The Best Laid Plans… #CoffeeTalk

Yesterday I had an appointment at the elementary school so I got it in my head that I’d stop into my favorite cupcake shop and get a dozen cupcakes to take to the staff and teachers at school. I envisioned passing them out to the office staff, dropping in to meet the new nurse and offering her one and having enough left for my daughters’ teachers.

I picked up the cupcakes on my way back from dropping the girls at school, all gorgeous as usual, and left them on the front seat of my car as I went back into my house to work for an hour before I had to go to the appointment.

As I was tapping away at my keyboard, I noted that the appointment was actually later than I thought. (Typical me, I never seem to get the right time in my head, good thing I checked or I’d been there an hour early — which, in retrospect, wouldn’t have been so bad, but anyway.)

It did actually occur to me that I had cupcakes sitting in the car, but it was a cool day and they weren’t in the sun. I kept working.

When I went out to my car at 11:30 to go to the school, I was horrified to find that the sun had turned so it was blazing right down on my prized cupcakes and they looked like this:

The frosting was sliding off the cupcakes — the pumpkin ones were by far the worst for the wear — but they were all so soft that I knew I couldn’t take them in and pass them out.

Jo-Lynne the Airhead strikes again!

I. Give. Up.

See, this is why I don’t do nice things. It just never works out!!

Well, my kids certainly were not disappointed to hear about my mishap so all’s well that ends well, I suppose. Nothing was wasted, I assure you. I will try to do my good deed for the teachers another day.

So I found the Miracle Gel…

Broccoli Cheddar Egg Cups #RealFoodRecipes

I love eggs in any way, shape or form. They’re actually quite nutritious, no matter what the health police might want you to believe. See my post, The Incredible Edible Egg for more info on why you should feel free to eat eggs every day if you want! I love quiche and frittata, but sometimes…

It’s Day 17 of The 21-Day Sugar Detox and I suppose it’s still going. I’m definitely not sticking to the program quite as religiously as I’d planned, but I’m definitely not giving up either. Truth be told, I’m kind of frustrated with myself. I keep making exceptions . . . only with things I know I will be fine…

Fashion Over 40 | Daily Mom Style 09.02.14

Ah, September, how fickle you are. After a very mild (actually, downright cool) August, summer is back with a vengeance now that it’s September. It feels odd sending the kids back to school in 92-degrees, but these are the cards we’ve been dealt. I’m definitely enjoying the new school day routine. I was up super…

Don’t Pack Those White Jeans Away!

camel and white jeans

The “no white after Labor Day” rule is no more, and today we can feel free to rock the white well into the cooler months. Personally I love this trend. Wearing white jeans after Labor Day is a great way to look modern and hip without having to buy anything new. Of course, there are a…

Good morning, and happy Labor Day! I hope everyone gets to relax today. I’ll be going through our closets and weeding out the outgrown and summeriest of the summer clothes. I always do this on Labor Day weekend. I hate having things cluttering up our closets that we aren’t currently wearing. I hope to get everyone’s rooms…

Baking Gluten-Free with Krusteaz

Partnering with awesome brands is one of the fun perks of having a blog, and I was super excited when Krusteaz reached out to me about joining their team of brand ambassadors. I’m really going Old School today. I’m posting a meme. Whooooooo! Come on. Some enthusiasm would be nice. Fake it if you have to. There you go. That’s better.
