Did you know that only about 20% of your Facebook “fans” are seeing your updates?
Yeah. Nice, huh?
How can I tell?
People Reached
It shows you under each update what percentage of your audience was reached.

(Note the Promote option at the bottom right. Now Facebook wants you to PAY to get your updates seen by more people. Yeah. Believe it.)
It’s really frustrating for those of us who use Facebook to reach our audiences — especially those brands with products or services to sell.
And it’s a bummer for those of us who “like” a page, thinking that we are guaranteed to see that page’s updates on our timelines. But then we don’t. And we miss out on all kinds of great deals and conversations.
There are a few tricks for seeing what you want to see on Facebook. Unfortunately it takes a bit of time and effort.
If you want to make sure you are seeing all the good stuff your favorite pages post – especially mine, HA! — here is what you need to do:
Show In News Feed
Go to one of your favorite pages, and hover over the “Liked” button. When the drop down box appears, check off “show in news feed”.

Facebook Interest Lists
Then as an extra safety measure, you can create a list of your favorite Facebook pages to follow. In fact, this could be a new post in and of itself. Facebook Lists is a new feature.
You just click on that arrow beside the Message button and the drop down option will display “add to interest lists” as the first choice.

You can choose to add the page to an existing list, or Facebook will walk you through creating a new list. If it’s in a good mood. You know how temperamental Facebook can be.
Go Forth and Follow!
So of course now that you are informed, you’ll want to be sure you’ve “liked” my Facebook Page.(Right?? RIGHT??)
And then select “Show in News Feed”.
And then add it to your Favorite Pages list.
Also, Facebook seems to elevate the pages and the posts with the most interaction. So feel free to leave comments liberally.
Okay, I think that is enough shameless self promotion for one day.
Wait. One more!

Thanks for sharing this. I have no intention of paying for promotion of posts on FB, so this is good to know. I’ll share your post for sure!
I had NO idea you could do this. Thanks Jo-Lynne!
Thanks for this! I want to see more from the pages I have liked.
Thanks for this info!
Facebook has had so much power… that Mark thinks he has all the control on his users… Before it is too late, we all should be exploring other alternatives to connect. Google+ may be an option!
Thanks for the info! I wrote a post a few days ago with as many Facebook Page tips as I could figure out and I added a link to this post at the bottom. Good stuff!
Thanks Jo-Lynn, I just shared with my FB page. Good to know. Needless to say, I will not be paying FB a copper penny!
Sorry, I misspelled your name. Jo-Lynne….
I’m just about fed up with Facebook. I have over 6,000 likes on a ministry page and only 10% are getting my updates. Talk about disgusting greed, FB. I’ve started a mailing list now, so I’m more in control of reaching the people who want to hear from me.
Nice respond in return of this difficulty with
firm arguments and explaining the whole thing about that.
