Welcome to the Real Food Recipe Roundup, a collaboration between Musings of a Housewife and Sassy Moms in the City! Alison and I are both passionate about feeding our families real food so we’ve partnered up to share our weekly meal plans, and we would love for you to join us!
I think I’ve begun to settle into summer this week. It didn’t seem nearly as hectic as last week. Of course, it helped that one of my kids was in camp from 9 to 4. That relieves a lot of stress right there. Then I only have TWO couch potatoes to contend with. Ha!
AND, more importantly, baseball season is FINALLY OVER. Hallelujah. I feel like I can actually get back to having normal dinnertimes now, rather than trying to feed my family dinner at 4PM.
As I’m planning my meals for this upcoming week, I realized I have plans to dine out twice plus my birthday (I don’t cook on my birthday) and a holiday (Happy Independence Day!) so it’s going to be an odd week, meal planning wise. Even though I may not be doing a lot of cooking this week, I’ll give you some recommendations for recipes you might want to try.

MONDAY: I’m going out to dinner with a friend, but may I suggest this Roast Turkey in a Crock Pot via Walking On Sunshine? I cannot WAIT to try this! I think it would make a lovely “Thanksgiving in July” dinner alongside Ina’s Dill Fingerling Potatoes and my Tuscan Onion & Tomato Salad
TUESDAY: It’s my birthday! WOO! I have no intention of cooking, even though my birthday dinner is the following night (and I have no idea why; my husband just told me to save the date, and after 18 years of marriage I know better than to ask questions, can I get an amen?) But you may want to try this gluten-free Pesto Chicken Parmesan from Gluten Free Mom To Be. It looks delish. Serve it with GF pasta (or regular if that’s good with you) and maybe a salad. YUM. And while you’re at it, you might want to try your hand at her GF swirled blackberry cheesecake? I have printed out both recipes and hope to try them soon!
WEDNESDAY: I’m going out to dinner. WOO! But if you’re eating in, how about whipping up Sandi’s grain-free hamburgers? I love hamburgers in the summertime, and these sound amazing. I bet they’d be great alongside these Honey Balsamic Carrots from Best of Long Island.
THURSDAY: As far as I know, we will be eating at home and I’m thinking I might make this Red Wine Marinated Flank Steak. It’s great with mashed potatoes and fresh green beans sautéed with scallions. (I made these yesterday for lunch with green beans from my CSA and it was delish. I can’t believe I’ve never tried that before!)
FRIDAY: The Fourth of July!!! We aren’t planning anything exciting. One of my kids will be away at overnight camp, and the rest of us will likely hang out at home and listen to the fireworks in the distance. It’s not July 4th without a cookout so I expect we will fire up the grill and throw on some sausages (we like to get these from our local butcher.) Perhaps I’ll get ambitious and make deviled eggs and potato salad.
