5 holiday desserts

I’m so excited to be taking part in the Target Inner Circle: Holiday Party 101 series as part of their #MyKindOfHoliday campaign! Each Target Inner Circle member is writing a blog post highlighting one aspect of holiday party planning and how to make it easy and fun. My assignment is to share some of my favorite holiday dessert recipes, which, as you know is right up my alley. I am pretty sure I have not one sweet tooth, but most likely three or four.

First I’m going to share my favorite recipe to follow a big holiday meal. Then I have a gluten-free cookie recipe that’s perfect for cookie swap parties or for bringing along to a casual holiday party. Finally I will share my three favorite candy recipes for holiday gift giving. Got it? Let’s go!

For Your Holiday Meal

Chocolate Cream Pie

Growing up, my mom was a pie baker extraordinaire, and she taught me how to make the perfect flaky pie crust a loooong time ago, before I went gluten-free and said Adiós to pie crust. One of her pie making secrets is Crisco, which of course you can pick up at Target. Every single one of her pie recipes come right from her classic Betty Crocker Cookbook, and if you use my tips you can’t go wrong. Her most popular pie is her Chocolate Cream Pie. She makes it for EVERY holiday.

Nowadays I usually make desserts that are gluten-free, because I figure if I’m going to go to the work of baking something, I want to enjoy it too! So the rest of my recipes will be gluten-free friendly, although I promise you, they do NOT compromise taste one iota!!

For A Cookie Swap

Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love a good old-fashioned cookie swap. There’s nothing better than going to a party with a single batch of cookies and coming home with 10-15 different kinds of cookies to share with the family! My favorite is this Gluten-Free Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe. What I love about this is it doesn’t use any special flours. In fact, it only has 6 ingredients, and the only one you might have to go out and buy is almond butter. The rest are just sugar, eggs, baking soda, salt and chocolate chips — which you can find anywhere, and most certainly at your neighborhood Target. You will never guess these are gluten-free.

For Homemade Candy Gifts

I love to give homemade food for gifts at holiday time, and I prefer to give candy gifts because they travel and freeze so much better than cookies. If your favorite teacher gets bombarded with 20 boxes of homemade treats on the last day of school before Christmas vacation, she can easily freeze your tin of fudge, right? These are also great for hostess gifts if you’re invited to a holiday party and you don’t want to bring the cliché  bottle of wine. And they are a nice addition to any holiday dessert table!

Here are my recipes for homemade candy gifts. These are ALWAYS a hit. Sometimes I just give one or sometimes I do an assortment. Depends on my mood!

Peanut Butter Balls

These are labor intensive, but oh-so-yummy. I have never known anyone NOT to enjoy these. Sometimes called buckeyes, peanut butter balls are exactly what the sound like — little balls of sugary peanut butter goodness, dipped in chocolate, and they absolutely melt in your mouth. Be still my heart . . .

Rocky Road Fudge

Get the Santa Ceramic Cake Stand at Target!!

This fudge recipe comes from my sister-in-law, and it is about the easiest thing in the world to make. For realz. It’s the perfect mixture of salty and sweet, and I love the blend of textures with the marshmallows and peanuts and soft chocolate fudgey goodness. When this fudge is in the house, I cannot leave it alone.

Peanut Butter Fudge

Another recipe from my sister-in-law, and another easy one. I love it because it doesn’t require any measuring of temperatures, and you don’t even have to know what “soft ball stage” means. It’s pretty much fail proof. It’s always creamy and delicious.

So there you go! That’s 5 desserts for all your party needs this holiday season!

disclosure: I was compensated for my participation in this campaign but all thoughts and opinions belong to me!
