It’s been another crazy week here at Casa de Musings, and I didn’t have another shred of energy left to live blog the show last night. I did watch, however, and it was an interesting night in Idol Land. These guys are all in it to win it, and who’s going home tonight is anybody’s guess.
Here’s my nutshell recap:
Lee sang one of my favorite songs of all time, You’re Still The One, and I’ll give him a B+. He pulled it together by the end, and it was definitely Lee. I’m still a fan.
Mike bought himself another week with a masterful performance of It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing. It really suited him, or he made it his own — one or the other. Either way, he was in his zone. He gets an A.
Casey sang Don’t, another song I hadn’t heard before, but I’ll be downloading it on iTunes, you can be sure of that. It was one of his best performances to date and put him back in the judges good graces. I’m even going to take my Best Of the Night crown off Crystal’s head this week and hand it to Casey. If anyone doubted if he was a contender for the finals, he just proved them wrong. A+
Crystal sang No One Needs To Know. I remember be-bopping to this during my 4-year country music fling back in the mid-90′s. While it was charming and fun, everyone seems to agree that it wasn’t one of her best performances, and yet, it wasn’t bad either. It was just ah-iight for me, dawg. B-
Aaron won himself a new fan last night. Y’all know I’ve been hard on him since the beginning, but this was in a different league. He gets an A tonight. He sang It’s In the Way You Love Me, and at the end explained that he was singing it to his mom. Maybe that’s why I found it so believable. I have a hard time when these young kids sing mature love songs. Ick. But this was different, and it left me wondering…
WHO will American send home tomorrow night? The only contestant so far not blowing it out of the water was Crystal, and we all know she better not go home.
That leaves one possibility… Siobhan. I was an early fan, but in recent weeks she’s failed to enchant. Would she be able to reclaim her mojo?
Siobhan took on Any Man of Mine, another song I remember from my youthful fancy with country music. I wasn’t as crazy about this performance as the judges were, but she definitely got her groove back. I’ll give her a B- because that long note near the end is still hurting my ears just a little.
Based on the last few weeks, and on the excellence of the other performances, I am predicting Siobhan to go home tonight. And as an aside, WHAT was she wearing? I mean, I know it’s Siobhan and all, but. Gack.
What about you? Who do you want to see pack their bags tonight?

OH Casey…. that was fabulous. Curling iron hair and all! Or was it scrunched??? His song was amazing and he has been my favorite since the beginning. I think Siobhan needs to hit the road. I agree on that last note. A little much for me. I kept thinking… when is it going to end?
Agree about Casey. Is it o.k. for a 47 year old mother to swoon? I just loved his performance.
And totally agree about Siobhan. I have been quite over her for a few weeks now. She and her boots need to take a long walk back to Maine or wherever it is she’s from.
I’m back on the Casey bandwagon. He won the night hands-down! Even though I am NOT a Shania fan, this was not as painful as I had expected. And I actually liked Aaron’s performance.
Here are my rankings.
Casey
Lee
Big Mike
Aaron
Crystal
Siobhan (please take your scream and go away!)
Siobhan or even Big Mike. It is getting harder to decide!
Mike to go home. I wasn’t impressed. Something about his performance was just off.
My status on Facebook last night after the show, “Siobahn is a one note wonder. Not even a hit. Just a note.” And I think that sums her up pretty well.
I hope Siobahn is going home. Every song she sings feels like it should be in a musical – right down to the big screechy note at the end. I can’t see her making any kind of record that would sell.
And I’m not sure why, but to me it felt as if the producers told all of the judges to praise her because any other week they would have all criticized that same performance.
