Confession: I am not a huge fan of Harry or Frank. Suffice it to say, this is not a theme night I’ve been looking forward to. However, our final five are pretty adept at making songs their own, so hopefully they can breathe some 2010 into these classics.
Okay, well, I feel like I’ve just been flown back to 1964, pun very much intended. Aaron’s rendition of Fly Me To The Moon did nothing to alleviate my concerns about this evening’s offerings. Randy and Ellen are praising him. Thank you, Simon, for keeping it real.
Casey isn’t really singing Blue Skies, is he? I remember singing this in 10th grade high school Chorale. It is, and forever will be show choir fare in my mind. But hey, you know what? Casey’s kinda putting some cool into it. And he can really sing.
The judges are bagging it. Hunh. A lamb? LOL!! Simon nails it with, “This is really, really uncomfortable.” Snort. Poor Casey. Well, it IS Sinatra. Did they expect him to be comfortable with it? Harry says he killed it in rehearsal, so there you have it. I actually didn’t think it was as bad as the judges did. Thoughts? Am I on my own here? Hold on. I’m rewinding and rewatching.
I’ve actually never done that before. So here’s the deal. I still think it was okay, but I think what I really liked was the arrangement, more than the singing. So anyway. Let’s hope Casey can hang on for another week because this was so not his cuppa tea.
So this is exactly what I feared about this night. We’re trying to find the next big pop star, and Sinatra’s tunes just aren’t conducive. Crystal was good and all, but so not current. If she can’t make Sintatra relevant, then nobody can.
And one more thing. PLEASE DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE JUDGES.
So Mike nails it, which is no surprise. Of all the contestants, this genre of music is the closest to his personal style.
Okay, the show finally started. Lee is in the house. BEST. SONG. CHOICE. OF. THE. NIGHT. I still found myself wanting a bit more at the beginning, but he pulled it together at the end. And anyway, it was the only song tonight that didn’t sound like we were in a time machine. I stand corrected. Sinatra tunes can be current.
Best of the night: Lee.
Going home: Hopefully Aaron, but perhaps Casey.
What say you?

I agree. And I thought tonight was worse than Elvis week. For real.
I’ve loved Lee from the get go. Kara was really giving him some love. I wonder if poor Crystal feels like a jilted lover?
And yeah, I’m with you on the “hopefully Aaron.” I think that he and Casey will be next, and the other 3 can duke it out.
I could have written this post myself. You nailed it. Every bit of it.
I LOVE Sinatra. Saw him in concert. Totally cool. But, what can I say…I’m old!
Casey was sooooo not comfortable and that makes me sad. But, Lee was so great and that makes me happy.
Rankings:
Lee
Big Mike
Crystal
Casey (putting him here only because he’s from Texas!)
Aaron
I want Aaron to go home, but will probably be my Texas boy!
Sorry, but I have a feeling it’s Casey going home tonight. We couldn’t even watch his performance, it was so uncomfortable. Love, love, love that Lee! He can make any song current.
I’m worried for Casey, but I’m going out on a limb and saying that Big Mike will be going home tonight even though he did well last night. It’s just that I want Casey in the Top 3. I’m glad to hear that you didn’t think that his performance was all that bad either. I’m crossing my fingers.
And since BooMama hasn’t posted her McLinky yet, I hope you don’t mind that I post my link here.
