a new car charger. I’m just making sure to charge it whenever I’m home.
I know I need a new phone but can’t decide which one is best. This Palm Pre sounds good. I like that it’s a multi-tasking phone. I would love to win this phone!
Yes yes yes! I want one!! Is that comment enough to be entered!!
I have 10 Firefox windows open, each with at least 5-10 tabs. Think I need the multitasking feature?
Katie
How is the web browser? Does it show the page as a mobile page like the blackberry or like the ipod touch (or iphone)?
Dang, I should have showed that in my video. The web browsing is FAB. It is not a mobile page like the Blackberry. It’s like the iTouch. It’s brilliant and sharp and even though it’s smaller than the iTouch screen, I don’t even notice.
Plus you can “pinch out ” with 2 finger tips to enlarge (and the focus quickly adjusts to be readable) and then “pinch in” to return. That way you can zoom in on whatever you need to see better. Helps out my 55+ eyes!
I went into a Verizon store but they didn’t have a Palm out yet to play with. I’m really hard on my phones and would worry that a case wouldn’t be enough to protect it. I also like the phone I have because it fits in an evening bag. I got rid of my last phone because of it’s bulk. How hefty is this phone?
Yes, it’s a really nice size for that. It is small and compact – thicker than a blackberry or iPhone but not as big.
Oh, I so need this phone! I am a busy mom working FT, and running 2 kids to all of their doc appts and practices. I have researched this phone to death, and I so want it! Unfortunately, Verizon tells me it’s not time yet:( But if I won one…..:) Thanks!
I just read all the comments, and it really helps that you had the BB before because that’s what I currently have. Is there anything that you do miss with the BB? Otherwise, I see all the great reasons to change-I am definitely tired of the scrolling!! Thanks!
No, not really. Well, I miss that it was this pretty shiny red.
This would be perfect for me! I love the wi-fi hot spot feature, and I already have Verizon! Sign me up!
I would really love to get this phone for my mother. Our family uses Verizon and other smartphones offered for the verizon network seems too complicated for her to use.
Besides the fact that my phone is about to kick the bucket, I am in love with the fact that you can create a Wi-Fi hotspot wherever you are…Could have used that about a million times in the past!
I like the calendar application that the allows you to look at your work meetings and personal appointments in one view. Very convenient!
I heard that the multiple calendar function on the Palm Pre is much better than most. I love the look and feel of it. I could use this to force my husband to start maintaining a our family calendars!
This is what every busy and on-the-go Mom needs!
In fact, this should be a hospital freebie when you have a baby!
I don’t have a smartphone yet and feel a little outdated. Most of my friends are constantly updating their facebook, adding pictures, etc. I would love to join in!

I have seen the commercials for this phone but they never talk about its calendar. Does it have a good one where I can actually typein the type of appointment I have or children have, keep up with bills, etch. Is the video compatible with youtube. I like most of what I have seen and my get one. I could use the gift card
I would LOVE to win this, Jo-Lynne!!
I’d love to win this as I would like to have a touch phone like the Palm Plus
I have an Ipod touch and my son has had the venus phone that had the touch screen, my concern would be does the screen seem pretty solid? The ipod so far has been fine with daily use for the past few months even with my 2 year old using it for puzzle games, the Venus however he went through two in just under a couple months because if you pressed the screen just a little too hard it spiderwebbed making it useless then especially since that was the only way on that phone to dial. Do you think this one is comparable to the screen on the itouch?
From anything I understand it is comparable in quality to the iTouch (I also have one of those). The screen is sturdy and the Palm Pre has been around on Sprint for some time, even though it is new to Verizon, and I have heard nothing of that issue.
I am most interested in this phone for the calendar and social apps. I am a stay at home mom to 2 kids. I also spend a lot of time myself at the doctors. It’s nice to still be connected and fill some of the waiting room time!
Funny I just said to another mom that I couldn’t commit to something on Thursday until I checked my calendar on the fridge:) This would be the start to solving that problem. AND I just recently got verizon wireless… I upgraded from the tracfone. I am beside myself with all of this technology. LOL
This is an amazing giveaway! Thank you so much for providing it to all of us. What I hope to use if I had the phone would be the calendar application because usually I use an agenda to keep up with meetings, deadlines, and appointments but I want to save the paper and just check my phone instead. Thanks again for the great giveaway!
Jo-Lynne,
Kudos to you and your husband on your GREAT video! Nicely explained in a short, to-the-point manner. Good for us busy moms.
I had a Palm about 6-7 years ago (when a stylus was used). I used it religiously to keep my calendar in check, organize notes to myself or about work, staying on top of work schedules (I’m a project manager), time-tracking, etc. I loved it.
