Things I Love Thursday

It’s February and the winter doldrums are setting in. This happens to me EVERY YEAR. It’s been better since I started eating better and exercising, but I still find myself fighting a bit of the winter funk.

I saw Jill’s call on Twitter to link up to Things I Love Thursday and thought that maybe I should focus on some things that I love about February. This might be a short list.

1. Reading by the fire

2. Rosy faces after a morning playing in the snow

snow day

February 2009

3. Going out for a fancy Valentine’s Day dinner with my honey

4. Watching my little guy play basketball

February 2010

5. Winter sales (this is the BEST time to stock up on clothes for next winter!)

Omygosh I’m running out of things already.

6. Longer days

7. Sunshine (well, it’s shining today, at least!)

8. It’s short (this one, compliments of Jill)

9. It isn’t March! (I, personally, think March is the most depressing month of the year. At least it is when you live north of the Mason Dixon line.)

Okay that’s the best I can do. What do YOU love about February? Anything?

  1. Oh, i like your take on Things I Love Thursday. I do that segment on my blog also but havent done it yet this morning..was having a hard time coming up with something. HA! I might just have to ponder on this idea a bit and follow suit…

I think March is a depressing month also – especially in our Tri-State Area.

  2. New reader and subscriber here. I have a hard time in the winter as well. Last year was really hard for me. I do love that the days are just a bit longer. I can’t wait for summer though.

I love that February is my anniversary month. :-)

I also really do enjoy bundling up and playing in the snow! … the way I see it, since I’ve only lived up north for about 8 years, I’m like an 8-year old in the winter, so I still love the snow and cold!

  4. nicole says:

February is my anniversary month too. ;) It is the month spring training opens!

  5. mary kathryn says:

It’s one month closer to Christmas than January was.

  6. Seriously your daughters freckles just make me smile. I hope she always loves those. I have always wanted to be freckled ;)

  7. Shelly W. says:

My daughter’s birthday. And that’s about it. My list is shorter than yours. :)

  8. I, too, love rosy noses after being outside in the brisk winter air! Cute pic.

I love getting little handmade valentines from my kids!

I actually like Valentine’s Day. People like to be annoyed and get all cynical about having to give and get flowers, cards and candy, but I still like it. I think it’s kinds of fun to celebrate love and romance. I’ve learned to lower my expectations and not pressure my husband into making a big deal out of it. Some years we go out, some years we just put the kids to bed and snuggle on the couch for a few minutes. Whatever happens, I’m grateful for a little extra attention. :) Also, one of my favorite memories growing up is that my Dad (who is a very loving man but NOT a gift-giver) always gave his girls little heart-shaped boxes of candy. I still smile when I see them in the stores this time of year.

  10. Kimberly Dial says:

I struggle with this one too but here goes: (1) I love that January is over, (2) when the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow (although it looks like “Phil” is a big fibber ;) ,
    (3) Valentine’s Day, (4) it’s a short month, (5) we’re closer to Spring … that’s all I got!

  11. I can do this! I can do this! Let’s see. February… hmmm…

    Tulips at Trader Joe’s.
The way the sun makes blue shadows on the snow – seems like this is specific to February, at least around here.
    President’s Day (long weekend!)
Freezer stocked with all different kinds of soup. (Takes that long to build up a good supply!)
Conversation hearts. (Sugar! With words on it! Two of my favorite things, together!)
    Calling it FEBROOOOOOARY.
Local nurseries and greenhouses start cranking back up, planting the spring flowers and early veggie plants. Fun to go see!
Gives me a good excuse to ditch the black and grey and wear pinks and reds.
And… Oh, hey, how could I forget? Chocolate!

As a teacher, this part of the year is the worst!! We’re done with winter break and we have very few holidays this time of year. Normally we slog on to Easter/Spring break but this year, Easter is so late! I don’t know how we’re going to make it to the end of April!

Hi Jo-Lynne! I have been reading your blog for a few months now, recently started my own blog and I just wanted to tell you how much I love you blogging style and your blog site designs. I cannot afford to have you design one for me, but I hope over the next few weeks my husband and I can improve the look of my blog through some of your tips! I find it very easy to read and not cluttered like many mom blogs I have browsed through. I know you are VERY busy with all your blogs but if you get a chance to check out my blog I would appreciate any feedback you have! Thanks!

I love feeling the first day that even vaguely resembles Spring…
I love seeing all of the patio and garden supplies suddenly appear in the stores…
I love watching my little girl get excited about going to the toy store all bundled up in her winter garb…
I love to watch my puppy slide across the ice-covered place that is our backyard…
I love knowing that I didn’t completely give up on my New Year’s resolutions…

  15. Becky says:

February is alright, namely because it’s a shorter month and the snow storms are tapering off. I’m grateful that tonight I get a Date Night (seminar with a “relationship guru”) and my parents are babysitting! I also think March is the worst month of the year! It’s so long and dreary! As soon as March is over, my mood is lots, lots better! Good luck getting out of the winter funk.

  16. Grace says:

February is when the seed catalogs arrive! They’re the unofficial announcement for spring!
