Meet Jo-Lynne Shane

olay

Hi, I’m Jo-Lynne. Welcome to my li’l home on the Internet! I’m a writer, runner and self-professed girly-girl. My husband says I have two speeds — stop and go. I like to say I’m the most outgoing introvert you’ll ever meet. I love a good party but I’m just as happy to stay home with my Kindle and a glass of wine.

A few years ago, I became compelled to change our eating habits and these days I strive to feed my family as much real, whole foods as possible. We enjoy exploring the local food scene here in Philly and the places we travel. I love to keep a tab on the latest fashion and beauty trends and adapt them to my 40-something suburban mom life. And as I get older, I’m increasingly aware of my need to be active so I’m always looking for new ways to challenge myself and my fitness routine.

These themes of food, fashion, travel and fitness are woven throughout my blog. I don’t necessarily consider myself an expert in any of these areas, but I love sharing what I’m learning and getting your feedback!

What is Musings of a Housewife?

Musings of a Housewife is my personal memoir and lifestyle blog where I share my life along with healthy recipes, information on gluten-free living, nutritious weekly meal plansfitness inspiration from a recovering couch potato, reviews of family travel destinations, and relatable style and beauty posts for the modern mom.

I’ve been writing at Musings of a Housewife for over 8 years. What started as an impulsive hobby has evolved into a full-time job that has provided some amazing experiences and unique opportunities, but best of all, a diverse group of friends around the globe. I adore the smart, encouraging community of women who gather here to read about my most recent antics or my latest obsession. Blogging would be meaningless without them.

I live and work from home in the suburbs of Philadelphia with my husband of almost 18 years and our three lively children, ages 8, 11 and 14.

My Blogging Schedule

On Sundays, I co-host a weekly Real Food Recipe Roundup to help inspire and equip others to plan healthy meals for their families.

On Mondays, I often share a new-to-me recipe or an old tried-and-true favorite. All of my recipes are filed by category in my Recipe Index.

On Tuesdays, I co-host the beauty link-up Beauty Buzz with MomTrends, Mama in Heels, and Sassy Moms in the City. We share our beauty secrets, and you can enter to win fabulous beauty products.

On Wednesdays, I share my daily outfits in a weekly column I call Daily Mom Style. I don’t consider myself a fashionista per say. Rather, I’m learning as I go, trying to stay fabulous after 40, and sharing what I learn with YOU! I hope these posts inspire you to take a little extra time for yourself and help you keep tabs on the latest styles.

On Thursdays, I often share my family travel adventures or a sponsored post. Sponsored posts help offset the cost of running this site and keep everything running smoothly. I enjoy partnering with like-minded brands to bring you the latest in fashion, beauty products, tech, home and food.

On Fridays, I co-host the popular Fashion Friday linky. I use these posts to share my most recent finds, great sales, and the latest trends and how to make them work for the average suburban mom.

We love to travel as a family, and I record our adventures in my Family Travel section. I share these posts as our experiences allow.

On Saturdays, I go old school and post a memoir type of post that I call Coffee Talk. This is where I basically rattle on and share what’s going on in my life and anything on my mind that doesn’t neatly fit into a food, fitness, fashion or family travel category. I jokingly call this “Old School Blogging” because this is the way mom blogging used to be.

Why I Blog

Besides the fact that I have no unspoken thoughts and the incessant need to over-share, blogging has opened up many exciting doors of opportunity. One of my greatest honors was being named one of the 50 most powerful and influential women in social media by Nielsen Online in 2009.

I’ve made appearances for Hebrew National, Huggies, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdales and traveled as press for CAbi, TJMaxx, iRobot, Chick-Fil-A, Target, CVS, Bosch and Disney World.

I’ve worked as a brand ambassador and/or spokesperson for brands such as Udi’s Gluten Free Foods, Tanger Outlets, InStyle Magazine and Shout, and my writing has been featured on Mothering.com and BlogHer.com.

I enjoy whipping up gluten-free versions of my favorite comfort foods. My recipes have been featured in RedbookElleCosmopolitan and Southern Living magazines and on DoctorOz.com. I also write a monthly recipe column for DrOzShow.com, and I authored The Everything Gluten-Free Breakfast and Brunch Cookbook with Adams Media.

My biggest claim to fame is my advertorial for Olay in the October 2012 edition of Cosmopolitan Magazine! I am still pretty stoked about that!