I currently have a BB Bold. I’ve had two other BBs so I’m very comfortable with them. The Bold is okay. The web browsing is horrible and slow. I’ve had the phone replaced twice in one year. The service with AT&T is disappointing and I’m willing to break my contract/agreement due to so many dropped calls and web browsing “communication errors.”
The Pre appears to be a perfect fit for me as I love the combination of Palm features (that I so greatly enjoyed before), phone, ease of use (with the touchscreen), a real button keyboard, and service through Verizon (why did I ever leave Verizon after almost a decade of service?!). This combination would suit my busy life as a working mother, wife and social butterfly that I am.
Thanks for your video, feedback and opportunity to win a Palm Pre. Even if I don’t win, I’ll save up to buy my own sometime this year!
I want a Pre Plus to stay on top of things while dealing with four daughters and their activities everyday.
I love my Verizon service but, like you, was fustrated with my current phone. I actually cancelled the web browsing capability from my phone because it was too hard to use on it. This phone sounds like it would be worlds different – the screen looks so crisp and much bigger than the phone I currently have. I never would have thought of buying a smart phone before… but this one has me considering it!
I only have a TracFone. Would be nice to have something this fancy. We already use Verizon, wonder how much to add cell service.
This sounds great, I have a bare bones Verizon phone right now and I’d love to have one that had actually had some features.
It’ll be great to have one as I tend to schedule my time using my phone’s calendar. And also for impromptu photos. My current phone is really dying away it’s slow death. Sigh…
This phone sounds like I need it! I would love to have the abilit to check e-mail, go one line etc. And I use Verizon for my dinky, basic phone!
I have Verizon as well and right now have the Motorola Krave and I HATE it……The screen is not nearly as big as it needs to be for it to be a touch screen only. I love the fact that the Palm Pre has the keyboard functionality as well…..Can you sync the Pre to facebook as you can do with BB and Iphone?
YES YES!!! My contact list pulls from Facebook, my gmail account, and my palm account. And you can choose which account is the default. I use facebook, so all my contacts grab their contact info from facebook, including the profile picture. I love it!
I would like to know what is the battery life on this phone. My biggest pet peeve is a phone that needs charged all the time.
It just depends on how you use it. It needs to be charged nightly with moderate to heavy use.
Oh I love the keyboard. I love that it’s hidden until you want it. That is just awesome. I have a cell phone that is just a cell phone, and I want to enter this cool world of smartphones (so they can make me look smart).
I’ve seen the commercials for this saying it was the “Mom” phone. It looks really cool. How hard is it to “type” on the Pre? I have an old dinosaur of a phone and it’s really really hard to type on…but I wonder how difficult it would be on this screen?
Thanks for the awesome giveaway!!!
Katy, I find it VERY easy to type on! I use the keyboard, not the touchscreen.
Hi,
I loved the look of the Palm Pre Plus. I am very excited for the touch screen and the slide out keyboard! Looks awesome. I would love it! Thank you.
After watching your video I have determined this is the phone for me. I’m a FT working mom of 2 kids who seems to barely know where I’m going to next. Having a phone with the calendar and ability to check email, etc. would be great. Added bonus for me would be the full keyboard! It takes me forever to type out a text! Thanks for showing how well it works and I’d love to win it
Wow, what an awesome giveaway! I have loved these since I first set my eyes on them. I think they are just gorgeous!
The only question I can think of: Is there anything that the Palm Pre Plus DOESN’T have that you wish it did? Thanks!
I wish it had a gmail app. I’m holding out hope that they will get one!
Don’t get me wrong, it syncs effortlessly with gmail, so I can get all my messages and respond. I just can’t take advantage of so many of the gmail features.
Can I transfer my apps from my T3 to this Palm?
You can! It requires a 3rd party app called Classic by MotionApps. Just bear in mind that it is VERY VERY TINY on the Pre Plus since part of the screen looks like the T3 buttons (which actually work!) And you can HotSync to the Pre Plus using this app. It is a little pricey, but worth it if you have a lot of apps to port over.
BTW, I find I am rarely using Classic now. Many of my “not to be without” from Palm OS are on WebOS with the PrePlus, and more are coming!
Wow, I think I am narrowing down to this phone – thanks for the info.
I think the Palm Pre Plus is just the smart phone that I am looking for.
This phone looks great. Any problems with the touch screen that you have noticed? Is it easy to clean?
Nope, no problems at all. It gets fingerprinted b/c it’s a touchscreen, of course, but it wipes clean easily. I usually use my pants.
The sleek design of this palm pre with the touch screen and hidden keyboard looks awesome! Great giveaway, thanks for the chance!
I love so much about the Palm Pre! I really want to switch to Verizon…esp after this past week w/no power & no cell coverage at home w/my current provider
Thanks so much for the great reviews during this series.
I really like the ability to multi-task and scroll through the apps.
