Petite Photo Sessions with Kate Giovinco

It’s that time of year again! The holidays are just around the corner (hey! don’t shoot the messenger!) and I’ve already been thinking about family portraits. The last professional photo we did was a few years ago, and it’s really looking dated. Last year I wasn’t pleased at all with our holiday photo card photos, and I decided that it’s high time we get something new!

Plus, I have now officially become one of those people. I really want the dog in our family photo. I KNOW.

So when I saw this post at my friend Melissa’s blog, I immediately picked up the phone.

Kate Giovinco is a local photographer, and she’s offering Petite Photo Sessions to benefit the Get Well Gabby Foundation. 15% of all money spent will be donated to the foundation. The sessions will be held on October 21 and 22 in Phoenixville at a location soon to be announced.

I love the idea of having our next family portraits taken outside. We had that done back in ’09 with my friend Christie, and they turned out so lovely.

But the other reason I wanted to work with Kate is the Get Well Gabby Foundation is near and dear to my heart. You see, Gabby was a little girl in my daughter’s graduating class at their preschool. On the night of preschool graduation, we found out the horrifying news that Gabby had an aggressive brain tumor that was attacking her little body. Her parents lived their grief publicly on Facebook and kept our community apprised of her progress, sharing their hearts. The community rallied around them, but a few months after her diagnosis, despite their treatments and much sooner than ever expected, they lost their precious little girl.

As you can imagine, everyone who knew them and knew of their story was horrified and grief stricken. My daughter still mentions Gabby from time to time. No one who knew her could possibly be unaffected.

Because of this tragic experience, the Get Well Gabby Foundation was created to raise money for childhood brain cancer research and to assist in the care and well being of children and their families battling childhood cancer.

When Kate Giovinco heard about Gabby’s story and about the Get Well Gabby Foundation, she wanted to do something to support them and to spread awareness, so she decided to partner with them on these petite photo sessions.

If you’re local and hoping to get family photos taken before the holidays, this is a really awesome opportunity. I love how natural and easygoing Kate’s photography style is. Nothing is too posed or formal. I cannot WAIT to see how ours turn out!
