FREE Professional Family Portraits Class!!

Have you ever wished you could take professional-quality family photos at home? I know I have. It is so expensive and stressful to have portraits taken with a professional photographer, wouldn’t it be nice to work around your own schedule and take professional-quality photos in the comfort of your own backyard?

These days, it is actually a realistic possibility. With DSLR cameras and Photoshop becoming mainstream, it’s not just professional photographers who can take good photos anymore. It just takes the willingness to learn and a little bit of practice to start taking professional-quality portraits on your own. Like this one.

I’ve seen so many friends develop into professional photographers practically overnight once they get their hands on a good camera, and I’ve always envied them. It’s been on my bucket list FOR YEARS to take a class and learn to use my camera to its fullest potential, but I didn’t know where to begin, and I really didn’t want to have to go somewhere to take a class.

Enter Craftsy. Craftsy is a website that offers online classes for all sorts of creative skills such as cake decorating, knitting, crocheting, spinning, quilting, cooking and more. You don’t even have to leave your house!!

In their FREE Professional Family Portraits Class with commercial photographer Kirk Tuck, you can learn how to bring out the best in your subjects, transform any room in your home into a portrait studio, and easily create ideal lighting indoors and out with the use of bounce flash, umbrellas and a few affordable materials such as foam core.

If you’re anything like me, the second you hear “bounce flash” and “umbrellas”, you tune out, assuming those products are only for “real” photographers.

But I’m here to tell you, when I started trying to ramp up my food photography skills for my recipe posts, my husband ordered a couple of umbrellas and set them up in our dining room, and it made all the difference in the WORLD for my food photography. Surprisingly, it was simple to implement and not even that expensive.

In Craftsy’s FREE Professional Family Portraiture class, Kirk Tuck will show you how to use these products and more for family and child portraiture. He will show you how to capture shots of energetic and impatient toddlers, shoot flattering portraits of mature subjects, and learn how to direct and pose a large group.

I cannot wait to take this class!!

Now only that, but there are sessions on post-processing to erase blemishes, soften wrinkles and modify color cast for polished images that families will be proud to display in their homes for years to come.

Look at this before/after shot!

All you need is a camera (a DSLR is best but you can use a point-and-shoot as long as it allows you to control the exposure), a tripod, an on- or off-camera flash, white foam core, a white umbrella and a few seamless backgrounds and stands.

If you’re just dipping your pinky toe into the photography waters and you don’t want to invest in much equipment right off the bat, you can take this class with just a white poster board and you’ll still get tons of great tips from the class without all the fancy equipment. Then you can add on as your needs dictate.

Think about how much money you will save over the years if you don’t need to hire a professional photographer ever again!!

With this FREE Professional Family Portrait Class, you get:

  • 4 HD video lessons with anytime, anywhere access
  • Downloadable list of Kirk’s preferred gear
  • An hour and a half of close-up instruction

I hear ya. I haven’t gotten around to it yet either, but I went ahead and signed up because it’s free and I figure I will get to it when I get to it. :-) I especially want the help with using Photoshop and Lightroom when I’m editing my outfit pictures. :-)

PS- Jo-Lynne, this is weird but I’m trying to pin this but it won’t bring up any images from the post. It only brings up your headshot and sidebar photos. Just wanted to let you know!

Oh wow! I just signed up for this too. Great concept and I totally need it. Can you share what umbrellas you ordered? My photographer friend said I needed the same thing. I also need to purchase a light kit. Or maybe I need to move to a new house with more natural light! :)
