Meet Jo-Lynne Shane

Hi, I’m Jo-Lynne. Welcome to my li’l home on the Internet! I’m a writer, runner and self-professed girly-girl. My husband says I have two speeds — stop and go. I like to say I’m the most outgoing introvert you’ll ever meet. I love a good party but I’m just as happy to stay home with my Kindle and a glass of wine.

I’ve been blogging here at Musings of a Housewife for almost 8 years. What started as an impulsive hobby has evolved into a full-time job that has provided some amazing experiences and unique opportunities, but best of all, a diverse group of friends around the globe. I adore the smart, encouraging community of women who gather here to read about my most recent antics or my latest obsession. Blogging would be meaningless without them.

A former teacher turned digital mom, I’m obsessed with social media, bacon, sauvignon blanc and skinny jeans. (And I absolutely detest the telephone.) My idea of the perfect day is an early morning run, then a few hours of aimless wandering through the mall sipping on a mocha latte (whole milk, no whip please), with a relaxing pedicure before I head home to hug my littles and whip up a delicious {gluten-free} homemade meal. I get one of those days approximately once a year, but one can always hope!

I live and work from home in the suburbs of Philadelphia with my husband of almost 18 years, three lively children (ages 7, 10 and 13) and a terribly spoiled shih ztu named Savannah.

About Musings of a Housewife

Musings of a Housewife is a personal memoir and lifestyle blog where I share wholesome recipes, information on gluten-free living, nutritious weekly meal plansfitness inspiration from a recovering couch potato, blogging advice and social media tutorials, relatable style and beauty posts for the suburban housewife, and reviews of family travel destinations.

I share many of my outfits in a weekly column I call Daily Mom Style. I don’t consider myself a fashionista by any means. Rather, I’m learning as I go, trying to stay fabulous after 40, and sharing what I learn with YOU! I hope these posts inspire you to take a little extra time for yourself and help you keep tabs on the latest styles.

I also co-host the popular Fashion Friday linky. I use these posts to share my most recent finds, great sales, and the latest trends and how to make them work for the average suburban mom.

Never an athlete, and pretty much allergic to exercise or any competitive sport, a few years ago I took up running and I am addicted! I love to hit the pavement first thing in the morning with my iPod turned up and the wind at my back. I will often write about my favorite new tunes to run to, the best workout gear, and my latest accomplishments. I know not everyone fully appreciates this newest obsession, but I hope you will be inspired to get out there and do SOMETHING that is for YOU!

As a family, we strive to live an active, healthy lifestyle, and I’m a bit passionate about eating real food although I admit that some boxes and bags sneak into my pantry — more than I’d like, but life is busy and I’m doing my best. I’m currently living about 99.5% gluten free. The .05% of the time that I cheat wrecks havoc on my delicate digestive system, but I will spare you the gory details. You are welcome.

We buy fresh and local as much as possible living in the tundra of Pennsylvania, although I’m not giving up bananas any time soon. My recipes and meal plans are among my most popular posts.

We love to travel as a family, and I record our adventures in my Travel section.

Why I Blog

Besides the fact that I have no unspoken thoughts and the incessant need to over-share, blogging has opened up many exciting doors of opportunity. One of my greatest honors was being named one of the 50 most powerful and influential women in social media by Nielsen Online in 2009. I’ve made appearances for Hebrew National, Huggies, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales and traveled as press for TJMaxx, iRobot, Chick-Fil-A, Target, CVS and Disney World.

I’m currently a brand ambassador for Udi’s Gluten Free Foods and Social Media Manager for Rose Romano’s Italian Gourmet Toppings. I write regularly for Smart Beauty Guide, my writing has been featured on and, and I’m a member of the Target Inner Circle social influencer program.

I enjoy whipping up gluten-free versions of my favorite comfort foods. My recipes have been featured in RedbookElle,Cosmopolitan and Southern Living magazines and on I’m currently writing a gluten-free breakfast and brunch cookbook for the Everything Series for Adams Media, and I recently appeared on the Dr. Oz Show to make a healthier version of our local delicacy, the Philly Cheesesteak! I will soon be writing a monthly recipe column for

My biggest claim to fame, however, is my advertorial for Olay in the October 2012 edition of Cosmopolitan Magazine! I am still pretty stoked about that!

I also facilitate our vibrant local networking group, Philly Social Media Moms, providing community, support and education for over 200 area bloggers through live events and workshops and online forums.
