American Idol Recap: It’s a Two-Fer

idol-talkIn more ways than one.  Tonight I’m going to recap two shows (last night’s performances and tonight’s results) and two contestants are going home.  I can hardly wait.  Can’t you?  Okay, well, pretend for my sake, m’kay?

Tonight (or last night, rather) is/was Elvis night, and the mentor is, um, Adam Lambert?  I do love me some Adam Lambert, but I’m kind of surprised he was asked to be a mentor so soon.

Crystal is starting the show.  I’m so glad I didn’t miss the beginning for once!!  Does she take his advice on the guitar choice?  Yep.  She does.  WOOT!  I love this.  Totally Crystal, but it’s upbeat and fun right from the get-go.  She makes me smile.  The judges love it.  Of course.  Crystal for AI Season 9!!!!!!  Do I hear an Amen?

Andrew is singing Hound Dog, and he is really putting his own spin on it.  This is way cool.  I’ve never been much of a fan, but that was good.  IS RANDY SMOKIN’ CRACK?  (Does one even smoke crack?  What does one do with crack?  I wouldn’t know, except say no.  Heh.)  But anyway, that was cool.  Thank you, Ellen.  Simon and Kara are high.  I mean, y’all KNOW I am typically not an Andrew fan.  So for that to catch my interest?  It had to be good.  Speak up.  Who’s with me?

Is it a full moon tonight or something?  I’m loving Tim unplugged with just the guitar and the mic and the stool.  He sounds great.  I’m bummed that he didn’t take Adam’s advice, though, and take it up into the falsetto at the end.  Still.  That was cool.  Well done.  The judges are on board too.  Yay Tim!

Adam gives Lee some great advice.  I love Lee, I just wish he’s loosen up a bit.  He’s singing A Little Less Conversation, and it’s a great song choice for him.  Once again, a solid performance.  I do think he could turn it up a notch, but I’m a BIG fan.  The judges love it, so maybe I was missing something.  Maybe I should quit multi-tasking and just watch the show.  Hmm….

Aaron is up with Blue Suede Shoes.  It’s okay, but he does nothing to make it his own or make it modern.  Okay, so I like how he takes it into half time at the end.  But still.  It’s not current and it’s kind of overdone.  He could have picked a lesser known song and probably done better.  I’m so with Simon on this one.

Siobhan is up and I can’t wait to see if she takes Adam’s advice or not.  Okay.  Y’all know I love Siobhan.  But honestly?  That was kind of old fashioned.  It was good.  But if it was the first time I’d heard her, I don’t think I’d have been wowed.

Mike is singing In the Ghetto.  Great choice.  Love this song, and love how he’s singing it unplugged.  I do agree that it was a bit “sleepy” but I liked it.  Didn’t love it, but I liked it.

Katie sang… Okay, I admit I was distracted with Skype.  Sorry.  Was it any good?

Awwwww… Glee! is in the audience!  I can’t WAIT to watch it.  It’s on my DVR just waiting for me.

Casey is on fire tonight.  He is really coming into his own.  Never has there been a season of American Idol where I seriously adored three of the contestants.  I’m loving this season.  Yeah, the judges are right.  He has a lot more in him than that.  But there have been seasons where there was only one contestant this good.  We have three or four major contenders this year.  So fun.

So I’m gonna say the top 3 performances were Crystal, Lee, and… Tim?  Yeah, seriously.

Going home?  Um.  Wow, this is hard.  Based on the past few weeks, I’ll say Katie and Andrew.  Based on last night, Katie and Aaron.  Or it could be Siobhan and Mike, to be honest.  Only time will tell…

It’s the results show, and the top 9 are performing Hunk of Burning Love.  *snore*  I hate group numbers.  Cheez-Whiz.

So after a corny Ford commercial, it’s time to put the contestants on the spot.  Casey and Aaron and Andrew are asked to stand, and without much ado Andrew is dumped.  WOW.  That was quick.  It’s his time, but a shame because last night he actually did well.  Or so I thought.  Aaron and Casey are safe, by the way.

Oh I love Brooke White.  It’s nice to see her.

Tim, Mike and Katie are set aside for the bottom three.

Crystal and Siobhan and Lee are sent back to safety.

AND it’s time for a commercial break and a little Adam Glambert fix.

Oh I loved Adam Lambert last season and I love him more now.  And WHY is that song not on my iPod?  I listen to it on the radio, but it needs to go on my Running playlist ASAP.

Well, Tim is safe once again, and for once I think he deserves to be.  It’s down to Mike and Katie, and honestly I don’t even care which ones goes.  But what does Ryan mean about one of them is not in the bottom 3?  Weren’t Tim, Mike and Katie the bottom three?  I am so confused.

Well, Mike is safe, and Katie is going home, and that’s fine by me.  She’s darling, but it’s time.

How do you feel about tonight’s show?  We are down to seven, and it’s getting serious.  I’m predicting Lee, Casey and Crystal for the top three.  What do you say?

  1. Lee, Casey and Crystal are my top three as well…have been for several weeks now.

Either one could win and I would be happy but I really love the sound of Lee’s voice. Love it!

  2. Misti says:

I honestly don’t really have a top three. I really just watch each week to see Crystal. It feels like we’re watching her journey to being the American Idol.

I too am a big Adam Lambert fan! Love the song he sang tonight.

  3. Jennifer says:

According to the Dial Idol results Mike had the most votes this week. That’s what he meant by one of them wasn’t even in the bottom three. So I’m guessing the bottom three were Andrew, Katie and Tim, and they just had Mike up there to kind of freak people out.

I didn’t like Andrew’s performance at all this week. I thought it was horrible. I like Crystal and Casey and I hope they make it to the final two. I think I like Mike and Lee equally, but I think Lee would do better commercially than Mike.

  4. It was time for Andrew and Katie for sure. This is a really tough year. Don’t know why they had to mess with us and Big Mike by putting him out there for everyone to think he was in jeopardy. Now it’s time to vote out Tim & Aaron or will the teeny-bopper vote continue???

I also predict Lee, Crystal and Siobahn for the top three. I love Crystal but watching the group performance last night, Siobahn has more stage presence than the other two.

  5. DonnaS says:

Yes, I totally agree with your top three. I love Crystal, she never seems to be trying too hard, it comes naturally. I also love Lee, but he needs to work on his stage presence. I think he’s just shy.

  6. Susanne says:

I’m thinking they kept Mike up there just for the shock value that he might be sent home even after being saved. I so thought Siobhan should have gone. I’m a wee bit tired of her arguing with the judges. She doesn’t take advise well. I thought Katie should have stayed. She’s getting better each week whereas Siobhan to me is stagnating, sounding the same every week.

Sorta surprised about Adam mentoring. Really after not even one year? But I cracked up when he said “Oh Simon” and laughed after Mike told him one of the judges said Mike had been too theatrical. That was funny.
