Designer collaborations are the new black, evidently. I think it’s a pretty clever idea, to partner with a famous designer to create accessible products for Target and other lower end shopping outlets. But I wonder, does the average consumer really care?
I admit, I had never heard of Missoni or Prabal Gurung before they collaborated with Target, but after visiting the Target HQ last week and hearing all the buzz, I had to check it out.
Evidently Prabal Gurung is known for his eye-popping prints and top-notch tailoring, and his collection for Target certainly has achieved the eye-popping print part of the equation. Without seeing the clothing in person, I can’t attest to the tailoring, although the details is evident even online.
Word on the street says the products are already flying off the shelves. After poking around the Target website, looking at the Prabal Gurung collection, these are the items that caught my eye that I think might be wearable for the average woman.
I love the look of these black pumps. Classy and sophisticated. Although I’d have a hard time paying $40 for a non-leather shoe. (P.S. They also come in a bright yellow.)
This red dress would be super cute on the right person (read: not me).
I love this enamel print bangle. Target is a great place to shop for inexpensive accessories that are trendy and fun.
Love, love, LOVE these yellow pointy toe flats!
And this colorblock sweater is adorable. I would buy that up in a hot second.
What do you think? Is the Prabal Gurung collection a hit or a miss??? Do you get excited about these designer collaborations?? (Click on the photos to shop!)

The only thing I would consider buying would be the colorblock sweater, and only if the material wasn’t too thin. The rest doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I’d consider the sweater. I’m not always sucked into their designer partnerships. I did, however, score a great bag following their partnership with Neiman Marcus. I got the bag for 70% off (and at least my Target had a crazy amount of stuff leftover from that deal.) I have a hard time spending a high price on clothing/accessories at Target – regardless of the label.
I love Target, maybe a little too much but can’t see myself buying much from these collections. I like the looks but usually stick to buying ” summer, run around with the kids” clothes from Target.
Ohhhh! I just ordered a pair of bright yellow Clark driving mocs this week. I HOPE they fit!! Glad to see my insticts were right on the bright colored shoe!
I was kind of meh about the whole collection. It’s just not me, and while I LOVE that red dress I know it will be way too short on my tallish figure.
While Target is one of my favorites stores I just haven’t been into their designer collections. Most of the items are too “out there” for my taste.
I thought the collection was good but not great. While the designs were nice and cheery, I felt the quality of the materials weren’t the best. But then again, what can you expect, we’re not buying his full-priced, couture designer gowns here. If you want to read my thoughts, they’re right here: http://tinyurl.com/bnukagd Honestly though, I think I’m getting tired of the collabs. I still like Missoni the best, Jason Wu maybe, wasn’t thrilled with the Neiman Marcus one either. The products were nice and all but I wonder if everything has just gotten overhyped and just feels like something’s missing if you know what I mean. Target needs to come up with something new.
I’ve never been into designer fashions…although I am picky about my professional work attire and will spend the big bucks at Express for nice fitting, high quality dress pants. I also will spend some $ on my heels, the more money I spend on heels the more comfortable they are (usually). Other then that I love shopping at Target and places like that for tops and accessories. I LOVE that red dress and would love me a pair of yellow heels! I know where my clothing budget money is going next month:)
I was (and still am) excited about this design line. I love bold colors and I do like the quality of the Nolita print skirt, Meet the Parents dress, and the Lace Up Pump. I was disappointed about the Dress with Full Skirt in Floral Crush print…that was the dress I originally wanted to get but it seemed to be designed for taller people, so in my petite height of 5’1″, even though it was the correct size, the dress seemed way too poofy on me. Overall though I thought this collab went well, especially compared to the Neiman Marcus collab. I blogged about it too: http://www.rheaetcetera.com/2013/02/a-journey-through-love-prabal-gurung.html
Have a great day!
i have to confess: i LOVE the designer collections. i racked up on the Missoni and Tracy Reese and was super excited about the Neiman Marcus holiday collaboration (can you tell i’m a little obsessed?) So YES, I’m looking forward to checking out the Prabal Gurung line – and clearly I’d better hurry
