This year’s holiday gift guide is geared to the elementary-aged child, and every single one of the gift suggestions on this list is something that I purchased or was sent to me, so I have seen it, touched it, smelled it or licked it. (Okay, I didn’t lick anything. I SWEAR!) Point being, everything on this list is something I wholeheartedly endorse. I only accept items for review that I think we would love.
I hope you find some holiday gift giving inspiration with this list! This year’s gift guide is focused mostly on gifts for children ages 6 to 12 because those are the ages of the kids I’m buying for this year (for those new to my site, I have two daughters, ages 6 and 9, and a son who is 12) but there are some suggestions for younger children and teens as well.
Disclaimer: There are certainly affiliate links scattered throughout this guide, meaning that if you click over (usually to Amazon.com) and make a purchase from that site, I receive a small percentage. This is one way that bloggers help support the cost of running our websites and justify the time and effort that we put into providing content every day. We are all so very grateful if you do some of your holiday shopping from our links. Furthermore, as I mentioned above, I have received most of the items listed below in exchange for including them in this guide. And that, I think, will keep the FTC happy with me!
Finally, YES, there is a GIVEAWAY associated with this gift guide! Because who doesn’t love free stuff? Read to the end (or scroll down . . . I’ll never tell) to find out all the gory details.

The Kindle Fire is going to be one of the hottest gadgets this holiday season, mark my words. It is the one exception to my “I have seen it, touched it, smelled it or licked it” proclamation, but it is JUST became available. I dare say this will be the first tablet that gives the iPad a run for its money because you can check your email, browse the Internet, play games, listen to music, watch a TV show and read magazines in color — all for less than half the price of an iPad. Now that’s something to get excited about!

Oh my! My boys would love the CAT machines. I wonder if they would go for them over a DS Lite…
We have a similar butterfly cage. They’re very sturdy!
I bet Libbie would love those science-in-a-box things! How fun! I appreciate your work here and hope I win!
Okay, tweeted and facebooked, not that I want anyone else to win.
The EZRoller looks like something my kids would really love. Our neighbors have something very similar (might even be this) and they ride them ALL. THE. TIME.
The Butterfly Habitat is AWESOME!!! We had a ball watching the caterpillar, waiting for the chrysalis and then the butterflies. One of the best gifts we’ve ever received!
My kiddo would go wild for those cars.
Personally, I’d like to get him the Vtech Inno Pad and my husband the Kindle Fire.
My son (5 years old) is getting more and more into art, since he started school. He’s been asking for an art easel, but we don’t really have the room for one. I’m thinking that the Kiwi Crate might be an awesome alternative for that!
I love the idea of the Kiwi boxes because all of the materials are packaged together and my 4 year old daughter LOVES to get her own mail to open.
Glad my kids are young, it seems the price of the gifts increases with the age of the child!
I definitely see a few things my daughter and my sons would like! Thanks for sharing!
I love these gift ideas! We bought the Butterfly Tent for a gift for my boys this year. I can’t wait to do it. The Kiwi subscription sounds wonderful. I’m going to add this to the ideas for grandparents. Thanks for putting this together!
I’ve never heard of kiwicrate! As homeschoolers this would be awesome-i’ll be looking into that one. Thanks for posting this before Thanksgiving-I’m going to try getting all of my shopping done as soon as possible!
I’ve seen that craft crate thing before – and I keep thinking it is something I need to remember for when my little one is a bit older. Oh and the Kindle Fire is awesome, I’m trying to get everyone to go together and get one of those for my little sister she’d love it! OK… yes on trucks and boys – now that I have a boy of my own I see exactly how YES boys and trucks go together is!
OK… great giveaway, awesome gift guide and I’ll stop here before I write a novel in your comments section!
We would love Little Miss Muffin in my house!
I love the idea of the kiwicrate. What a fun gift idea!
My son has always wanted one of those CAT machines. I was just debating whether to get one for him for Christmas.

I just want to say that’s one of the best disclosure statements ever. It’s amazing how many bloggers don’t disclose affiliate links… and before I was a blogger, I never even knew they existed! Great gift guide, I can think of a recipient for each of those toys (and the Kindle Fire looks amazing, right?!)
Tweeted!
we just saw the little miss muffin dolls on a commercial and they are so cute. My little girl was so excited when she saw them. I also love the Breyer pets. Breyer is such a cool toy company and I want to start a tradition on collecting something like this that she can look forward to on holidays each year
I love the science gifts on this list – the butterfly garden and weather pod. I think it is so important to foster children’s natural curiosity about the world!
My son has been asking for that butterfly habitat for two years now. Every time he sees it on tv he flips.
Great guide! My 5 yo has a very similar butterfly habitat and loves it! During times when it isn’t housing butterflies or bugs, it acts as a home/cage for various stuffed animals! I’m definitely going to look into that weather pod for him. Thanks!
My daughter really wants one of those muffin dolls (she’ll be 7 next month), but I didn’t see the appeal. I’m glad to see that your 8yo enjoyed it. Now I’ll think more seriously about getting her one.
Seriously, I am so glad you posted that Storm Chaser Weather Pod because I’ve been looking for something like that for my son because he is SO into the weather. THANK YOU!! I’m heading to their website right now.
P.S. Great giveaway. LOL!
Have a lovely day.

My little boy would love the cars. He plays with his all the time. Also, i think the kindle would be a great gift for me!
My sons would especially love the muscle cars like the Toystate Custom Ridez. They are so into hot rod cars right now. Thank you for the chance. reejen at comcast dot end
I am looking forward to spending time with the family on Christmas after going to church.
My son is wanting the Mario game soooooo bad!!!
I love love Corolle dolls for my little girls. They have the prettiest faces of any baby dolls out there and are so well made. My oldest is 5 now and would love the fashion dolls. We also have a few different Breyer sets and they are one of my 3 year olds favorites even though she is a little young for some of the delicate little plastic pieces on the stables and horse trailers. The animals are all so detailed and beautiful. I love both of these brands, they are such a nice respite from barbies and princesses. Great list!!
I’d keep the Wii game for us, but I’d send the rest along to a toy drive they’re doing here at work for kids in Chester.
Loved the list…we are giving the Kindle to our 14 year old and I think my 8 year old neice would love the butterfly garden. Thanks for the list!!!
They have EzRollers and a full course at our local tensy tiny zoo and amusement park. My girls LOVE those things.
Now I’m off to check out the KiwiCrate membership. That thing has “gift from Grandma” written ALL over it!
I think the butterfly habitat is great for kids as young as 3. My 3 year old son loved watching the caterpillars turn into butterflies this summer! I love the KiwiCrate idea. I’m definitely going to look into that this year…thanks!
My boys just said to me this morning that they want a remote control car and the Weather Pod looks very cool. With the Art projects, is there enough for 2 children? Thanks for the recommendations!
A Kindle FIRE is on MY wish list. And I think my son would love that EZRider since he can’t/won’t learn to ride a bike!!
Told all my Facebook pals: http://www.facebook.com/jennifer.w.donovan/posts/279318685442855
We have and love the butterfly habitat. They also make a ladybug one that is great. I have been researching Kindle’s as a possibility this year, so winning one would be great!
The storm chaser weather pod and stencil art book kit are great gift ideas for my toddler son and his weekly playmate, who he considers his big sister. I’m sure they would have hours of fun with this educational gadgets.
I tweeted about this post.
My 5 year old son would love the weather pod AND the EZ rider – those are great gift ideas that I wouldn’t have thought of. The kiwi crate is very cool too – I love the idea of a subscription to art and activities!
KiwiCrate Membership = awesome!! Didn’t even know such a thing existed! So perfect for my craft-aholic daughter.
Looking forward to lots of relaxing time with our families over the holidays!
My boys would love the construction toys. Of course. I love that my boys are still young enough to enjoy most of the toys on this list.
I tweeted! I forgot to mention they will love the Mario/Sonic game. Their favorite!
My kids would go crazy over the Mario & Sonic Wii game. On that note, I also love that your gift guide includes non-digital gift ideas.
I have had my eye on the little miss muffin for a while. After reading your post I am definitely going to buy one! So excited to see if she loves it as much as I think she will!
love Heritage Playset Princess Palace. My girls are so into princesses now, We just celebrated a Princess themed birthday for my 5 year old
I have never heard of KiwiCrate either. I may do that for a couple of kids on my list. My 10 year old would love the Kindle Fire. She covets her dad’s kindle and really wants an iPad, so that would be pretty cool for her.
We have used the butterfly habitat, as well, with great results.
Im intrigued by the dolls styled in France. It makes them sound so special. But I’m most impressed with the fact that their faces are cute. Usually, I find dolls to be ugly (or at the very least, unpleasant looking) except for certain baby dolls. That was a pleasant surprise.
I didn’t even know the Carole dolls were making that size now. My daughter definitely has the little miss muffin on her list. THANKS for the great reviews!!
Thanks for the guide! I bookmarked several things for my 6 yo daughter. Also, does anyone know the difference between the VTech pad and the Leap Pad?? They look so similar but the Leappad plays the Leapster games we already have, I think?? Also, LOVE the Kiwi link. I will be subscribing for sure!
I love the idea of the KiwiCrate! I have never heard of it before, I think this might go on the list for my little crafters.
I tweeted about this awesome list- Momma Mackey
I would love the weather tracker for my 7 year old daughter who is OBSESSED with the weather! Love the list of presents!
My daughter has been asking for the butterfly habitat for a while now. Hope Santa’s been listening…
the kiwi crate would be great for both my kids. 6 yo looooves crafts and my daughter is just starting to like to color and decorate things. And the CAT truck would be a sure hit!
I tweeted @smarker
My daughter is almost 2, so this is the first time she will really be able to understand the gift-giving portion of the holiday. I can’t wait to see her reactions to her presents! She would have an especially hilarious reaction to the Little Miss Muffin, I think.
I’d love to win this giveaway. There’s a great mix of girl toys and boy toys that I could share with my kids. Not to mention, I might get use out of a few of them…
Also, I just tweeted about your giveaway!
@littleblurbs
My daughter would love the butterfly kit. She is in love with insects!
I love this list. We’re not into horses, yet, here but I really like the look of the Breyer sets. We are into dolls and castles. The Corolle dolls are beautiful. I may have to think about those for birthday gifts this year. There are some really cute ballerina ones that I know my little ballerinas would love. The castle would put my two girls over the moon!
We had lots of Klutz books when I was little. I can’t wait until my girls are a little older and we can buy some!
The ideas for the younger girls are great. I have a 2 year old girl who has two older brothers, so it’s been fun looking for suggestions for her. Plus, we are getting the family a Wii this year…the Mario game will be perfect!
Great giveaway – my son would be pumped!!
This year, I’m most looking forward to RELAXING as best I can during the holidays since I almost have all my shopping done (for that very reason!)
I’m looking forward to playing with all of the kids as they are reaching the “fun” ages of play. I can only imagine the joy that could come out of these toys combined with their imaginations!
Really appreciate you sending me the gift guide and can’t wait to pass it on. And I didn’t even know there was a giveaway too- so, bonus for me. Please enter me! I had planned on getting the butterfly habitat for my 7 year old girl, but now I see several other items I have my eye on.
And here’s another entry for me: A tweet!

That butterfly habitat looks really great. I just added one to our wish list!
Wow-never saw that Wii game before! My son’s two favorite characters-Mario and Sonic. He would go grazy over that!
I am looking forward to seeing my kids open their Christmas presents this year. Each year with them getting a little older it gets a little funner earch year.

The Kiwi Crate Membership really got my attention, I love to craft with kids. You have compiled a great treasure trove here, I would be thrilled to win this prize! Thanks for the opportunity!
Thanks for a great review of some nice gifts. This year I am searching for “something different” yet likeable. My childrent and grandchildren are living with the in-laws while they build their home. So storage and other issues have to be taken into consideration. I liked the stencil art.
I’m going to have to check out the DUB Garage Set for my son…I think these would be a wonderful gift for him and my nephews…but I am also going to be checking out the KiwiCrate Membership my son is three and i think he could benifit from the membership

I’ve got four children, ages 8, 6, 4, and 1, and I see things on here that three of them would love.
The wii in our house is Daddy’s, but each child will get a wii game this Christmas, too. Would be fun to add to that collection! My 8yo asked the other day, “Mom, do you think I’m too old for dolls? There’s one I still kind of want.” Broke. My. Heart!
Great gift collection!
Thanks for the great suggestions! My youngest is 9 so I’m a little out of tune for the latest toys. I have a 4yo niece to buy for. Clueless…

I am so looking forward to not having to travel on Christmas day. For the past 7 years, we have run around on Christmas day visiting all of our families. This year we decided to stay home…the kids will love not having to pack up and go right after opening the gifts and we will all be happier I think. Oh, and my daughter is obsessed with Little miss muffin by the way. She is only 2 but she points at it everytime she sees it anywhere!

I think the CAT Motorized Bulldozer would really be a hit w/ my 2 boys. They are 4 & 1. The Kindle Fire review was great. I didn’t know the recommended age started at 13, but w/ all those features, I want one for myself!
I would love to win. We arent going to have Christmas this year because of money struggles. Thanks so much for a chance to win!!!

My boys would love all the gifts in the giveaway! Thanks for the chance!
my kids would LOVE those toys!!!!
My two daughters would love pretty much everything on the list. THe EZroller looks like it would be an especially huge hit. Thanks.
My kids would love the butterfly catcher- although I suspect that more than just butterflies would find themselves in the container. Rollie Polies don’t stand a chance in our backyard – they get turned into ‘pets’ quite often.
I’ve been eyeing up that butterfly habitat for quite some time, think my youngest would love it. And the new Mario and Sonic at the Olympics would be a hit here.

We really debated asking my parents for the Kindle Fire this year. Ultimately we ended up with a Wii (I know, we’re the last Americans to get one, haha), as I’m thinking that subsequent editions of the Fire will be a little better/improved (after reading a bunch of reviews). I know – you can say that forever about technology, can’t you?? We’re late adopters anyways – hence the Wii.
Of the other things you listed, the KiwiCrate membership sounds VERY cool!
We’ve been checking out the Happy Nappers, as my girls are big fans of Pillow Pets! What a great giveaway. This would be an awesome way to contribute to Toys 4 Tots program. <3

I am a foster parent to 5 boys. They would absolutely love all of the cars!!! They would actually love any toy. Last year they received a paper sack with fruit and a stess ball. This Christmas will be different for them.

I have a little brother who I have been searching for gifts for. The guide was VERY helpful to this process for me. Then I saw the giveaway, which included some of the things I was thinking of getting for him. Wow, this would be wonderful to see some of these gifts. I was looking at the weather item earlier, but he has lately been so interested in his Wii, that the game was looking more ideal! Oh such decisions! I like the educational value of the Butterfly habitat too! I appreciate the guide and helpful ideas for this age range. My own children are younger, so this was good to get a perspective from a Mom of this aged group!
